  • what did he do to his amp to create distortion? My english is not so good. He used a razor blade to what?

  • He says he split the speaker cone with a razor blade.

  • Wow look at that old VH1 logo. That was when VH1 stood for Video Hits 1

  • Ray may be the man behind the kinks words but Dave was man behind the kinks sound, God save the kinks, and both Ray and Dave, because when they are together that's when there is the magic called the kinks who were, are and always will be the best band there ever was to me! -

  • @krankiekat I understand what you're getting at and I agree that Dave doesn't get enough credit, but you do realize that Ray composes and arranges the actual rhythm/melody of the song, right? So, Ray has a lot to do with the sound too.

  • @Mohammets Ray IS the Kinks. Dave IS a great rock guitar player.

  • @GaryNull

Dave was The Kinks, Ray became The Kinks. All in all, both are.

  • @mussman717word I always regard the singer of the band "the band". Take away the singer, what do you have? Not to say that Dave wasn't important, but without Ray, the band would not be great.

  • @GaryNull

That's quite a consumerist way of looking at things.

  • @mussman717word It's true though. Take Queen, no Freddy, no Queen. Same with Genesis. Without Gabriel, Genesis lost something very special. The band was still excellent for the next 2 albums, but Gabriel's abscence was missing big time.

  • @GaryNull

Led Zeppelin w/o John Bonham?, (hypathetically) The Doors w/o Ray Manzarek? Black Sabbath w/o Tony Iommi (or Ozzy for that matter)? Rage Against the Machine w/o Tom Morello? Red Hot Chili Peppers w/o Flea? Every band has a different dynamic, and in the beginning The Kinks dynamic was due to exactly what Dave described here. Ray, all due respect, had no part in it. However, as time went on, Ray began to show his full songwriting potential. Fact is, it's not Kinky w/o either of.

  • @krankiekat AMEN!

  • Does anyone have the full version of this interview?

  • His spoken voice is amazing, so full of karma and so softly spoken. Gives me goosebumps

  • @pjperry123 and aside from that, what he said, and did

  • Seems to be doing ok from what I hear. What ayear that was for the Davies brothers!

  • how's he doin', after the stroke??

  • Fabulous - fancy just bumping into both of them - lucky you!

  • it was amazing meeting him. i randomly met ronnie wood the same day and mike skinner the next which was the strangest two days of my life, ad honestly dave was the nicest and most awe inspiring to meet

  • i just met him in me local what a fuckin lovely fella

  • What/where is your local?????????

    Please please please tell me

  • it was the bald face stag in east finchley, cos he is from fortis green which is between east finch and muswell hill. i am from round the manor too.

  • I've met him too - stroke of luck and chance. At a Kinks show in NY state. Also Ian Gibbons, their kb player at the time.

  • yeah way too short, dave is SO lovely !!!!!

    but thanks for upéoading !!

  • It is funny that Dave created distortion, yet he is not regarded as a great player, though he is

  • Link Wray actually did the same thing, back in the early 60's I think; took a screwdriver to the speaker cone. Search him out, especially his instrumental entitled "Rumble".

  • Actually, Link did it back in '57!

  • Oooooh...Wish there was more of this!! Dave is SO AWESOME!!!

  • Yes, too short! He´s so good looking!!!

  • too short but thanx
