clueless doctors- i had breathing problems until i changed my diet to starve yeast from my lungs/blood- docs censor easy cheap solutions- bc docs want to be worshipped & rich- sad suffering for children unnecessary & violation of human rights (why not throw away pooh bear or put in wash machine? weird plot
@lmollot -- Yeast in your blood is called candidemia and in the lungs, it's fungal pneumonia; if you had either one, you would probably have HIV or cancer and definitely be in the ICU. You've been surfing too many "natural health" sites on the internet. Never mind the fact that the movie isn't about the kid's allergies, it's about the perils of whistleblowing against massive corporate malfeasance. The plot makes perfect sense when you actually know what it is.
this not battle of french vs english- its battle of men vs men- as usual -like israeli & palestinian mothers & children will get their OWN mothers nation- free from sex assaults, drugs & bombs- when we let men in the womens villages- it attracts enemy men who want to attack the men inside the village- its white men who started attacking women/children-natives only adopted enemy "innocents as women/children from both sides were called- lets get sane !
@lmollot OK women quit having kids,or just have female kids, then you can have a guy on a leash in the basement. All women can do this and have a happy world, with none of the bad men around.Oh,..and it's the white men, ahhh now I get it.So make the man in the basement non-white.SEE you've saved the world.
This movie, in my opinion, is flawless..compelling story, powerful actors, beautiful cinematography of "ordinary" American life, awesome soundtrack, etc...this is by far Michael Mann's best film.

i'm for one that in film making, every bit of detail has some sort of meaning. so my question: anyone know the significance of the map of china behind crowe in the office/party scene?
She would be better of with out the medicine if you just opened the windows and did some house work. Polish is a scam and it gives children asthma. All you need is a damp cloth!
One thing: it's easy to underestimate the power of the score (music) in this film, and Michael Mann understands it so well. Lisa Gerrard did an incredible job--the score is evocative and brilliant at building tension, without being "John Williams" over-the-top, which actually SUPPORTS the actors in their work. Bravo to that.
I dont understand why the d.o.p. is crossing the 180* line in this film. It makes it freaking rong. Élementary rule from cinema. It appends the first time few second after 4:40 and I remember it append also in the asian restaurant later on in the film.
@SimonMics That is a film school, basic production class rule. It can be broken with reason, many directors do it. Films shouldn't have to follow rules.
@SimonMics It's not an elementary rule of cinema. It's an elementary rule of the continuity editing system, i.e. classical Hollywood cinema, not cinema in general. When they cross the 180 line in the Japanese restaurant it's actually an hommage to Japanese cinema of the 1950's. (Directors like Ozu wouldn't pay any attention to American conventions, developing his own style instead.)
Everyone's going for their guns cause I made what I thought was obviously a joke, soooo uptight folks, I'm a Scot, so here's a joke, " have you heard about the two Scottish queers? Ben Doon and Phil McCracken. OH no, now I'll get hell for not saying "gay", till 1975 gay meant happy, I give up, piss off your heads are so far up yer arseholes your blinded, I marched for Civil Rights b4 you were born, wankers.
I just hope this isn't a jew movie to make me hate arabs, I hate arabs anyway, and germans and japs, now I'm starting to hate jews, oh well we'll see.
Does that mean you know I was kidding, that was comedy, in this brave new world it's being phased out. From now on I'll write ha-ha so fucking dimwit youngsters can twig on, suss it out, God help you all.
@septip123 basically what happened to him in this movie but from him. hes actually a good story teller. he also told us he worked on finding chemicals that would effect your brain the same as nicotine without creating heart problems, and also they had him work on nicotine spiking(making nicotine more potent) so they could have less in cigarettes to make it seem "safer".
You know I really love how Mann captures 'work ethic' in his movies.
In Heat regardless of whether they're the 'good guys' or 'bad guys' they're all men of their profession who take what they do seriously, same goes with collateral, and here we see Crowe's character calmly packing away his things after a hard day's work and going straight home to his family.
It's really nice seeing stuff like this for me haha.
An exceptional piece of filmmaking. Really powerful stuff, I showed a few clips of it in my business studies class for an ethics session and it really had an impact.
I just watched this....great movie, to bad it was non-fiction...felt bad for Crowe's roll...all he did was tell the truth...and some corporate people threw papers with signitures at him and threatened him and his family.
This is the greatest work of art cinema has ever produced, it is an absolute masterpiece.

One of the best films I've ever seen. It's definitely a standard for any corporate/political thriller.

Great movie, great actors, but look how much it has sold, even $8 Million less than its budget. $60M vs $68M
why? "because the truth is never supported!"
