  • Many of these are incorrect- If time is past the half hour mark ( ex. 4:30-4:59 ), you use the term "menos".

What you do with these is round them up to the next hour (ex. 4:36 --> 5:00)

Now, the difference between 4:36 and 5:00 is

    24 minutes.

    Your answer for 4:36-

Son las cinco menos veinte y cuatro.

    Another example: 1:45-

    Son las dos menos cuarto.

  • @torterrarulz

If I understand what you're saying, you're telling me everyone who speaks the language HAS to use "menos" after 30 minutes after the hour?

It's actually only an option. My native speaker friends tell me these things. So I'll believe them, since it's their language.

  • These videos are helping a lot. My spanish teacher goes a little to fast and doesn't explain things clearly. Thank you for making these videos!

  • Yay! You're making it easier! ^_^ My Spanish teacher goes way too fast and I can't keep up! :( Hopefully, if I keep watching your videos I'll get good grades! Gracias :D

  • my teacher said that after 31 it turns into menos ___ ? HELP

  • your videos are so clear that i feel my spanish has improved so thank you and keep them going :D

  • GRACIAS AMIGO

  • I love your accent so cute lol

  • This was a good video that a watched during class. It took up a lot of time which i was proud of! Haha

  • your kind of hot.

  • 2:40

  • 0:40

En español el número 22 se escribe así

    "VEINTIDOS"

    no "VEINTE Y DOS".

    VEINTIuno, 21

    VEINTItres, 23

    VEINTIcuatro, 24

    VEINTIcinco, 25 ....

  • foreigners learning Spanish tend to say "es la" for everything, it's a mistake but a common one. I have to admit I tend to do it the other way round and say "son las uno" by mistake.

  • hora

  • I'm a Spanish teacher in Tanzania and I've linked all 3 of these time telling videos on our blogs on wordpress; they are latamaritabonita and istlanguages - both in front of the wordpress address. You should check out some of my students videos for la Oficina del Doctor, your students could use them as a listening actividad. Keep up the good work!! Gracias, Sra. Tamara

  • From ~:40 to ~:55 you can also say Son (a number) para las (hours). For example:

Son veinte para las cuatro. Son diez para la dos. And when is ~:45 you can say Con cuarto para las (hours) or Son 25 para las (hours).

At least in mexico. But someone already said that. Hhhmmmm, well this doesn't hurt anyone. :)

  • Oh by the way, great lessons Jordan, out of all the stuff on the internet these videos are the best for me. Up until you reacted to someone saying you weren't a native speaker, I presumed that you were. Although I did kinda wonder why sometimes you struggled with the 'R'..

Anyway, I'm gonna keep watching all these helpful videos and learn some more.

They tell me, that because the question is: Que hora es? the answer is always: Es la......no matter if Una o dos, tres ....

Do I know weird people, or do I misunderstand?

  • I've never heard of that. I've only ever heard 'es la' una'. I've never heard "es la" used with the other numbers. Y conozco a mucha gente hispanohablante. [shrug]

  • @moestrei spanish is spoken differently in ever place throughout the many spanish speaking countries. It's probably a different dialect.

  • have i seen u in malaga before?

  • @c3r3zita...muchas gracias

  • Jordan, unfortunately in Mexico we don't use the time for some examples like the 4:40. In mexico it would be 20 para las 5, no las 5 menos 20. I would like to know the locations where you can use these times exactly, so I can show my students the different ways depending the locations where they are going.

  • Hey I am a chinese learner and I was wondering where do I find the sign "¡" or the letter "ñ" on my keyboard? It only comes in chinese letters/symbols but there must be a way to type it out in a general way.

¡Gracias! and I really enjoy the videos.

  • there are a few ways... the way to make them usually is with the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. make sure num-lock is on. Hold alt and then type the following codes on the pad and release alt. alt 0191 --> ¿ alt 0161 --> ¡ alt 0225 --> á alt 0233 --> é alt 0237 --> í alt 0241 --> ñ alt 0243 --> ó alt 0250 --> ú alt 0252 --> ü Hope that helps!
  • Hey i have a question- why do we say 'es la una' when the word for one is 'uno' ???

  • my theory: una refers to 'hora' which is feminine ;-)

  • @priaanka because la hora is female and you have to move uno to the female form, in this case UNA

  • okay if you want to say 1:25 or 1:05 would say es la una or son las una at the beginning?

  • 1:25 - es la una y veinticinco.

    1:05 - es la una y cinco.

  • @tontitofrito thxs my bff speaks speaks spanish and your vid's res helping me communicate so much better,Gracias!!

but you wore the right shirt!

  • thank you soo much. I'm going through all your video's because i have a final in 1 hora, and i think you brilliant!!

  • @tontitofrito it's the first time in youtube that i think u should be paid for the awesome effort.

  • 3:54 "Diez y ocho"... I'm not sure that's wrong ._., but is more common to use "dieciocho" in this case.

  • It actually is wrong (in spelling). I need to revise these videos but haven't had the time...

    Gracias.

  • you can use both!
