I think I stayed in that exact Day's Inn - for that exact $52 - the first time Delta stranded me in Atlanta on my way to New Orleans, back in 2007, apparently because it was raining in Albany and this affected the Boston to Atlanta leg through mysterious magic that allowed Delta to claim weather made my missing my connection not their fault.
Honestly, it wasn't worth it. By the time we got to the crappy hotel, I was starving, but all there was was a vending machine. My dinner that night was a few wrapped pastry strudel thingies that I got with my last dollar bills. I got maybe 4 hours of sleep (and yes, a shower, which given I had to put back on my previous days' clothes wasn't worth the $52), before I had to meet the free shuttle that doesn't run that often early enough to get to the airport for my rescheduled flight.
Oh, and the best part of it all? I made friends with a couple who were both stranded, while waiting ages for the shuttle to the hotel. You'd think with two people, and Delta being willing to pay half the cost of a room, that two people sharing would get their room free, right? Nope. Delta was willing to give them two rooms at $52 each, with Delta then paying the hotel $52 for each of them, but not one room for free.
The second time I flew to NOLA on Delta, I purposely booked an earlier set of flights than I needed or even really wanted. Again there was "rain in Albany" and again I missed my connection. I was lucky, and this time I was prepared and got one of the last spots on the last flight out that night. Which was nice, given that I needed to be at a conference workshop first thing in the morning.
The third time I went to NOLA? I flew JetBlue. And I have't flown Delta, ever again, and doubt I ever will
Here in the Twin Cities we were stuck with Northwest. Now that Delta swollowed up NWA we are stuck with them instead. Delta has already cut all of the flights out of my feeder airport, so now I have no connecting flights and I'm STILL stuck with crappy service.
Thankfully, Southwest is moving in, and Sun Country has a presence here (albeit very limited).
I'm tired of all these airlines getting bailouts. Time to kick them to the curb.
Now, I'M not going to fly Delta anymore either!!! Thanks for the warning Tara! Actually, my husband had a bad experience with Delta, this past Christmas. Good-bye Delta!!
Nice video and I agree - Delta has items they need to address and fix.

If you are flying to NOLA from NY, Jet Blue is the way to go. I have planned biz trips thru JFK just to book end them with Jet Blue.

In the end we vote with our wallets... I stopped flying AC for the same reasons and dumped my Southwest stock recently.

That would be "swallowed up NWA" and NOT "swollowed." ;-)

It's time to end the cycle of abuse! You are out of Delta's league. It's their loss! ;)
