how can this be ground fighting when you aren't even fighting....on the ground...
there is no ground fighting in wing chun...if you are doing what you are suppose to be doing (which is attacking) then your opponent won't have the opportunity to take you down...simple as that...if you can't understand that you obviously need more training....either that or a new sifu
This is really good stuff! I want to see more wing chunners getting cozy with the ground. Contrary to some of the comments re; there being no wing chun in this video, I see him using pak sau, bong sau, some elbows, closing the gap, trapping, chor ma ( turning from the waist as taught in chum kiu), biu ji applications, lots of stuff straight out of the forms! Obvious, classic, wing chun! Now I would like to see him doing stuff while actually ON the ground, like from inside the guard, anything!
Wing Chun is a beautiful stand up art I dont understand why alot of WC schools are so insecure about the popularity of grappling that they need to pretend they know all about it already...
We still do not understand of what you mean by insecurity. This particular student is currently studying with Calasanz and with Gracie's studio as well. Calasanz is just showing him skills and techniques for the schools system of Wing Chun. Do not get confused, Calasanz is a very unique martial artist, not too many students from other Wing Chun systems can do what he does. Thank you for your comment.
This is a joke as usual. This has nothing to do with Wing Chun. The reason people from other wing Chun systems cant do what you do is becaues they are actaully doing wing chun.
@kaliprophet but if people research things you will notice that the master do study other schools to devolp wing chun for modern practicalitys i.e. incase of being draged to the floor, hasnt samuel kwok been to view ju jitsu and done combined seminars think about martial arts are always devolped traditionally you want it the same but perhaps we have to get in touch with ip n find out eh?
You missed the point. Just because he's calling it wing chun doesnt make it wing chun. The video contains no wing chun, or even legitimate grappling for that matter. As I said before, it's a joke. Samuel Kwok doesnt give combined seminars and just abandon all of his wing chun
Thank you for your comment and observation regarding grappling. Martial art schools want to provide these services to students who ask for them, plain and simple. There are many techniques in traditional martial arts that are absolutely useful to the grappler and that can enhance their training.
The gentleman you see here practicing with Calasanz is a student of the Gracie system. He is open minded enough to look into other arts like Wing Chun to improve his training and thats what Calasanz is doing with him. We have plenty of people under similar circumstances training at the school.
We are very sure that you don't know Calasanz too well, plus it is hard to understand what he is doing here, you would have to know him in order for this video to make sense to you. We will send you something that will make more sense to you.
The explanation is simple. Calasanz is working with his student on shin kicks, striking the body, and closing the gap before a takedown. This is quite obvious in a 6+ minute video. Calasanz has trained in Judo, Aikido, and Hapkido. He has also had extensive training in Wing Chun and coined the phrase wing chun ground fighting many years ago. One point he likes to make in his teaching is make sure you first learn how to fight standing up before you learn how to fight on the ground.
Wing Chun is pretty cools but i really don't see it working as much compare to jiu jitsu even tho Wing Chun is meant to counter Jiu Jitsu moves, but i just don't see it working tho
If that retard in red ever did that crap in the street, he'd get dumped on his head. The good news is his giant fro would protect him from any brain damage(well, any MORE brain damage)
This is what you do, just watch very close how Calasanz places his head on his chest, he is feeling and controlling any movement the other fellow does, Calasanz deliver any attack from this position and trying to bring him down would not be that easy, but if you practice wing chun and you ever are arund this area just pass by the center and ask for Calasanz., he explain it to you the why he is using wing chun ground fighting which is part of chi sau
It is better to get off to the side. or at an angle. The centerline should not be a line down the front of the body as it is commonly taught, but is a sort of locus of points which are closest to touching between the two players.
I like that you are trying to incorporate some ground skills, but I think that some of the techniques here won't work against a good muay thai kick or a skill BJJ guy. For instance, you wouldn't block full power kick with your hands like at 2:50. Probably get a finger jammed. A lot of BJJ guys will also rollback when you barrel in to get a guard position. Like the concept you are working with though
Thanks Sir, You gave us an excellent and professional observation, when come to the ground or when we talk about MMA fighters, this is the ultimate martial arts, something could work but still that would not give you the best techniques, no matter how good you are immediately you square off with one of those guys somebody will lose or somebody can get hurt, yet we are working here on feeling your opponent by using a concept found in the wing chun system.
sorry but nothing this calasanz guy does makes sense to me......he'd get his ass handed to him just by a good boxer......simple as!!!

My oppinion, If u teach this action for reality self defense- better attack at vital point, groin attack should help much.

Curious how this is based on WC concepts? I don't even see the most simple concept of centerline displayed.

Centerline as it is taught will get you KOed.

lol crazy. You mean someone who don't know what he's talking about will get you KOed.
