  • I almost crapped my pants. 13 years and I still almost crapped muy pants.

Gotto go watch Aken Bosch vids.

  • Hell, I did it first time. Don't remember if I completed the mission first time.

  • I actually took off up and to the left. Just barely clipped me.

  • Dying on the first try is mandatory for all newcomers to the game. No exceptions.

Now go restart the mission and do as he says this time.

  • @Whitecroc i didtn die and was the first time i played.. it did crash on me but i didnt die :S either the damage is relative to the difficulty level wich i chose normal, or i used a tougher ship than most

  • It was a bad idea to take a sip of coffee while pressing the start button...

  • I was wearing headphoines playing this in the middle of the night years ago and it scared the hell outta me I died the first time as it ran into me cuz I was too startled to know wtf was happening

  • I think we all slammed into that SD the first time we played this level.

  • Problem!!! i downloaded awakening for fs2 and the first mission i dont have any guns why not

  • Best shout along with the one at the escort mission (GO GO GO!)

  • I remember that I was so freaked out that by the time I figured out what I was supposed to do and began to dive, the thing hit me. XD

  • To be honest that scared the heck out of me the first time i played... My headset was set to max... Good times

  • One of the best things about this mission for me was seeing a new corner of the galaxy through the nebula, complete with another Ancient jump gate to who-knows-where. It shows that there is a LOT more to know about the Freespace universe than what you see directly in the rest of the game. Also, the scale of this mission is immense. You see the other gate 150km off, and several juggernauts, and still they look huge...

  • @bigwhiteyeti -Yup, this mission was one of the most atmospheric of the entire game for me. Just hammered home how huge space was and how tiny your little fighter is in comparison. Absolutely chilling.

  • DIVEDIVEDIVE, HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!

I freaked out when this first happened. God, I love this game, and this mission. The feeling of immensity you had, just sitting here in empty space with gigantic alien artifacts drifting out in the distance...simply amazing.

  • I was able to get out of the way my first time, but god did that scare the shit out of me lol

  • First-timers must get hit by the juggernaut. No exceptions.

  • I want to do a Sparta remix on this!

  • Ohhh yes...the first time I did this I remember looking left, I see jumpdrive shiny! I look right, I see juggernaut speeding towards me! I look back left and let out a loud "Eek!" and speeeeed out of the way, barely avoiding the big clonk! I do wonder how many evil smirks the devs did when making that bit.

  • This remains one of the most memorable starts to any mission ever.

"We're going through this jump gate. We don't know what's on the other side."

*Whump* (Kilometer-wide super juggernaut speeding into the node you just popped out of)

    "SHIIIIIII...!!!!"

  • "DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! Hit your burners, pilot!!!"

That scared the shit out of me...

  • @cazao24 Same happened to me when I saw this vid. I definitely would have died if I had this game and did that mission.

  • The first time I played this mission, In a blind panick I climbed instead of diving, straight into the juggernaughts path. "what who where?!

  • @Khuratokh I did EXACTLY the same thing. Clever reverse-psychology right there.

  • LOL, I remember this one. Holy smokes, the first time I played it, I was like "Dive why?" Then I got creamed. Hee hee, I loved this level.

  • "That was pretty interesting! But dropping a war ship on me is cheating! Take it back!"

  • Man I loved that scene....I honestly havn't looked at a load screen the same since

  • This should replace Peppy's "DO A BARREL ROLL"

  • Holy shit I remember when i first played this mission, i didn't move out of the way in time, and from that day forward i listened to everything a wingman had to say.

I'll never forget this mission either. Volition always had a way of making sure you feel the futility of fighting the Shivans throughout the first and second game, but the wingmen reporting MULTIPLE Super Juggernauts jumping into Gamma Draconis, after throwing nearly the entire armada defeating just one, REALLY hit the point home.

  • I suppose.. That was one of those WTFBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMUUUAHAAAHHAHA Moments I've ever had.

  • If you say you lived the first time you played that mission, you are flat out lieing

  • @Madcow5

I think I did, but only because I put all power to engines.

I also had the joystick on the ground, reading the box.

  • @Madcow5

I went right on in for the first time a few days ago. I got used to ignoring the AI's stupid banter, just trying to make sure that the fighters under my command do their damned job, and generally dealing with everything on my own while sending them off for minor tasks to keep them out my way.

Then literally the moment I hit that "commit" button, one of the fuckers starts screaming at me, to which my response was just "Bwuh?" *BOOM*

  • @Misishaxi That was not "one of those fuckers," that was LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER SNIPES, HERO OF THE GTVA! you're talking about. Best and only memorable character in the entire game.

  • @illogicallyinclined

Heard that. I wish they'd gone down a more wing-commandery route for the wingmen. That'd be awesome, you'd have actual characters you know flying with you and then when you hear "Alpha 2 is down, Alpha 2 is down!" You could be all like "GARRRYYY, NOOO! you were too beautiful for this world... "

But no. The many wingmen you have have only got about 2 voices between 'em. When things go all like "ALPHA 2 HERE, GOING DOWN!!" you're just like "meh, they'll replace him/her."

  • That was mental

    wtf happened

all i saw was a massive slipspace portal and what looked to be a shivan ship

  • This was one of the most interesting missions in FS2, flying covert behind enemy lines, scared the shit outta me first time I played the mission, it still gets my heart beating every time i hear "DIVE DIVE DIVE HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!"

  • @lhc89

Uh, how often do you hear that on a day-to-day basis?

  • @Misishaxi I meant each time I play the mission, should've mentioned that in the earlier post.

  • @lhc89 lol I know, (unfunny) jokes.

  • I remember myself thinking in that single moment "This is space you dumbass, you can't 'dive' in space... And why the f. are you shou"

    Ship explodes...

    "Oh, that's why."

  • hahahaha, yeah remember that. had my fingers on keys for auto-target, cup of coffee next to me, clicked start..... HOLY SHIT - man i was shocked! 2am, just wanted to do one more mission before sleeping and then that! this juggernaut totally took me by surprise - and i loved it for doing so ^^ such a great series, freespace.

  • I had my volume at full, scared the shiz outta me

  • haha first time this happened I had my volume cranked.....wowie!

  • I restarted about five times to get whats going on and avoid that.. sweet memory lol

  • Fighter pilots wear shorts?

  • smetimes short are refered as underpants

  • @PsychedelicZuma yes, and Space fighter pilots wear nothing but undies! new ages bro

  • Snipes is the best character of Freespace 2 don't you agree?

  • Well, the list of characters isn't exactly huge...

  • @idkfa7500 No doubt. Anybody is better than the guy behind the desk at GTA Command though. Geez he was annoying.

  • I totally crashed the first time i played this

  • OH SHI

  • I had just brought up some food and was eating and annoyed because my controls were inverted for some reason. I panicked and dropped my plate, and needless to say i got slammed. LOL

  • the first time i did this i was like "wtheck are you screaming about?" *eh?* O_O AHHH!! *hits burners*.....*little puff of flame appears*....-_- *restarts*

  • I got sent flying back in my chair.

  • Yeah, quite surprising, i was probably like bloat3d the first time ... kaboom.

This mission is also one of the most close to the shivans, we discover more about them but only to ask more question, in the end we never know who are really the shivans...

  • i jizzed my pants the first time i played that mission

  • @fdnfdjnedb You can change your shorts in 15 minutes.

  • I love this mission, the mara were so much more superior to the original which didn't make sense but hey i wasn't complaining, killled everything in site. Also even the Ai squadmates had a hard time dieing. The only other ship with a superior stat was the Arenies with ultra heavy hull damage.

  • ai pilots actually become invincible if they take to much damage, i think. I had one fighting a cruiser for like 5 minutes, and was on 7% hull the whole time. but yeah, the mara was awesome.

  • Only essential pilots become invincible, such as Zeta 1 on the mission where you explore the nebula beyond the portal in Gamma Draconus.

  • i love this mission amazing beginning. the first time i played it i survived but only just, i had really low hull integraty, so i restarted the mission. never did find out what those shivan node things did though where they for communications or somthing?

  • nearly had a heartattack...

  • "That was a little too close. We gotta wait 15 minutes to change our shorts."

    WIN

Shame volition wasn't able to get the 3rd game.

  • @CrazyEnzo03 Freespace 3 would have been epic, Volition really knew what they were doing.

  • yeah loved that part... I don't think I survived it the first time through.

I was like "what is with all of the screaming".... then you crank hard and hit the burners but not in time.

2nd time through though I killed everything feasible.... very little left behind and escaped... the horrid part was just before jump engines came back online a Shivan capital ship warps in and start using anti fighter beams on me.

  • LOL I loved that. When I first played that mission, I was like "Fuck Me!" and made it out alive the first time. However I actually dove port side hehe.

"We gotta wait 15 minutes to change our shorts" LOL my favorite line. :D

  • First time I played this, I jumped in, and shit myself. I didn't get the opportunity to "dive dive dive" that time. I did the second time, though. And then the Ravana that jumps in at the end of the mission killed me by colliding with me as it emerged from subspace. Well, crap.

    I love FreeSpace. ;)

  • In polish version it is a little bit gentlier

There is no NURKUJ (Dive in Polish) started by capital letter

  • I thought that this was a very comical scene, quite surprizing, I am thinking in slo mo "Dive, dive? What's that mean again? Oh yea, go down, ok, hit burners, ok, go faster, ok, why am I doing this? oh, now I see...." as i get creamed by the Sathanas warping out.

  • one of the best games out there but that part scared the hell out of me

  • anyone who says they weren't scared when they got to this mission is blatently lying. December 29th 2002. About 3am, headphones on full, sitting in my computer chair, then that happened... My god did i shit myself or what! Pitch black

  • LOL I shit my pants the first time I played this level. Totally caught me off guard. But very nostalgic. This is one of my favorite PC games ever.

  • I didn't make it first time I did it =P I was like.. what? Dive?! Oh di... (ow)

  • AAAAAAH, WHO'S BRILLIANT IDEA WAS TO TOSS A "SATHANAS" AT YOU?! DX

..God I love this game, and that particular mission was one of my favourites. But that "DIVE DIVE DIVE!" will forever haunt my nightmares. :B

  • Another amazing mission.

What else would you expect from FS2 ;)

  • This vid screwed the surprise :D But it was funny to see bro desperatly trying to dodge it

  • was the large thing they had to dodge there a sathanas, i think thats what i saw

  • yeah, it was.

  • Man, when that happened to me I was shocked like hell, barely hit the floor fast enuf

  • I freaked out when snipes screamed out DIVE DIVE DIVE, but I still reacted fast enough. Turned around and went, woah.

  • DIVE DIVE Di... oops, he didn't quite make it.

  • I was startled well, but I play so many flight sims, I reacted without thinking and avoided it *just* a beam cannon arm just missed me.

  • aaaaahhhh, this brings back memories

  • When I first ran into this, I decided I had to go to the bathroom, so I was going to immediately pause after hitting accept mission. Thus, the mission starts:

    DIVE DIVE DIVE

    *pause*

    Me: ...OHCRAP

    *unpause*

    *dives*

I survived because I had to take a sh*t. Freespace2 really is awesome.

  • Damn, I was lucky this is a lot less loud in the german version. I still almost didn't make it.

  • I jumped 3 ft in the air and broke my chair when that first happened.

  • My first reaction was "WTF?!" *Splat*

  • This mission startled the hell out of me. As soon as I saw the Sathanas, I knew exactly what was happening, and him shouting made me react all the faster. Seems like this kills a lot of people on the first time, luckily I wasn't distracted or I'm sure I would have died too. Definitely epic.

  • DIVE DIVE DIVE AGHHHHHH!

  • Hey, anyone find the Shivan Bonus mission yet?

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

  • Guess not =D

  • Because I watched this video before playing the actual mission, I always dive and live. Kudos to you.

  • at this scene i was scrating myself when he shouted"dive, dive, dive!"and i was like:"whoa wtf?

but i survived but hat much damage^^

  • I was so lucky I had the crap version of this game with no sound files (I got it from a friend) so I just saw the text and did what it said. Bam. Survived it and accomplished mission frst try. Then I got the version with sound ad somehow thought Snipes would be saying that text in a calm voice. The usual high-volume headphone treatment followed and I was so shocked by his loudness I died despite knowing what was coming :P

  • First time I thought he was saying DIE DIE DIE lol

  • ROFL

  • @MJOLNIR367 Making you the only person who followed his orders on the first try

  • @MJOLNIR367 Very fitting. First time I played this mission I was so surprised I did die.

  • This mission was tremendous.

  • The first time I went through that, I dived the wrong way, right into the Juggernaut. I corrected myself the second time onwards. Loved every second of that 15-minute suicide mission; managed to pull through in the end.

  • my volume was way too loud the first time i did this so i basically pissed myself and then i just remember becoming a fly on the windshield of a shivan juggernaut

  • haha, i remember this.

i was like "what do you mean dive!?"

then i got hit by a damn 6km long monster.

    and died.

  • Man, this made me jump. I also hated this mission, I could never get back to the node before the timer ran out...

  • Oh I remember my ship broken and a really big blasphemy

  • that was awesome moment from game, but first time i almost broke the joystick

  • i cant remember this one for some reason. Ive played it through 5 times and i still dont remember.

  • It's an optional mission.

  • i've played this mission in the german version before, but i didn't expect he would screm so loud. (i played the scp later)

  • heh.. first time i played FS2 i nearly crapped my pants at that part too...

    ahh.. i miss FS

  • me too

  • Yea that bit of the mission was a major shock

  • Freespace 4EVER

  • i died first time, scared the hell out of me... was listening to it on headphones, 3am, empty house, pitch black! good memories!!!

  • :/ u guys ruined it all...

    i've played this mission before...

  • Haha i remember the first time i got to this mission, i nearly had a heart attack but its was soooo amazing.

  • LOL, awesome. First time I met this I remember the cig falling out of my mouth and I jumped back like 1,5 metres with the chair falling over :D Scared the hell outta me :D

  • i made but lost 10% hull nobody can fully dodge it

  • i like to play it with headphones at a rather high volume, i almost peed my pants the first time i saw that sathanas coming towards me, just brilliant, the friggin game it's just too good

  • I fucking screamed my head off the first time it happened to me lmao.

  • this scared the shit out of me

  • I remember this one, an awesome start to an awesome mission. It was really worth it even if you have to play the 'nebula-storm-makes-your-sensors-worthless' rescue mission where finding the buoys drove you mad.

  • Yeah, that surprised me a bit

  • My installation was bugged so my burners didn't work, so it was 50/50 chance if I could make it without taking damage.

  • Oh My God I was like 7 or 8 when I played this and that part of the game scared the hell out of me.

  • guess who played THAT mission with the sound full up on a big sound system in the dark at 3 am?

gaw... i had rugburn from flipping my chair over...

  • LMFAO

  • This thing is BRILLIANT

  • in that mission i didn't dive, i just flied rigth next to it and had onlke 15% of hull left and, with luck, i passed the mission...

  • Uh, it would of been nice to see a bit more of the mission to give that moment a bit more context - oh well.

  • holy smokes

  • That caught me completely by surprise and I was crushed.

  • Me too. I died the first time because I panicked at the sound of the screaming.

  • haha, thought I good stop the ship like superman.. honestly follow the advice! :D

  • This was one of the best unexpected moments in video gaming. I was only about 14 or 15 when I got to this part. I was waiting for the thing to load, I look away for a second and see my brother (2 years younger) take a look at the screen and start to walk away. "DIVE DIVE DIVE!" First thing I noticed was my brother jumping in shock. Then I nearly jumped in my seat when I saw what was coming at me.

  • ROFL I remember the first time I did this mission.

I was drinking a soda when listening to the breifing. Then I sat back and pressed "Commit" then outta nowhere "DIVE DIVE DIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Im like "Oh shit!" and knocked over my soda. Owned.

  • Not me. I think I just sat there wondering why my wingman was screaming. And, uh, yeah, didn't take long to find out. My favorite moment in what is one of my favorite games.

  • When I first did this mission, I was shocked and push the burner while avoiding it.

  • We're gunna have to wait 15 minutes to change our shorts... Haha I remember the first time I played that mission... That was a rude shock =p

  • This is truly one of the best space sims ever made. Wish I could get it to work with WinXP :(

  • Try Freespace SCP, build 3.6.9.

  • SCP?

What is that, a new version?

  • SCP = Source Code Project

Since Volition stopped the production of freespace (because they were bought by another company) they released the licence on freespace, so it's basically freespace 2 plus TONS of graphical upgrades and game specs. Plus the SCP can run total conversions and mods for hours more of shivan killing.

So SCP is freespace 2 upgraded by the player community and free to download

  • Where i can download that Source COde Project?

Cuz im a Free Space fan, and it would be cool to see a GTA Colossus with new stuff!

Does it contains any cinematics or something?

  • You can download the installer on "scp . indiegames . us/news . php"

There isn't much new cinematics, but there are some sweet stuff like the Inferno campain where the GTVA is fighting the EA (Earth alliance) after a knossos has been installed to reopen the sol jump node. All new ships for terrans, vasudans and shivans, new weapons and sounds.

  • OMG!!

Does it take long to download?

I tried to download one, but it is awfully long, it has 2, 349, 284 Kb.

    It is a Torrent.

Does the file u r offering me its a Torrent to?

  • No it is an online downloader, it is not a torrent. You are limited to the server speed to download ~150kb/s, but with a DSL connection it should take 4-5 hours to download. It is a 2 gigs game.

  • go to fsoinstaller dot com It is what I used to get it to work. Takes fucking AAAAAAAAAGES to load, and you best wanna have cable, but as we all know it's worth it for FS2

  • I literally shit myself when I first played this mission, no one makes it the first time, brilliant game and the SCP makes it even better.

  • so true i was going to asses the situation i wondered why did he say dive i saw the sathanas but didnt think it was going to hit me when tried to lock it i couldnt meaning jump drive and i was in the way took me 1.5 second to realise i was gonna get hit

  • *bows* BEST MISSION EVER!

  • what campaign is this mission from?

  • SOC Part 2, after the whole Vasudan pilot part. I think you have to do the SOC Part 1 where you investigate the NTF.

  • I still remember that mission. I was playing later in the evening and was a bit tired, but that was a moment that definitely woke me up. Great game.

  • in polish version he screams a bit more like a veteran, and when i was starting this mission for first time i was like "ahh, crap" too :P

  • Man, that gave me the spooks. Even playing that for 3 times, I still got scared. Recommend trun ur volume off. :P

  • That scared the S*&t outta me the first time I played that mission. Happy times. Thanks for the memories. Bam

  • Without a doubt, one of the best moments of the entire game. I know I was a deer in the headlights when the mission started.

  • I was waiting for something like this to happen. With all the subspace warps happening, you were bound to end up in the path of a major ship at some point. Still a great and unexpected moment.

  • once i was crushed by Colossus in mission, when you`re defending Knossoss from NTF

  • i heard "DIVE" and i was already afterburning straight down. I actually managed it the first time. I didn't manage it the SECOND time though <.<

  • I barely got out of the way myself, I jumped when I heard "DIVE" and just went into like adrenaline rush or something.

  • yeah it scared me 2 T.T

  • Haha, i just turned around and looked at it coming at me like "ahh crap.."

  • I evaded it, but almost broke my joystick and the "tab" key doing so.

  • I got the hell out of the way before he even said any thing.

  • Nobody? I made it the first time. Was easy to dodge once you're a freespace veteran.

    silverado

  • yeah realy i beat freespace 1 right after my dad and i was like 8 but i made it out in time...

  • Oh man, the first time i played this this, i barely got out of the way. Awesome game.

  • I remeber this mission. The first time, I hit the afterburners and crash with the Satanas .Nobody make it the first time.

    By the way, great video.

  • I did. Got clipped pretty bad though...

  • @CaptainJoystick , me too - but because i have the bad habit of keeping the TAB pressed when i play this game
