  • Awesome video, well put together! Happy hawking!

  • It would be cool to have the video without the distraction of the music.

  • @BobFinger1337

yeah but without a mic, and all different clips put together it sounds weird... try your volume knob...

  • Nice. Just found and filmed a Cooper and her nest with 2 large juveniles in the back yard. Man they can fly through the trees! If they were chipmunk hunters I'd like to rope-in and adopt one. Doubt that's legal here as they're not abandoned. Don't have the time or space to train either.

  • @TheLimbReaper

I would love to see it. The coops around here have only 10-15 day old young all fluffy and just starting to grow feathers. I would love to see the footage. Usually they have 3-4/nest. You need to be a general class falconer to train and fly a coopers hawk. watching and filming can be just as fun. Can you see down into the nest from your yard?

  • @Aaronsworlddotcom I'll upload ASAP. Hectic long work days, cutting trees tomorrow. Will let you know when. Yes, we can see 2 from a slight ground elevation. Can barely see due to ivy & leaves. Thanks, TRL

  • Can you describe your manning process? When you said this was a week into training, was this a week after capture?

  • Shes a beatiful bird. How much does she usually weigh on a hunting day.

  • @Kjredtail

It has been A while but I think she was low 400's, males are 300ish

  • Nice little coopers and good training methods but I'm a little concerned that you have given out so much information to the general public. Don't want just anyone trying this without a permit you know.

Any other vids of him hunting?

  • Great video.

  • LET IT FREE!!!!

  • Sunlight gives them vitamin D3 (just like for humans)

also, vitamin D3 is very important for their calcium intake

That one big reason why it is important to weather birds

  • We have a cooper that frequently visits our backyard birdfeeder :( We've determined it is a juvenile because it has yellow eyes. At what age do their eyes change to dark?

  • I wanna be a falconer.....how can i train my hawk ??? can any one help me out ???

  • how many years have u been doing falconry

    i'm an apprentice

and which species of birds of prey have u worked with

    just curious

  • I love this bird, what quarry will it take and at what weight do you hunt yours at?

  • can you send your contact for me too ?..I'm falconer from Indonesia...maybe we can chat more about falconry from our country each....thanks :)

  • i know this is time consuming and i am up for that but is it expensive?

  • I have one out my back window right now ripping into 2 starlings for a light lunch.

  • Wow, that's so great. I'm very impressed you managed to do that with a Coopers. Seems like every one that came to our rehab was a complete live wire, I can hardly imagine getting one trained to the level you have here.

    Excellent Birds :)

  • Was all this in one day?

  • love the video..whats the name of the song?

  • "Nutshell" by Alice in Chains....awesome song. Awesome birds, too. :)

  • aaron i was curious on where a prime location would be to trap a red tail or coopers hawk? im located in southern ontario. i hope sticking to the mouse bait is ok, i also use a steel mesh box with the mono filliman string loops since was the easiest way to go for me, works good for owls anyway. thanks for all your advice.

    thanks, fellow falcon

  • Very cool birds. I would love to hold a cooper's hawk. I got to see a wild juvenile close today, he was sitting in my parent's dog wood only 5ft off the ground. He let me get within 11ft of him before he left letting me get some nice pictures.

How long do hawks usually live and what do you usually do with the animals they catch?

  • What are you feeding him while training?

  • Quail

  • LET THE HAWK FREE! @Aaronsworlddotcom

  • what does ''to weather'' mean

  • Basically let them soak up sun (good for their feathers) and bathe, etc...

  • Hello, Aaron. I am falconer in NY. and I would like to chat with you about Cooper's Hawks. What is the best way to contact you? Thank you.

  • emailed you back ;)

  • This could have been the best falconry video online if you had a mic. Great info and awesome video..!!!!

    5* regardless of no mic.

I think you are, The Bird Whisperer... haha

  • Hey, I liked the Vid AND the music! Nice coop!

  • dont it really piss you off when someone play stupid crap music and ruins a vid. why add a bunch of total shite songs to a vid ? why not explain what you are doing and not put text? good vid. bad music . hate the text. 9 out of 10 for the vid. 1 out of 10 for music. 1 out of 10 for the text. on the hole 5 out of 10. next time try talking

  • didn't have a mic to narrate... figured it was better than the cut up sounds and things that distracted from it. Just turn off your speakers.... thanks for the comments I do appreciate it and agree with you... I want to do something similar on a new video but need a mic first. ;)

  • hi there , great video , u really get info from it but i got a question , do u think puting the bird perch to socialize without the hud makes the bird feel traped and have the idea to fly away as soon as he gets the chance coz most of the falconers advise me to always hood my bird i got a lanner falcon and am hooding it most of the time i only take it of when am training her , that all i would like to hear what u think of that method .

  • I would not do this with a bird that was not properly manned before this. I am there to watch how they do and put them away if it is too much. Each bird is different, and each species has a different way to manage them. Also there are many way to fly and train a bird, each falconer has their own method. I have done both. I would just go on with youre training with the idea of trying to avoid any negative association. It is up to you to figure out what that is... ;)

  • hey arron i am an apprentise and i have a cooper on the way within a few weeks ( i cant wait!!) :) can u please send me some videos of u training urs from how u started to where u began , iv watched most of ur videos and im reli impressed and would like to learn from ur techniques , is this possible? cheers ryan

  • I didn;t know they had an apprentice-sponsor system in the U.K.

Have you trained any other BOP before?

  • no there is no sponsor system as i know of but im jus begining to learn under a few experts and any1 i can get advice or infomation from.

and no not yet but getting my first in a couple of weeks now.

have u got msn or Yahoo cuz it would be alot better to chat on there :) how do i send it without other people having my account adress?

  • just send me a message

  • A nice look into the hard work that goes into training a hunting hawk. Very informative! :)

  • how in the world do you get a hawk!!!!!

    but im not kidding how?

  • google the modern apprentice

  • how old do you have to be to own a red tialed hawk???

  • At least 14, I believe, but you must be apprenticed to a General or Master falconer. That requires ALOT of prepping including building a hawk's mew, weathering area, aquiring the proper equipment, studying for and taking a permit test, and a few other things.

  • what state?

  • 14 is the whole united state age with a few vartions ( contact you d.n.r.) and the above requierments are fedral laws to obtaian a hawking lisence

  • any know the music to the first part of the video is by.cheers

  • Alice in Chains, Nutshell for the first song. excellent videos, resparked my interest in falconry. Have to dig my books out again.

  • good falconry mate, good music editing to for the video too

  • Bravo!

  • 2 things.. One nice that you can get your coop to fly up like that for training. At that point I would be out hunting it.

Second Bcather if you have to ask about eagles and dont know anything about them, take it from me you are at least 10 years from getting one unless you buy a exotic eagle.

  • Ohh ya and I was... awesome flights on quail never seen a hawk go right in the bush and run em down on foot, lol he loved to do that if he didn't take them in the air... wish I would have got some of that on video.

Bcather doesn't have a falconry liscense just interested... ;)

  • Nice .. I have seen quite a few coops flown they are awesome. My fav is the Gos which I have flown 4 now one eyas. Last couple of years I have been flying a peregrine and that is awesome but it still dosnt compare to a gos on ducks !

  • Caught 2 today ;) I will upload some better gos/duck stuff sometime soon when I get it all edited ;)

  • awesome caint wait to see that

  • one word: Quail

    ;)

  • Yes one of my friends has a golden eagle... search for it on you tube, you can find videos of them hunting deer and coyotes/wolves with them. You can't get all of the eagles, so I am not sure about the Harpy. I know people are working on breeding the ornate though ;) -Aaron

  • why a coopers over a harris or a a falcon?

  • thought I commented oh well nice video wish I could do this but not enough time right now

  • Lol had to correct a spelling mistake ;)

thanks for the comment and rating.

  • yo Aaron do you know anything about eagles, harpy eagles inparticular, can eagles be trained like hawks and can people in the states even get them?

  • What I know about obtaining eagles in California is that you must be a Master falconer and you must also apply for a special license to take an eagle which is in danger of being killed by ranchers for killing livestock. That is the kicker too, you cannot just take any eagle, you can only take an eagle which is known to the state to be killing livestock. The state of Cali has only issued one of those licenses in the last 8 or so years.
