There must be some SERIOUS stresses on those pins and fixings when that thing is on it's way up. Think of the amount of torque that thing is exerting on them little pins on the ram. I'm actually surprised it worked even once without shearing them pins, or ripping the bracket off the side. You must have some serious good welders on your jobs!

@MrThisIsMeToo wow... im sorry i dont put commers and full stops everywhere. I will try and be more Gramatically correct for you because it's so important when writing a youtube comment!!!! :S haha
Great idea but your setup appears to be way too small and underpowered. You blow a seal and you lose a tower, and whatever you're flying when it all hits your maintenance stand and the ground. You still need a gen-pole and pulley system to raise and lower this kind of weight. Or at least as a safety backup, in your case. I used to think about a portable electric wench to replace the truck but this would most likely do considerable damage to the cable, which would be used on all the towers...
@IRONMAIDENFAN2006 if u dont find his comment funny, then ure an extremely sad bastard with no sense of humour, im not a stupid kid, im 21 and judging by it im more mature than you...... go choke on a double cheeseburger pls!
why would the cost be so high its just a ram and pump hinge and a couple of welds for attaching the ram ,, i guess to me it dont look much as where i work we have heaps of rams of this size and we have to service them .
The cost of the ram, as well as the extra work of powering it and making the hinge, probably cost more in time and effort than renting a crane for the day.
Now what when i want to put my new 2m beam that i just purchased so off to the crane hire company to hire another crane for the day ... I like the idea of this self supporting tilt tower when i need to make changes to my antenna system i do not have to keep running to the crane hire company plus i can service the ram my self if needed cheers 73 vk5xxx
There are many active and proposed windfarms that this could come in handy on because of the remote locations or lack of a nearby towing service. Mountain tops, deserts, and atop existing bridges and buildings. Besides, if the guy delivering it could just leave it to the assembly crew, there would be no need for a winch rig on site.
Once you have a standardized design, the ram and hinges are easy and cheap to make, especially if you have lots of towers to raise and lower. For just one tower, yeah, just rent a crane, but if you have 50to raise and maintain, crane rental is expensive as hell. Numbers make things cheaper to build, and if they just used a single detachable ram for all the towers, it would DEFINETLY be cheaper than a week of crane rental.
I agree, rams ain't really expensive. I wonder if anyone else has considered just making the towers and rams so one ram can be removed and used to lift multiple towers? I mean, once it's raised, then what? The ram just sits there? Use the detachable ram, raise the tower, detach, move to the next one. Store it in a shed until you need to lower one again. Am I not thinking of something here? If I erected and owned a windfarm, it'd be cheaper than buying a crane. Or IS that how they do it?
How much payload can be raised with the 80' tower? I can just only imagine the stress on the tower base, with a large load on top and the cylinder near the bottom :)
Hey have you seen my video of my tower from ReDriven? I love this thing The turbine is always spinning even in the lightest winds. By the way Do you have a video of the 80 Foot Tower. I would like to see that. I heard that there's no such thing. Is it the same diameter of pipe?
i got one of these!!! with 2 cylinders!!! galvinezed... there's a patent on it allready. Got mine from redriven. the company is in canada but the product is from china

i was thinking the same thing. These "inventors"
jump over the dollars to get to the nickles. dumb. hell, you could lift this with a tow truck for 200 bucks.
