Anakin believes him and after Windu was killed, he pledges himself to Palpatine's teachings. When Padme finds out he's joined the Dark Side, She looses her wil; to live and dies in childbirth. Ironic, huh? He joins the Dark Side to save her and that's what eventually kills her anyways.
