It was the one thing about the film that strained credulity!

Of course, if they'd picked anyone else, her choice of Clive Owen would have made sense.

Honestly though, it is one of his best roles. On paper, the character has no depth. Rickman makes him a tragic, sad man who is enormously in love with his wife. That love comes across in the acting, and not in the script.
