  • The one,the only,the original... late 1970s-early '80s"Battlestar Galactica"

  • I watched the Premiere of the Original Battlestar Galactica in September 1978. Was that really 33 Years ago ! I recall it was on at 7 pm against the Premiere of Dumbo. We had a battle against what channel to watch ! I lost. I watched the first 45 Min of Dumbo then switched to Galactica. First scene I saw was the scene with the Green lighting in the Freighter. Then it was Cut into by either Football or a News Program. Galactica got pushed on that Night. The Saga Began for me that Sunday Night.

  • the new series should have been called 'mumble-star galactica'

  • its a very strange feeling that such a great show spawned off...of this lol

  • So....why did I have to watch that again?

  • I can't wait for the new movie based on the original and only Battlestar Galactica.

  • @quacksacker

New movie? Based on the original Battlestar Galactica? When is this expected to open?

  • I always loved the smart-ass cylon centurions 0:18 "apparently it was not as big a surprise as we had hoped for"

  • This was state of the art of its time. The first movie had the same budget as the original Star Wars. I love this because, unlike the new BG, it showed how real solders behave during time of war. They show respect for family and rank. But most of all they don't waste their time moping around complaining about the enemy, relation ships and politics. Ask any soldier and they would tell you they laugh, play games, drink and joke. If they did not they would all go mad.

  • Dude - I'm 18 and I reckon this stuff is pretty fricken good, Especially when you consider the primitive special effects and primitive bluescreen technology of the time.

New BSG is too fast for my liking, the classic BSG is something you can sit down a relax and enjoy watching - however the slower pace does occasionally annoy me in some rare instances when it slows to a crawl.

  • Personally I think its unfair to compare the two. The original is a classic Space Opera, a swashbuckling adventure with a wide age range on their audience. And I love the sci-fi retro element.

As for the new series being too fast. Well thats a matter of opinion, what I see in the series is more human elements. Death, life, characters with shifting moral cores and almost real consequences to actions.

For me, I sort of prefer the new series, nothing personal but I found the new series more real.

  • For the time, it was revolutionary what was produced. It wouldn't make sense to say the original Star Trek sucked because of the special effects. At that time, what was done was pretty high-tech and some of the story line is good. I enjoyed a lot, then. Also, not everyone who is 19 think it's bad. The guy below you is 18 and liked it.

  • you absolutely dont need to be 'some old guy' to figure out that this laughable pseudo high-tech remake sucks ;)

in the old series you had characters you could identify with, they were believable. the wise commander adama, the daring legend cain, the cowboy starbuck. and what have they done to it? a drunk is second in command on a capital military ship, for the youporn generation weve got a lesbian commanding battlestar pegasus and milksop baltar is making out with his hallucination -oh come on!

  • RAMMER?!? LOFL

  • I wish someone would release a high budget sci-fi using models like they did in the old days instead of using CGI frikken everything

  • They should redo the special effects of this BSG like they did with the original Star Trek shows.

  • I disagree, They should redo SOME of the effects in the show. Particularly the scenes where the vipers are flying against the out of focus landscape - you know, the stuff that wouldn't have even passed back in 1978.

Never assume that CGI remastering is good, sometimes it doesn't fit in visually and it often destroys the "nostalgia value" of the show.

  • I love the scene of Apollo and Starbuck pulling up their Vipers in high speed to escape the explosion of the Cylon baseship.

  • Now that is what a cylon is supposed to look like!

Brings back memories of a much easier time.. gawd, do I miss the 70's

  • Those we're the 70s!

  • The show was pretty good as '70's space opera went. It wasn't doing bad in the ratings, but was extremely expensive to produce which is what did it in. Had today's technology which allows relatively inexpensive visual effect been around then, it probably would have lasted a few season.

  • So to save money use cheap CGI effects, use donated uniforms from Babylon 5, every planet will look like Canada.....umm no thank you

  • There's good CGI that is a lot less expensive than motion control, and then there is "cheap" CGI. I was speaking of the former.

  • I wonder if those Cylons are evolved versions of Kit the talking car. ha

  • Considering that BSG the original series was in 1979, and Knight Rider didn't appear until the mid-80's, I would think it was the reverse.

In fact, KITT's scanner was based on the scanners from the Cylon Centurions.

  • Now this is REAL BSG!!Awesome.

  • Fantastic clip, I haven't seen that scene in years.

  • How come we never saw action like this in the remake? The original is still the best.

  • Lol the old base star sucked.

  • By the way,the guy doing the Cylon talking is actor Michael Santiago.

  • The only reason the new bsg looks good is because of technology, and the excellent cgi. Like star wars...the original suked...that is why they have remastered it so many times to keep up...but even it is old.

At least the original aired at 7.30...not 10.Given the technology for the day, it was great and was more a family orientated show which as a kid was fantastic. The new bsg is way to dramatic and the storyline is way to warped and sometimes confusing.

  • new bsg is great, old bsg is crap... maybe it was good 30 years ago, maybe you still remember when you were kids, but its horrible to see in 2008

  • MORE OLD SCHOOL BSG ON YOUTUBE!!!!

I wish they'd just have named the new version something else!

  • Great movie, I like the end of the original series

  • My favorite ep was always the last one In The Hand Of God...mostly because I always loved to hear the Cylon's voice and that's the ep where they seem to talk the most.

  • My favorite episodes. The movie,Gun of Ice Planet Zero,The Living Legend,Fire in Space,Hand of God ,Lost Planets of the Gods,War of the Gods, and The Long Patrol. Ice Planet Zero and Living Legend are my favorites.

  • I'm glad, that Someone included, this Footage,it reminds me,when I was a Kid. It would be awesome to see more Footage of the Base Star or when Pegasus took on a Base Star or Two.

  • The New Series is a flop.

The dvd sales on Amazon, Indigo are reduced 60% already, now they're even offering FREE shipping for New series(not old).

On Ebay, tons of people are selling their New Series, but not the Original.

I used to be a feminist before most of you were born, but seriously, women more masculine than men, better at everything than men, it's so tiresome and we straight gals aren't attracted to that sorry.

I never thought I'd see the day when NONE of my kids watched a BSG.

  • I am still a fan of the original and I like the trailer made by Richard Hatch Battlestar Galactica The Second Coming.Had Glen Larson and the production team been given the time and money to make the series the show would had killed Star Wars.Larson's Cylons would definetly give the Empire a good fight in a space war.Gun of Ice Planet Zero and The Living Legend are my favorites.

  • "Apparently it was not as big as a surprise as we had hoped for." LOL Who knew a Cylon could do sarcasm LOL

  • I loved the sound of the base star.

  • I'm one who likes both the old and the new BG.The old is a childhood favorite plus I've always loved the robotic Cylons with their voice. But the new one is very good and fun to watch.

  • I loved the old series as well as the present one. The original Cylons had the coolest voices ever.

  • It's hard ta find the old stuff on TouTube. You have te realy dig for it. I like the old school stuff better.

    It's cheezy but still good.

    BTY thanks ironictoo

  • You can always buy the old series like I did...

  • Thank you for posting this. It was nice to see and HEAR the real cylons. On the original series, even with sticks and stones they made a great show that got tons of fans. I just wish they re-introduced the original cylons, at least one, with a good story so we could hear that distorted voice so peculiar. I bet they would increase their fans and followers.

  • they have, and they will even further in Caprica

  • They brought back the original tin-can cylons for Razor, the straight-to-DVD movie released between seasons 3 and 4.

  • Thank you barcode, I've already bought the movie, but still I think they should get a REGULAR CYLON

  • They, they totally disregarded their old school fans with the new show.

Why didn't they just call it something else ?

  • they borrowed nothing from no one

  • i heard that the toster cylons want to kill off the human hybred cylons.

  • That would be nice.

  • Can't we all just get along?

  • no way canuk old pal the tin heads want to wipe us out as a race and level toronto as a car park and they want to ban beer at ice hockey matches.

  • i heard they also want to raise taxes by 12%

    NAZI ROBOTS!

  • I am still a fan of the original. Now that the Knight Rider movie was a smash hit in the ratings and the fans want a new series,I would like to see Glen Larson come back and run Galactica.Hey Ron Moore, you're fired.

  • 1) is this from the original mini-series?

    2) if so, is the shot of the basestar firing new?

    3) why should fans of the new Galactica 'have to watch this'?

  • The scene is in both the three hour ABC-TV movie and the theatre version.

  • I must reiterate my thrid question. Why should new BSG fans HAVE to watch this? Is this supposed to somehow convert us, show us the error of our ways?

  • I watched the original BSG as a kid and now appreciate the new one much better. The series has matured along with us. But clips like this bring back the good old days and just kinda warm your heart...

  • Then why come here??????

  • Corny... the planet just exploded... I think the new Battlestar Galactica series are much better.

  • Second that. The people who like this are just having trouble accepting they're all in their 40's - 60's. BOTH SERIES ROCKED. It's just like Mac PC haters. They luv their Mac's and hate PCS. As a PC user that attitude annoys me. I see the utility of both. I.e. I'm level headed. Basically Mac haters, peeps who just like dogs/or cats and hate the other, and BSG TOS haters of the new series all lump in to the same type of person: SHALLOW, SIMPLE, ELITIST, MONOLITHIC, ARFTARDS!

  • I really miss the old cylons. It was great to see them in Razor.

  • it was funny as fuck if you ask me...

  • I was indeed blown away by the scene.I especially love the part where Apollo and Starbuck pulled up the Vipers to escape the explosion.Hey Universal Studios, shame on you for how you treated Glen Larson who created Galactica which could had been Star Wars worse enemy.

  • Hilarious!

  • I am a fan of the original Galactica.I understand what went wrong in the making of the series. Here is an interesting question to ask.If the Cylons in the original Galactica and Darth Vader's empire were to fight it out in a war,who will win?

  • No contest. TIE fighters would outrun Cylon raiders. Unlike Imperial Death Stars,Cylon Base Stars can't blow up planets. An Imperial storm trooper would blow a Cylon warrior's face off before he had time to draw his sword. And I've never seen the Cylon Emperor use mind power to choke a subordinate when he got out of line....

  • hhahahah the planet exploded hahahhahaa

    awesome? i think lolololol

  • how the fuck do i get this movie?

  • Thats Cool!!!!

  • The only reason that the new BSG will not be granted it's authenticity is because back then we had an eminent cold-war threat that our human existence. The Soviets had plotted their nuclear targets on every major city in the US. Today, we don't have a Soviet threat. I hope that clears it up for everyone.

  • that threat is still thier

  • If you want to get a good idea how "cutting edge" the effects of the 1978 Galactica were at the time, compare it to any episode of Space:1999 or classic Star Trek, both of which were produced just 5-10 years earlier.

  • Thanks a lot for showing this.I think they made a good job in he old series but the new one is better,it rocks!!!

  • I have seen all of the old BSG but I think the new is better

  • Great ending! There's just no comparring the two shows. In this one the Colonials are the good guys.

  • i looove new bsg but thanks for showing me what old one was like

  • War sucks. Old BSG looks hilariously cartoony compared to new one. But I guess at that time it was cutting edge.

  • The beauty of OS BSG is Adama and Apollo made clear the reasons for war, and they're the same reasons for the present war. If everyone were to watch the OS Pilot they'ed understand our present war. It was one of the last shows that made sense of such. Hollywoods way lost now.

I love how Hollywood glamorizes war with cinematography then talks about how much they hate war on Oprah. Go to the video store. Every actor opposed to guns and war has a gun in their hand on a video cover.

  • Exactly -- if we learned anything in WWII, it's that you can't negociate with guys in buffed chrome suits.

  • Looove the Original, it's so much better than the new Version!!!!

  • Are You Kidding?
