  • I enjoyed Brian Wilde as Queen Elizabeths torturer-in-chief in the BBC tv drama Elizabeth R in the 1970s.

  • I didn't know he was dead.

I loved him in Last of the Summer wine.

I remember from a show about 30 years ago, he knocked on the door of one of the battleaxe wives and asked if their friend was coming out to play. :)

    I was wetting myself.

  • Brian was my favorite character in "Last of the Summer Wine." Foggy's tall figure, craggy face, and quaint personality always cheered me up.

  • @KrassSucks i wish he was in more shows too, he was an awsome actor and very funny rip brian

  • One of Britains best comedy actors in my opinion. It's just a shame he wasn't in more shows.

  • Loved Brian in @porridge' and loved him as 'oggy on Last of the Summer Wine' too... Two totally different charaters but both so easy to watch and care about... Hopefully Foggy and Compo are chasing eachother over the clouds up above just waiting for dear old 'Cleggy' to make the threesome up, and pop off to the pub...

Do they have pubs in heaven though I wonder...

God bless you Brian and Bill, and thanks for all the laughs ... :0)x

  • brian was a gentlemen a brilliant actor... rip brian

  • good old tv

  • Foggy was the best third man. That scene where he keeps overspeaking the Jahovas witness by telling him war anecdotes resulting in the fella running away claiming to hear someone calling him never fails to crack me up.

R.I.P Brian Wilde, no one could have played Foggy better.

  • @burnzgotshot i love it when he trys to make polo cheap by using bikes or the episode when they all go on holiday also in the episode full steam ahead there are to many bits and episodes to mention. rip a legend and a gentlemen

  • I'd forgotten he played Barrowclough in Porridge. I remember him best as Foggy in Last of the Summer Wine. Looking at the 'dates' he was 80 when he died. What else did he do/star in?

  • God bless Brian Wilde.

  • thanks brian you was an amazing man

  • Oh R.I.P Brian Wilde, thanks for those Comedy Memories.

  • your grandfather realy was an unsung comedy legend,he bought me and others so much fun and laugther,i was so sorry of his passing, ill never forget the episode in last of summer wine where he wanted to use horlicks as tranquilisers.bless him.rip

  • Now they don't make LOSW anymore I regret not coming in to watch all the programmes. I saw quite a lot but not all of them :(

  • @MrBooojangles I heard rumors about making more for 2010

  • is he dead if so when did he die

  • @CybermeN100 Yes he is deceased, died 20/03/2008

  • He was my favourite character from Summer wine;-(

  • Thanks for the many laughs Brian. From Kentucky, USA.

  • Two years since his passing today...

    /salute That Man!

  • Gold are now showing the final episodes he was in this week.

  • Compo, Clegg and Foggy --- the immortal LOTSW trio.

  • Foggy was my fav out of last of summer wine :( R.I.P xxxxx

  • The best comedic actor ever, who portrayed the best comedic character ever. R.I.P Foggy you'll be missed.

  • the really sad thing about this tribute, is, it could now be for so many, shown in it

  • The golden age of last of the summer wine. Thanks for the happy memories foggy

  • Fantastic show and character.

  • one of the best shows on tv, and brian wilde seemed like such an english gentleman. he spoke so beautifully and had a wonderful way about him. thankyou brian for your wonderful time on this show. R.I.P x

  • Big, kindly face and gentle voice. I watched him more in Porridge but remember him well in Summer Wine too. Loved him as Barrowclough, gullible but loved by the inmates and never given too hard time of it. Nice touch this. Sad that he is away.

  • I'm sure he came back around 2005/2006

  • One of the best comedy actors in British Sit-com......I have wonderful wonderful memories of watching him and Compo insulting eachother.

  • I've always wanted a cap like Foggy wore, but could never find one. I think they are only available in the UK.

  • When did he finish last of the summer wine?

  • He finished in 1997 due to shingles. His last appearance was in A side car named Desire. His double was used in the Christmas special 1997 'The Groom' .He suggested Frank Thornton as his replacement. It was only suppose to be temporary. However as Thornton settled down Brian never returned to the show.

  • I'm American, so I must give a huge THANK YOU! for explaining what happened to "Foggy?" Okay, now it makes more sense. I thought it may have been the infamous "contract" disputes that more often than not, remove fantastic actors from their craft/shows... Again, thank you! - J

  • It's 1 year ago today, R.I.P Foggy.

  • I watch reruns of Last Of The Summer Wine all the time here in the USA, and his character of Foggy Dewhurst was a classic. The way Foggy, Compo and Clegg interacted with each other was pure comedy genius. So sad to know that 2/3 of that classic trio is gone. God rest your soul Brian, and thank you for all the laughter.

  • We will never forget you Mr Wilde.

  • RIP Brian, RIP Foggy.Thankyou for the laughs, thankyou for the fond memories!

  • hi everyone, brian was my grandad, and i loved him dearly, when he dies, it was a huge shock to my family, as my dad had been visiting him regularly, as he had a walking problem, fell down the stairs in his house, and went to hospital. it was deverstating, however i am happy for him as he dies a legend, and in his sleep in a comfy bed, not a hospital. dont believe me if you wish, however, i no the truth, and you were the best grandad ever. rip. your funeral was lovely. james x.

  • He was a great guy, always made me laugh

  • He did an awesome job portraying Foggy. He is my favorite of the trio.

  • @stalbans4eva Your grandfather left a wonderful comic legacy behind, rest assured of that. Nobody could've played the role of Foggy Dewhurst as well as he did. I always enjoy watching past episodes of LOTSW from my DVD collection. The chemistry between Foggy, Clegg and Compo couldn't be denied. It made for some great comedy. You were very fortunate to be related to him. God rest your soul Brian.

  • @stalbans4eva ......your grandfather was a true legend of comedy, barriclough etc,but ill never forget when he tried to use horlicks as tranqulisers in last of summer wine...people speak of bill owen as last of summer wine, and true he was worth it..but it would have not lasted without foggy.rip foggy

  • r.i.p.brian thank you for the laughs

  • true

  • rip foggy one of the best

  • RIP Brian You were great!!!!

  • He died while I was out of the country? Dang!

  • You have touched so many of us 'across the pond' in the States as well Mr. Wilde - for those few of us lucky enough to have known you on screen over here you have brought many cheers and laughs, and for that we are forever grateful!

Now - steady on that man and march slowly through those pearly gates for all you have given us... no need for trained killers in Heaven, only angels like you.

  • "He who makes us smile"...

  • i meant which is the good thing

  • i was flicking channels and i got to channel five and i heard the sad news... he died in his sleep which is the goos thing

  • An excellent and very emotional tribute to the man who made Last of the Summer Wine and Porridge such popular comedies! Rest in Peace, Brian. You will always be loved and remembered by the British public!

  • Another legend from my Childhood gone but not forgotten. One of the forgotten hero's of Uk Comedy but was always an essential part of any program he was in. Only the very best actors can carry off a totally different performance in 2 hit comedies of the 70s/80s and that is an achievement that only a few actors have managed. RIP Brian you deserve it.

  • Brian Wilde was on of the most underrated actors on British television. I was gutted when I heard of his death. :(

    Rest in peace Foggy.

    Lee

  • Thanks for the laughs Brian.

  • RIP Brian
