First time I saw Tom Jones was way back in 1968 at the Flamingo in Vegas with my family. I was 14. We knew of him from "It's Not Unusual" and "What's New Pussycat" but after the show we all walked out and we were never the same. Loved him ever since and saw him many times in LV after that like the video above.. Those very early days in Vegas were the best.

I saw this telecast and spent years trying to find the recording...had to eventually settle for LTD recording which sounded really thin and unimpressive next to the booming Jones voice and that cranking orchestra....he smoked LTD on this song!

This song was not recorded comercially by Tom (I think), but he sang it throughout 1978. This performance is at Caesars, from a special called Cinderella at the palace - featuring various acts from the hotel (Sinatra's show was filmed, but not used, and was recently released on dvd).

There's not many white singers that could pull that off. He does a really good job of it, he's an excellent performer and has a great voice. He plays so well to the female audience that it sometimes looks corny, but that's entertainment!
