  • i have a misfire in the fourth cylinder in my 98 k1500 ext cab chevy 350 5.7 180k miles i have changed the plugs wires cap looking to solve the problems it vibrates alot at idle and if i have lights on for a very very short time hard to start any ideas on what could be the problem? i think it could be the spider injector but not sure .... also some liquid coming from the exhaust with white smoke

  • @stoner1993able often spider injector assemblies, that plastic crap stinks. But, first, do my video test "how to find out if you head gasket is blown" cause white smoke can be that, the test will tell for sure.

  • Scotty; What kind of experience do you have with the 3.2 yamaha engine in the ford taurus, I am looking to possibly buy a 93 with 100,000 miles. The engine has been recently tuned to get rid of a miss on the #4 cylinder, plugs and wires, which is not firing at all. I'm thinking of taking a chance on buying it thinking it's the fuel injector. Is it very probable that is is something more complicated such as internal problems?

  • @MegaFlaxman DO not buy it, those engines are throw away. Lots of horsepower, but they fall apart with age and cost a ton to repair.

  • You might want to add when replacing fuel injectors that you need to clean the area around the fuel rail before taking it out so not to get dirt in the intake. Also when installing you need to put a small amount of lithium grease on the NEW o-rings of the injectors so they tear and cause leaks. I am a mechanic and this is a good video but leaves a lot of important information out. Sorry

  • Hey is it easy to check/clean/replace an IAC valve on a 1991 miata?

  • @DonutMan181 no super easy, but doable, it's on the throttle assembly.

  • @scottykilmer just out of curiosity, do you have a video of doing a job like that? just so I can get an idea of what it is I'm getting into?

  • @DonutMan181 watch my video "how to fix a car that idles poorly"

  • great vid...

  • Hi,

can fuel injectors be replaced easily on a Mercedes from the mid 80ties?

  • @w124250d1992 not really, nothing is easy to replace on most mercedes.

  • UP UP

  • you look like marilyn mason's grandad

  • @B2sick Man, if you're going to comment, at least spell manson correctly. And try a little harder next time, I assume you don't make a living doing jokes.

  • @B2sick Very nice!!!

  • YOUR the man . very good videos .

  • where would yo be able to get that tool in the u.k

  • @cheshuntcharlie just google waekon EFI tester.

  • @stavrosplaskas well, bleed the air out. If it's a mechanical system diesel, crack the lines ones at a time at the injectors on the engine. If it's electronic, it will bleed itself out just by driving though

  • Comment removed

  • @scottykilmer thanks so much for the reply much apreciated your videos have have helped me alot and saved me alot of money ...im a little nervous to crack the lines open as the system is under 60psi compresion......stavros [england uk}

  • Scotty, I have a Honda Del Sol Si with a D16z6 engine. Is pretty much stock, only has an intake. As you may now, it is a 1.6 liter, which is suppose to have good fuel economy but my car has really bad fuel economy! What things can be causing that problem?

  • @hondannyboy number one is weak injectors, but before replacing em , try my video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car" and have that done.

  • why are japanese cars built for easy maintenance... but then you only need to maintenance them half as much as domestic cars?

  • @baboracus some are, some aren't. I've seen some jap cars be mothers to just change the spark plugs on V6 engines.

  • hey scotty, can you help me diagnose my 1993 mazda mx6. i have 2 videos of its activity on my page. please help.

  • hey scotty i need some help figuring out whats wrong with my honda it sounds like the spark plus wires are hitting on all of them at idle but when i try to take off it dies down and there is no fire in cylinder too please watch this video and let me know what you think it could be

  • the video is on my page it wont let me post it on here

  • @MrJonmexican001 no fire in cylinder two is often a bad coil wire, try that first and pray it's not a bad computer.

  • @scottykilmer i cleaned the fuel injectors and they had some corosion on them and i replaced the filter in the top of the fuel injetor, and had gotten a fuel module regulator it was like 7 bucks at pullapart and it was 67 at orielys it works amazing now thanks though

  • Loving the honda civic EJ9

  • Hey scotty how do you bleed air from diesel injectors is the best way to crack off the injector pipe or from the diesel fuel filter thanks.

  • @wicked2631 on older mechanical diesel injectors, you crack each one at a time, and crank the engine to get the air out. On modern electronic ones they bleed themselves.

  • would it work on a coil pack? such as coil on plug?

  • @MustanGT2003 No, but the company, waekon, also makes a COP tester that looks a little different than this,

  • @scottykilmer is it hard to change injectors on a vw passat 1.9 tdi 2000

  • How does this tell if a injector is bad , if all it does is listen to the solenoid of the injector opening and closing. What if the wiring or pcm is bad and causing intermittent voltage? The injector would appear to be misfiring according to the probe and it would result in a wrong diagnosis.

  • @sranjesuper apart from that, it is a great tool to see if you have a spark or fuel problem

  • @sranjesuper It is one way of testing an injector. OF COURSE it can't check everything in such a complex system. You'd need a pro mechanic and a lot of experience to do that. It's a quick check method to pinpoint problem areas.

  • @scottykilmer Well you could use a NOID light together with the injector probe. You stick the noid light in the injector connector and run the engine and it will light up when it gets a signal to the inejctor if everything from the pcm to the connector is good. If it lights up, and the injector probe says injector body has malfunction, then you know for SURE it is the injector and not the wiring inbetween. Together they are very efficient.

  • Save money...extra long screwdriver, put to injector, put to ear, listen to clicks.

  • @Mlwtca sure, but no way as accurate a measure as this device.

  • Ive used one of these... Injector on my sr20det is stuck open... it was intermittent so the things on its way out.... today i tested it and cyl 3 no go thre was maybee 2 pulsess in 2 minute run time...............Injectors are only a year old too :( half my luck.

  • Scotty i need your help i have a 1989 lincoln town car and the heat use to work and now all it does is blow cold air when it should be blowing heat the temperture gauges on my car don't go in the middle it stayc a little under the half way mark which i think is good but i don;t know why the heat quit blowing hot thanks for your time as always john malicek???????

  • ive just been gradually accelerating to get me around town. car works fine but you wont see me trying to beat a yellow light. my trucks a choker haha

  • @fiverrgigler no i have not had the time to fixed it yet. I tried to put some techron and some lucas it runs the same. when i have a chance ill check them and the plugs. what about you have you fixed it ? what have you tried already to try to fix the problem?

  • @jxroq of course check the fuel pump pressure AFTER changing the filter, a weak pump can do that too. And try my video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car" and pay a mechanic to do that.

  • I’ve got a 1991 Nissan Maxima with fuel injector problems is it similar to the Honda?

  • @Roushfan5 yes

  • @Roushfan5 depending on what bank the injector is located is not that simple. If you are not mechanically inclined take it to your local shop.

  • hey scotty nice video steve o here keep them coming

  • I CAN DETECT DEFECTIVE INJECTORS WITH A STETHOSCOPE ALMOST I AN INSTANT.

  • @007bondspy yea or just a long screw driver...very simple

  • I have a 92 dodge dakota 4x2 with a v6. My truck cranks but wont start. So i changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, ignition coil, and timing chain. I am getting fuel to the rail on the engine but I dont seem to be getting any fuel to the spark plugs, could my injectors be bad

  • nice video..ill look for one of those tomorrow..

question my s10 slows down and feels like its choking or flooding when i try to put the pedal down. i have to gradually accelerate i can never put the pedal to the metal so to speak. and i have the same problems when i need to accelerate up hills. someone told me it could be fuel injectors, running lean, or bad gass. what do you think? thank you

  • @jxroq that and much more, often a bad fuel pump, but change the fuel filter first, could just be that.

  • @jxroq we have the same problem. I once stuck up on the bridge when I tried to accelerate. Did you able fix the problem? Please share how you fix it. Thank you.

  • Is injector timing controlled by Camshaft pos.sensor signal such that if cam & crankshaft are out of sync, would only inject when valves are open, yet out of time w/intake stroke, or are they controlled by crankshaft pos. sens.,such that they would inject on the proper stroke, yet out of time with valves opening, & if the latter is as such, would fuel then not be making it's way into the cylinder, but instead leak into crankcase?(Oil smells gassy, black exhaust, but fuel pressure good.)Bad rings?

  • @51MontyPython probably worn rings. scotty

  • Hey, Scotty. So if an injector solenoid isn't clicking on and off properly, or is firing intermittently, does that mean it is dirty, or is it purely electrical? In other words, Could it be clicking ( and therefore pass the electronic test) yet still not actually be delivering due to clogs?

  • @51MontyPython if it was clogged it would also fire poorly in most cases. Scotty

  • Lovely soft hands for a guy with 42 years experience.

  • where the heck u get these cool little tools from.

  • @xxdarkheartsxx just google "waekon EFI tester". Scotty

  • a nice video ,,, thns

  • hi scotty my car nissan altima 2003 hv starting problem in cold temp. it starts but sometimes engine shakes voilently may be kinda misfiring. After about 15 mins when i turn off engine and turn on again it starts like as it didnt hv any problem before. Can u plz tell me wht could be the problem and how i can get rid of?

  • @RabbiCAN often a bad temp sensor for the computer. try changing that first, place like auto zone sell em and print you a picture of where it's located. Scotty

  • IS THAT COMMERCIAL for the new TOOL ? come on

  • @midosoft2005 you can't fix cars without tools, with bare hands I can't fix much of anything . Get Real, Scotty

  • @midosoft2005 Wow if you only knew how easy things are with technology Besides he is not holding a gun to your head to buy the tool instead he is telling you ( for free) how to save time and money, tools make life easier for smart people.

  • Might not be worth it for some smaller cars given the fact that the probe is $100 bucks and a set of four injectors from a warehouse costs about $100 - $120 bucks. By the time you've figured out that you actually do need fuel injectors you've spent twice the amount. Certainly worth it for 6 and 8 cyl engines though.

  • @coasterpro love to see where you get injectors that cheap. Most new ones are 100-165 bucks apiece around here. Now rebuilt ones are somewhat cheaper, but often don't work. Scotty

  • where do you get the efi probe

  • @slyrader1 just google "waekon EFI probe" Scotty

  • i dont even have to use a uv dye i can easly see it at the ends where the little holes where the fuel comes out of its in that small circal at the end of the injector i thank thay are leaking inside so ill just buy 500 dollars worth of injectors 6 for 80 dollars each bwd make and life time warrenty iem glad iem doing the work myself or else it would cost me over 1,200 for a grage to do it and thay are brand new but ill still check for leakes better than haveing a bad enigine as result

  • opps sorry i was not very detalied at explaining its the ends where the fuel comes out of the little holes in the tip of the injector that is seeping where the fuel sprays out of the oring seals themself where it seal againts the manifold but the tip of the injector itself i have a feeling the injectors themself are not sealing inside like the moveing metal pice called a plunger or something is not sealing compleatley causeing seeping and squrting fuel and not closeing all the way

  • @stingray300m then replace the injectors if you feel they are leaking from the inside. Me, i'd put UV dye in the gas tank to make sure that was the leak area. Scotty

  • hey scotty i just bought 6 fuel injectors for a 97 grand am gt 3100 vin m and thay seep like a drop every 3 hours thay leak a little bit because i pressured them at 40+psi on the fuel rail and when you fire them thay dont always seal compleatley because i tested them with 6 volts and thats whats happing any advice

  • @stingray300m take it back apart and put ALL new seals on the injectors, they often get broken when installing, lube em with gasoline first. Scotty

  • what do you call this tool? i am trying to find where i could find this tool without having to necessarily buy this brand.

  • @gmarte12 just google waekon EFI fuel injector tester. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

thanks! just found out that it is out of my budget

  • You should wear a helmet when riding a bike (set a good example for the kids)

  • @lophilip I'm in Texas, land of the free. and they are just photo shoots after all. Scotty

  • ay scotty where would i get that tool? who much does the price range be?

  • @niggadunwatchedthis Just google "Waekon EFI probe" and go for the lowest price. Scotty

  • Rock Steward xD

  • And how easy would it be to change them on an 1987 ford turbo thunderbird?

  • @mspertybird harder than this, but not too hard. Scotty

  • On the gas question (shell chevron ect) what about 711s gas?

  • @mspertybird You never know where they buy it, so who knows? Scotty

  • anyone know if changing injectors on a tacoma is easy? this is cool...

  • but my honda doesnt have a fuel injection rail, and idk where it is

  • @TDawg277 If it's a really old honda, it would have throttle body injection with one injector in the throttle opening. Scotty

  • I wanna bring my cars to you

  • @paginipro feel free if you're in the houston area, but I did have a guy drive here once all the way from New Orleans. Scotty

  • Hey scotty, does it really matter what kind of gasoline you use (chevron, shell, fastrip) ive heard that cheap fuel clogs your fuel injectors and engine and that fuels like chevron clean it. Is it true or just a scam?

  • @luis3826 All fuels work fine is they are from reputable stations, it's more the tanks you worry about, old ones rust and mess up the gas stored in them. Scotty

  • That wont tell if the injector is clogged. It will still tick and the stupid little tester will flash.

  • @wholesaledirectent NO test will check all problems in anything. For that problem, I use an ultrasonic marksman listening device for the clicks. A clogged injector will not click as loud as a good one. Lots of tools out there to use. Scotty

  • Funny much.

  • scotty, where is the fuelpump cut off switch on a 98 dodge stratus?thanks.

  • @brandonb175 If it has one, it's in the trunk. Get your VIN number and call a dealer, they can tell you if it has one. Scotty

  • Thanks, your doing a good thing by helping gen Y service their own cars like their dad's did before them.

  • Where do I get one of those?

  • @nanaispineapple just google Waekon EFI tester. Scotty

  • can you flash your ECU to accept turbo conversion+bigger injectors ? ( fitting my Naturaly aspirated car with maf sensor ) or does the ecu needs to be replaced ? and thank you for your time

  • @faisalabulaziz1 depends on the make, model, and year. Newer vehicles can be reflashed, but of course you'd need the actual software, and that's hard to come by for modifications. Scotty

  • Hey Scotty how can I check my fuel injectors on my 87 chevy silverado? It's a c10

  • @72galaxie500car if they are hidden deep inside the engine, you really can't test them without a many thousands of dollars expensive computer set up made to test them on the vehicle. If you can reach em, use this tool. Scotty

  • Scotty how can check my mechanical injectors on a Mercedes Benz 280E engine M110.988, since they are mechanical there are no solenoids in them, any tricks?

  • @danielvaldezaguirre you need a special pressure testing machine for that on those old things. Scotty

  • het scotty so acoording to your video, do u need to disconnect the fuel line in order to check the fuel injectors or not. I am not sure but lately my car is having trouble starting when is cold and I have to press the gas and then it starts thumping and the engine finally idles like is supposed to. Do you think is the fuel injectors that are clogged or could it be something else like the alternator or starter. Thanks a bunch and sorry for bugging you too much.

    Thanxs.

  • @74bluewolf watch my other video "how to clean fuel injectors in your car" and have that done to clean em, easily could be that. Scotty

  • What about resistance and leakage test. You forgot that! People, be careful with todays car. Their not the same as before. Yeah, great tool but its only half of the Diagnostic...

  • @videospedrin07 NO tool diagnoses it all. I could show a freeze frame oscilliscope wave form analysis of the injectors too, but most people aren't going to be able to do that. This is a quick, easy way of testing common failures. Scotty

  • Too bad the probe costs $80. Great video, thanks!

  • @philiptong81 Hey, fuel injectors cost well over a hundred bucks APIECE. so the tool is quite a bargain if you ask me. Scotty

  • Comment removed

  • very cool video scotty! i love your humor

  • exactly , i need up to 4 or 5 hours to change the 3 hided full injector on my ford v6 freestar .

  • what if the car dosn't start...

  • @FROMANJEFF44 watch my video "fixing a car that cranks but doesn't start up" then. Scotty

  • @FROMANJEFF44 Then you call AAA.

  • Lol i have a habit of watching these videos for no reason. but i LOVE the surprise ending on how he's going to wrap up the episode xD... back of a truck bed... wtf?

  • Scotty, I am fan of your dramas

  • Hi scotty i have a question I have a 91' mitsubishi lancer with a 4g13 engine (1300 cc) with a carburettor, its necessary to equip it with a catalythic converter or not? (it have piece in the exhaust thats its similar to a cathalythic converter but dont have a lambda probe I have to renew the resonator but I need to know if I have to buy a new cathalytic converter)

  • Scotty that EFI quick probe is a pretty nifty trick, do you know if I can also use it to measure the temperature of a turkey to see if it's been cooked thoroughly?

  • @ReaverKS haha

  • Keep these videos coming! I love it!

With this video a lot of people will catch their cars on fire. When they open their fuel line to change the injector they won't have something aligned or nick an O ring or numerous other things. Then it will slowly leak out pooling in crevices on their engine. Heat or a bad ignition wire will make them think "My God, why did I try to repair my car myself" as it goes up in flames. Not a good way to save money by DIY.

  • u could do this with a simple screwdriver

  • The motor is good but sounds when I start it and press the gas it take forever to gointo gear

  • @lacrazy781 can be weak injectors, weak fuel pump, even a weak transmission. Check em all. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty i have a car that turns on and when i start it and put it in gear sometimes it take a long time to take off and sometimes it dont it sounds like there is something lose in the motor can u give me your advice

    Thank you

    Santiago

  • @lacrazy781 Check the fuel pressure first, could be a weak fuel pump, or could be dirty injectors as in this video. Scotty

  • i should have bought a jap car.... i fucking hate my f-150 2000.... every thing is so long to repair!!!

  • Fuel injectors are nothing to troubleshoot on honda's just plug one plug wire at a time and see if the idle changes with each plug tell you find the messed up cylinder that is misfiring because when you pull the right plug that is misfiring the engine won't change idle just same pitch and tune. This way you can check for spark at wire and trouble shoot the injector and plug in the cylinder. Another thing that happens in honda's is carbon build up at the injectors.

  • Cool tool!

  • hey scotty how can i check my spider fuel injectors in my 2001 chevy blazer i get rly bad gas mileage i have to fill it 2 times a week i use to fill it one time a week and what you think what can be the problem ?

  • @boss407 they're hiding inside, you really can't check em. a REALLY bad design. But they do go bad all the time, being plastic on top of a hot engine. If the plugs keep getting wet with fuel, that's probably it. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer hi scotty my car is 2008 Toyota corolla 1.6 how do i know if my fuel injectors needs to clean up

cos when i start to accelerate the car it takes to long to go off

    thanks

  • hey muchas gracias!!! no es lo que necesitaba pero me ayuda un poco

  • Scotty Hi my name is Cesar and I would like to know how can remove the nozzles to clean my car, I wonder if you can help.

    thanks in advance!

  • @hipocampus2341 don't know what you mean by "nozzles". You can't clean fuel injectors yourself by removing them unless you have an ultrasonic cleaning machine. To remove them though, watch my other video "how to replace fuel injectors in your car. " Scotty

  • first of all my car doesn't turn on?????

  • pretty complex electronics, hahahahaha

  • hey scotty! this sophisticated electronic device seems wonderful and you delivered the information like a TRUE pitchman.... but , correct me if I'm wrong, don't the light pulses just respond in retrospect to the sound of the EFI solenoid? can this be substituted by the ever so ancient caveman contraption called a mechanics stethoscope? just wondering.

  • @ENGINEERING4DUMMIES Ah, depends upon your ears, how well they listen. and it's MUCH easier to see and count flashes with your eyes than to analyze clicks in a stethoscope. Scotty

  • youre the best scotty

  • What is the model number of the tool?

    Where did you get it?

    Thanks very much!

  • @TRcustomengineering Just google "waekon EFI tester" and you'll find it. Scotty

  • Where can i get that fuel injectors tester??

  • @red666A google Waekon EFI tester. Scotty

  • Hey man i bought an 85 chevy s10, it has a 2.8 liter in it and i am trying to figure out how to change the fuel filter. I went ahead and bought the filter and it ended up being about 2 inches long and about as big around as my finger and I have no clue where it goes. I think it might be behind the carburetor somewhere but i could really use some specifics on where its located if you could help..

  • @caigancaigan if it has a carb, the filter is in the line going into the carburetor where the line bolts in. Scotty

  • awesome info Scotty...

    great stuff!!

  • Where can i find this Probe scotty?

  • You can always use a long screwdriver to touch each injector and listen through the screwdriver for clicking noises.

  • all of a sudden my honda civic, which has the same engine as this 1 in your vid, is having power loss problems occasionaly in 1st and 2nd gear, but works fine every now and then, for example id be starting off good in 1st gear then i just dont hear the cars engine reving anymore and the rpms drop, then i have to shift to second gear so it would keep going, but when it starts to lose power i try to gas i only hear poping sounds in the exhaust, and suggestions?? weird it has power then it has no

  • I have a sebring and my car will idle super low and the oil light comes on?

  • Hey Scotty brother... wanted to know which one is cheaper to fix, a carburetor or a fuel injection system ? And also wanted to know which of the two is the most reliable ? I m going to buy a 91 corolla and it has carburetor on it... wanted to grab some advices from you before buying the car.

  • well i got this 1994 cherokee jeep i dont know if i need it is like this i just come outside it was to it look like it didnt wont turn over it kept cruck up sound so didnt start

  • How much is it and were did you get it from?
