It is credited to Gene Raskin, who put English lyrics to the Russian song "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" ("Дорогой длинною"), written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. :O! I don't think she deteriorated! I think her voice gets better with age. Trust me, I just saw her in concert a couple of months ago. She just has more control over it than she used to it. You'll notice that when she wants to she adds a little bit more of a husky sound. She says her voice has matured and gotten stronger over the years & I think she's right!
