but the problem now is every one is on him about his jokes because they are saying that he had stole them from other people. but that the thing if you lesson to different comedians they sometimes use other people joke's and make them as there own it been that way for a long time so why do they care now.

Thats what I think too, Mencia is a great performer. He ads more fuel to the jokes. Sadly he is on the short list of writing his own material. But thats not that uncommon. People hire others to the work. It´s like politicians who has speechwriters or artists who hires songwriters.
@DannyDComedy the way I look at it is, if you think up a joke, then hear someone else make a very similar joke, I think it's okay to use it, b/c you didn't KNOW they had already made it, so it's not technically stealing. But if you hear them make a joke, THEN you make the same joke, that's stealing. It's not stealing if you thought up the joke after them, but were unaware at the time that they had already thought of it. That's how I see it.

I see what you mean about how tough it is to come up with really good, original material after wracking your brain and then have someone steal it from you.

They say that "the difference between genius and average is inspiration," i.e it's easy to understand something once it's been discovered, just like any high school physics-teacher can understand Einstein's theory.
So when some hack like Carlos Mencia or Dane Cook claims another's funny joke as their own, it's literally a crime via theft of intellectual property; but it's easier to get away with since it's less tangible; thus the honor-code must be stronger.
I couldn't care less if Mencia "stole" jokes. The fact that he can tell a knock knock or chicken cross the road joke better than any of these cry babies is why I like to listen to him. I've heard many of Menica's jokes before he used them, but I still laugh my ass off everytime I watch him. I don't care about any of these no name comics, and at the same time I'm not sending money to Mencia for his jokes.
...My best friend since 5th grade is a guy named Pedro who was born in Sao Paolo Brazil. I wrote that joke for me. But I will never, ever, tell that joke again out respect for the art. I, and other comics spend way too much time trying to write creative things to be ok with someone calling them a hack or a thief. Mencia deflects all criticisms and accusations, into "they're just jealous." And there is no respect for that...
Here's the thing....as comics, the challenge (aside from getting laughs) is to be original. And when you sacrifice originality for laughs, you lose respect within the community. So the idea is to take responsibility for your jokes. Example: I wrote a joke where I said that, "I know I talk a lot about black people, but its ok because my best friend is Brazilian, and that's kinda the same thing." It got laughs. But then someone pointed out that Daniel Tosh does a joke that's very similar.
I think the problem is that it is too late to get these comedians caught with their thumbs up their ass'...People don't want to look like the bad guy because you are catching these comedians around the time they are high in the lime-light.all these fans and or "ass in the seats" don't want to be disappointed at the first person to confront them because they will think you were jealous. I think Joe Rogan is fantastic.but maybe he shouldn't trip too much since maybe carlos doesn't steal his jokes!

I was once an amateur comedian myself 2002 to 2003 but never took it anywhere but I recently saw Patrice O'Neal stand up on TV and he almost told the same exact joke I told back then and I must say presented a hundreds times better then I did even if I felt some way about it I wouldn't go to one of his shows and jump up on stage and interupt his act for it like Joe Rogan did and if he is such a good guy he should of paid everyone in the audience thier money back and im not a Mencia fan niether

@DannyDComedy the way I look at it is, if you think up a joke, then hear someone else make a very similar joke, I think it's okay to use it, b/c you didn't KNOW they had already made it, so it's not technically stealing. But if you hear them make a joke, THEN you make the same joke, that's stealing. It's not stealing if you thought up the joke after them, but were unaware at the time that they had already thought of it. That's how I see it.

I couldn't care less if Mencia "stole" jokes. The fact that he can tell a knock knock or chicken cross the road joke better than any of these cry babies is why I like to listen to him. I've heard many of Menica's jokes before he used them, but I still laugh my ass off everytime I watch him. I, and other comics spend way too much time trying to write creative things to be ok with someone calling them a hack or a thief. Here's the thing....as comics, the challenge (aside from getting laughs) is to be original. And when you sacrifice originality for laughs, you lose respect within the community. So the idea is to take responsibility for your jokes. Example: I wrote a joke where I said that, "I know I talk a lot about black people, but its ok because my best friend is Brazilian, and that's kinda the same thing." It got laughs. But then someone pointed out that Daniel Tosh does a joke that's very similar.

I think the problem is that it is too late to get these comedians caught with their thumbs up their ass'...People don't want to look like the bad guy because you are catching these comedians around the time they are high in the lime-light.all these fans and or "ass in the seats" don't want to be disappointed at the first person to confront them because they will think you were jealous. No Joe Is funny. But he's not outstanding. Whats the average crowd attendance for a Joe Rogan comedy night. He plays to a few hundred, which is good. He has his certain niche of people. Everyone knows she does it, and many people speak on it. There is a difference between speaking on similar issues, and telling the exact same joke as somebody else. The most obvious example of Carlos doing this is him ripping off of Bill Cosby's bit.

@metamorphoDCU it may not be completely clear to a lot of people because what you see and experience isn't serious at all but once you get into comedy as a career or hobby, it truely becomes an art. As Joe Rogan said, being a comedian means thinking of things in ways very few people have and finding a way to form every day things into something laughable. And having a crowd of 500+ people laugh at your own jokes feels just as great as seeing your painting on the wall of an art exhibit.

And give the person you stole the joke from some of that cash you made. But joke thieves don't do that. Even if a headliner steals a joke from an open mic comic, it's still an injustice. But if a comedian writes a joke that bombs onstage, and you retell the same joke and kill, that doesn't make you any less of a douche for retelling it without permission. It's still stealing. You wouldn't have gotten that laugh if you didn't have an outline from someone else, regardless if you do it better.
