Its not that there are zombies out there it just that the CDC has done studies and they have shown that people are more likely to put together a simple disaster kit with the threat of zombies. If you notice all the things in the kit could be used for tornadoes, earthquakes, or just about any kind of disaster. It's just a stunt to get people to get off their ass and prepare for a real disaster.

I think it was stupid of them to use zombies as an example because now people will believe that zombies are real.
