hi I love the don k reed show with all the magic doowops but I really love all the doowop jingles from the shows with groups singing about don k reeds doowop shop anybody who has any let me know cheers tony
I started listening to Gus Gossert in 1970, and then began listenting to Don K Reed in 1975 and listened to the show every Sunday night until it's demise in 2002. At that time it seemed to me that that was when the music died. I have a collection of over 250 tapes of the Doo Wop Shop and still enjoy listening to them today.
Does anyone happen to have a tape of the Don K Reed Doowop Shop in July of 1997 when he "While Walking" by the Del-Airs (MBS Records) among many other obscure items (including the Mandells "Darling I'm Home," the V-Eights "My Heart," the Excellents "I Hear A Rhapsody" and Little Tommy and the Elgins "Never Love Again."???). I had taped the show but missplaced it years ago! Thanks
When I listened to the last JukeBox Saturday Night and spoke to Bobby Jay (by phone) I knew to DREAD the end. Bobby played songs that I had never even heard on the Doo Wop Shop!! However as he stated All GOOD thngs must come to an end. I treasured the Doo Wop Shop which opened it's doors exactly 1 week after my 14th birthday in June of 1975 until the "Shop" was closed27 years and almost 2 months later. Don K Reed you ran the "BEST" Shop that Group Harmony could ask for.
I lived in Queens and ran down to the basement every Sunday to listen to the Doo-wop sounds with Don k Reed. Now I live in Florida where there are no doo-wop stations but my ipod is equipped with all of my favorite songs to last me an eternity. I quess that is why A Bronx Tale is one of my favorite movies of all time, thanks.
CBS-FM was already going downhill when it got rid of "Jukebox Saturday Night" and "Soul Of The City" (Bobby Jay's shows) simultaneously, but getting rid of Don K. Reed's "Doo Wop Shop" was unforgivable. I'll never forget that Sunday when it happened, in August 2002. Granted, the DWS was trimmed down to four hours eventually and the playing of obscure cuts was diminshed tremendously by the end, but at least Sunday nights provided me an escape to a happy place. The Doo Wop Shop lives forever!
