I really hate Windows, but I have to admit W7 was a huge upgrade. It runs, doesn't crash or blog my system down. It just kills me that they came out with vista, people payed money for it, it sucked, so MS fixes it, calls it W7 and sells it back to the public.
I recently considered getting a Mac because I'm doing an audio production degree and the college use Macs - once I'd priced up at the mac store a machine with equivalent features to the PC I'd spec'd out at £1200, the Mac, which wouldn't be as well specialised for audio, was at £3700. With that spare £2500 I save I could get a whole load more instruments, mics, amps etc that would improve my productivity far more than any OS from any developer.
Also I should mention in my case the Mac wasn't as good build quality, because the PC included a high end acoustically treated case and hardware specifically designed for silent operation, such as a low-end passively cooled graphics card. Such options do not exist on a mac pro, if you want to use it for music you still have to go with a fancy graphics card. If you want two 24" displays you'll get two lovely ones but at a cost of over a grand, when for audio two samsungs at £300 will be fine.
Computers don't work like cars bud. a Chevy s10 with a v8 will shit on you if you try to pull a house.
But computers work over how awesome the specs are. you can get a i7 875k, 8gb of ram, nvidia 470, and a sataIII ssd, with a few raptors in raid crammed in a mini itx case the size of a shoe box. and i am damn sure it will beat the shit out of you're mac pro at anything!!

A Hackintosh is nothing more than running OS X on a PC. The Mac experience is a delusional idea at best. Hardware is hardware software is software. 90% of the hardware in a Mac is identical to what is in a PC. Its mostly all made in China/Taiwan. i said i ran the test 32 bit, and geekbench is more osx optimised anyways, to do a real comparison you need a mac, and a real pc, i did the test and got just over 9000 on mine
The only reason to go with Apple over other Workstation vendors is the OS, though you can get a high quality workstation from Sun(Oracle now) preloaded with Linux at a great price. Other vendors offer that option too, and give me a KDE 4.4 interface over Apple's interface anyday. :)
Now, the Macbook Pro is something I'd be interested in! Full blown Unix OS with amazing laptop-centric capabilities(flawless suspend) that I can build my linux applications on. Xcode provides GCC and I can run zsh and install software from macports / fink.

lol, you are comical, a cheap case with an 8 core shoved in it, ummmm, the parts are made to fit in the computer, and in case you haven't noticed, new power supplies are modular, meaning you only plug in cables you need, so you don't have any extra's, and most cases have space on the one side to put extra cords away.
Also, your Mac Pro is the same thing without the wires, instead of wires, you're components plug right into the board, in every other aspect it's the same.
An i7 is an i7 no matter what computer it's in, that's like me saying 2 Boeing 767's while having 2 different liveries, are 2 different types of aircraft, when they are not,.
Of course, Mac OS X is based on Unix, which naturally is a less demanding kernel, if I ran Windows 98 on an i7 it'd be a lot faster than Windows 7 as well.

Make sure you take some vicodin so you can stomach the results and realize your Windows 7 is a slow snail just like Vista. It's really Vista anyway with new Parlor tricks.
well my geekbench score was done in 32 bit but it was 9100, and the imac i7 model is 9500, of course if i did mine in 64 bit it change some, but ive tested it in cinebench and others and it beat the mac

W7 is nothing more than vista with a new design that what an IT professor told me. in the core of the OS its still vista but most people don´t know that or don´t want to believe it but it is the truth.
Of course it is, however I have talked to those who worked closely on the 7 project, and it's been completely recoded, and I admit Vista was a flop, but Windows 7 runs so well, you almost forget about Vista, and it is like Vista never existed, Windows 7 while adding more features, etc, has a smaller HDD footprint than Vista.
it does use a lot of vistas features, but the fact is it runs better and it runs better on older hardware as where vista it didnt, its not as much of a resouce hog, so ya they did change somethings under the hood

The Mac Pro and Xserves however LITERALLY in every sense, a PC with EFI>BIOS with Mac OS X pre-installed. They use motherboards that are far from standard cheap-o boards cause, well, server motherboards aren't entirely standard :P
But the Mac Pro/Xserve do have standard PCI-e connections.

Windows 7 is not Windows Vista. I've been using it for a while now, and it's what Vista should have been.

I recently considered getting a Mac because I'm doing an audio production degree and the college use Macs - once I'd priced up at the mac store a machine with equivalent features to the PC I'd spec'd out at £1200, the Mac, which wouldn't be as well specialised for audio, was at £3700. With that spare £2500 I save I could get a whole load more instruments, mics, amps etc that would improve my productivity far more than any OS from any developer.

Also I should mention in my case the Mac wasn't as good build quality, because the PC included a high end acoustically treated case and hardware specifically designed for silent operation, such as a low-end passively cooled graphics card. Such options do not exist on a mac pro, if you want to use it for music you still have to go with a fancy graphics card. If you want two 24" displays you'll get two lovely ones but at a cost of over a grand, when for audio two samsungs at £300 will be fine.

For the price of a fully loaded mac pro You can build a pc with 2 6 core processers.. thats 12 physical cores and not to mention the 24 virtual cores.. 4 gtx 480 graphics cards in sli, (The best Graphics setup in the world) , 48 gigs of memory. with blue ray drives and then some (Sound cards , hard drive, etc)... A Hackintosh is nothing more than running OS X on a PC. The Mac experience is a delusional idea at best. Hardware is hardware software is software. 90% of the hardware in a Mac is identical to what is in a PC. Its mostly all made in China/Taiwan. The only reason to go with Apple over other Workstation vendors is the OS, though you can get a high quality workstation from Sun(Oracle now) preloaded with Linux at a great price. Other vendors offer that option too, and give me a KDE 4.4 interface over Apple's interface anyday. :)

lol, you are comical, a cheap case with an 8 core shoved in it, ummmm, the parts are made to fit in the computer, and in case you haven't noticed, new power supplies are modular, meaning you only plug in cables you need, so you don't have any extra's, and most cases have space on the one side to put extra cords away.
Also, your Mac Pro is the same thing without the wires, instead of wires, you're components plug right into the board, in every other aspect it's the same.

Oh it's quite easy to prove. Just check around YouTube, there are people here with the new iMac i7 doing Geekbench tests in OS X and Windows 7. Make sure you take some vicodin so you can stomach the results and realize your Windows 7 is a slow snail just like Vista. It's really Vista anyway with new Parlor tricks.

I'd love to see Apple make a game console. Windows 7 is far from being Vista on steroids, Windows 7 is the ultimate computer OS, in my opinion.
Touch capabilities, none of Apple's computers have touch features, unless you count that computer joke, the iPad as one.
OS X can handle more at one time, because it's not as resource hungry, due to it's base, it's based on not a power hungry kernel and base, OS X is like running Windows 95 running on a Quad Core in speed.

unlike the previous Xeon's 2.83 or 3.2GHz 12mb cache of ram they were 1000 dollars each,but the new 8 core Mac processors has the same specification of the 1366 xeon's 2.26GHz.I configured a PC on newegg with the budget equivalent to the price of a 8-Core Mac i7 version. I will save 600 and have a motherboard with more options then the Mac pro. Everything in the shopping cart is of high quality part nothing cheap, and exceed the Mac pro memory and storage capacity.You win with the pretty case

You have valid points for people that isn't as technical as others. People that build their own computers can argue that Mac's are over priced. You are still paying a premium for the computer case they developed years ago. The mother board is nothing special. Its a server class board. The new Mac pro processor can be purchased at a cheaper price.

You have a STRONG opinion my friend..but the way you going about SELLING apple is completely bias. Sure Microsoft screwed up with Vista, but Apple isn't perfect either, you give them too much credit. You are aware that Apple also rip off things from the Open Source Community, A Lot of the "innovation" from Apple was there in Linux. About Multitouch, It will do away with those little touchpads that break every so often. Now that's Innovative.

automobile manufactures construct their own propitiatory parts. Apple uses the SAME hardware as a PC but just for a ton more money. Alienware is just a fken Dell now, they used to be a boutique outlet but now its just a mass produced heap.
All of the "quality" of an mac has NO IMPACT on how it runs or how fast it is. So yeah, you get what you pay for, something that has no impact on the user environment. Great!

Wait, wait wait. Apple does not use the same hardware that normal PC OEM use. They use proprietary motherboards, hard drives, ram, and superdrives. They use they're own custom cases, design, and manufacturing process to make their computers the best. Maybe you don't care that they have the best looking computers in the world, but people care what they're computer looks and functions like.

Apple uses SATA hard drives... FAR from proprietary!
They use DDR3 ram, again, far from proprietary.
I THINK their motherboards are made by Intel, nVidia, and ATi, can't be sure.
Their superdrives use the same SATA connectors as any other SATA drive.

@steven4570 I don't have a Mac Pro tower, so honestly I cannot put a standard PCI-e graphics card in. I never said the iMacs/MacBooks/Mac Minis used standard PCI-e bus, well they do, just not upgradable :P
The Mac Pro and Xserves however LITERALLY in every sense, a PC with EFI>BIOS with Mac OS X pre-installed. They use motherboards that are far from standard cheap-o boards cause, well, server motherboards aren't entirely standard :P
But the Mac Pro/Xserve do have standard PCI-e connections.

Windows 7 is not Windows Vista. I've been using it for a while now, and it's what Vista should have been.
Microsoft has its ups and downs, but not all their products are terrible. Granted I'd much rather use a Mac than a Windows PC.
It's all personal preference, people.
Also, I've had a 360 for 2 years, and it's still RRoD-free.

FYI Windows 7 has been RTMed since July 22nd. Before Snow Leopard went gold I believe.
Lining up hundreds of OEM partners is a lot harder than readying yourself. That's why it takes longer for Windows to go retail. Seems logical to me.
I and thousands of others been using Windows 7 RTM since August 6th (TechNet/MSDN).

Just finished playing fallout 3 on full graphics, on a computer I paid £500 for 6 months ago. I have other, newer games and with the exception of crysis they all run well on full graphics. Now tell me... How much would you pay for an equivalent mac to do this? And could a mac do this without installing that thing you seem to hate so much, xp?
