  • I dont know what to say really, i have goosebumps. An absolutely brilliant song from the master! I'm speechless

  • Amazing song and video.

  • The more I listen to this, the more I like it. So many of Mark's songs are history lessons....love them all.

  • just after seeing him live with bob dylan.. the man's a legend...

  • so sweet

  • If he was to go to the Scotia Bar in Glasgow and sing this there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house.

  • reminded me of the ships I sailed on

  • Still so amazing after all these years. Is there any other individual who has produced so many musical wonders?

  • wonderful mark . I love you so much. Each time I wach this video I end up with tears in my eyes. It evokes a stange effect in me. maybe that fear of old age . I'm 39 now and sometimes I have that fear of growing older and useless like tha ship.

  • Don't get tire of listening this song. It reminds me of my ships inspection works, on some allready gones into wreck tumbs.

  • GENIALT !!

  • Thanks for this video footage...it's poignantly touching how men once gave feminine names to proud ships in another day and age. It's not without a note of melancholy we watch her demise, as a twinge of almost human suffering waves up from the remains. Thank you Mark Knopfler for never disappointing me with your storytelling songs of times/events with such meaning, we will never forget them....

  • he is getting old and still in good healthy

  • Es bellisima, Mark Knofler es un genio. No cabe duda, las musas lo aman.

  • @MrJavo61

The car was the one.

  • pure and beautiful..

  • Mark

  • LOVE him to come Canada

  • MK is an understated talent. Given the amount of fine work he churns out, can't believe he isn't more commercial, but it's no doubt a good thing that he isn't. Absolutely musical genius, and the best guitarist I've heard, Clapton, Gilmour, BB King etc etc - none have the unique depth that Knopfler seems to manage in everything he does.

  • @tibbadog

MK understated? :-) No no, truly not! He has an very unique sound which is heard with the very first notes when he starts playing. His sweeping which he generates with a volume pedal is incredible and hard to copy. Unique :-)

  • MK is a massively understated talent. Given the amount of fine work he churns out, can't believe he isn't more commercial, but it's n doubt a good thing that he isn't. Absolutely sublime musical genius.

  • i'm melting.... thanks for posting it!

  • great!

  • Mark

  • thinking mans music from a guitar genius. Get a look at "Piper to the End" from Lucca in Italy. Convert it to an MP3. If it doesn't move you for sheer brilliance and musical acumen then you must be brain dead

  • which is exact event inspired him to write a song? Is there any article regarding the incident?

  • At least a good a good song from a Heavy talent folk that always "played to tie"

this get saved for the history casting booksong

  • Mark sei il numero 1

  • When you think what MK has produced over the last God knows how many years how can we not appreciate his input to music. He is briliant. Lots of English content that I know Brits like and loads of others as well! Just awesome in content and quality.

  • Another song that wounds my heart with monotonous languor, fabulous lyrics and a talking les paul, a stop in the tracks song. Thanks for the post

  • king of cool..

  • Please get Knopfler and Rea together to do a special gig before its too late....they have never collaborated together but can you imagine the two playing some of their selected work.. Bring it on !!!!!!!!

  • unique , amazing, genius at the gibson Les Paul ,, Mark Knofler

  • The only artiste I know who sounds better live than on disc.

  • I saw him in Amsterdam on June 30 - he is completely mindblowing but such a lovely gentle unassuming man!

  • So sad, these great ships seem to remind me of whales beaching, like the whales it just looks too undignified an end

  • How sad can a song be without actually being sad ;(

  • No one else could have made me weep for a scrapped ship. Magical man with a guitar with a soul that speaks to the heart.

  • @nacho1560 Being a Shipbuilder i can only agree - when a newbuild ship left the shipyard , I always felt, that it took a part of my soul to the sea. I have seen pictures of a few of ships, that i have paticepated in the building of, and i hate to see, how poorly they have been maintained.

Maybe You can understand, how it hurts an old shipbuilders heart, to hear this song, from the hand of one of the worlds greatest artists.

  • So damn beautiful...way above most artists.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time...

  • Sad, but also calming and most important - beautiful sounding.

I really had to grow into his "get lucky" stuff but it all fit's together so amazing.

He is evolving when others gave up long ago.

You have to respect a man that is creative and daring enough to do that.

  • Great great great song thanks mark

  • i am seeing him in 5 hours!

  • muito bom

  • Mark knopfler.e um Deus da guitrra.

  • Mark is definately one of the modern guitar greats!

  • An incomparable dirge as only a Scotsman could compose and perform. Expressing loss with intense emotion yet with great dignity. He is lamenting much more than the scrapping of a ship and the fall of The Clyde. If the song has the intended effect, you will feel your losses or some cruel injustice and weep

This video composition pairs with the audio to compiement the theme while rewarding us with shots of Sir Knopfler.

  • @pjane5 Er, did you mean Geordie?

    "fall of the Clyde"? Huh?

  • Simply beautiful!!!

    Grandma Mary

  • I thought so too. If he plays it live I'll post it also. Tour starts:- Apr 08, 2010 - Seattle, WA USA

  • @freezesleep

I just saw him last thursday in Toronto. He didn't play it. I was disappointed, but Telegraph Road made up for it

  • pure ( A#minor ) art :P

  • An evolving artist still improving.....

  • Yes one of Mark's best songs of all time..

  • Me ocurre exactamente lo mismo. Cuanto más la escucho más me gusta. Mark en estado puro.

  • Great !

  • great song, final solo is awesome, how do you think about a longer solo, maybe 5 minutes like in telegraph road? :)

  • Nicely done!

  • Great song, great boy, wish him other 100 yoer of life....so he will keep singing for us.

  • Beautiful song, beautifully done. Fine Video. Unforgettable.Respect to the Great Mark Knopfler.

  • finest song

  • beautiful

  • Rivoglio i DIRE STRAITS!!!

    :-(

  • Oh my God, where does this bloke pull these gems from

  • Oh my god, from the guitar god

  • He can make it cry...and sing.

The most emotionaly true songs being written today...(imo) :)

    Nice video, thank you!

  • thaks for this mate made my day when i saw it, the big K has still got it, wicked, just wicked

  • so good great sound thanks a lot mark go on

  • It's amazing!

  • deep song

  • This song is a true testement to a songwriting genius that is mark knopfler

  • he is great with his fingers

  • Unglaublich.

  • Mark. The Only One.

  • in complete awe..

  • The best in the world... The best in the Story...

  • Mark has always been an exceptional songwriter but as he is becoming older he seems to reaching greater heights. Along with his new studio & band of multi talented muscians he is creating a poetic atmospheric sound which allows the music to breathe & resonate to the fullest, awe inspiring & simply blows one's mind away.

Shades of Brothers in Arms -

    "Let me bid you farewell,

every man/ship has to die "

Congrats Freezesleep on a poignant film clip & lyrics are much appreciated, thanks Richard

  • top song

    Hala Stulecia

  • SEMPLICEMENTE STRAORDINARIO!!!

  • thanks.

  • GENIUS!!! And very nice video, by the way.

I miss the Clyde everyday... :'(

  • Many thanks...

  • I'm interested about the video, why is the boat pulling up against a beach like that? what's it from?

  • It is from the ships graveyard in the middle east.

  • Mark is one of the ever best...

  • Agree...

  • Brilliantly done!!! It shows love and care for this wonderful song!

  • Thanks. Happy you liked it.

  • Great song, my favorite of the new record

  • Liked by a lot of people who loved BIA in 1985 also.

  • When payday comes thursday I'm in the cd store like a flash to buy "Get Lucky".

  • Excellent! You will like many of the tracks.

    GRANDE KNOPFLER!!

  • Thank you so much. Music can make you feel true emotion.

  • I wanted to say simply fabulous but Mark is just so much more than that. I recall him slim, with curly hair with headbands in late teens. His music reflects an individual with great depth of thought and he always strikes me as "the perfect gentleman" type of man. Great sound and video 5* + Thank you for the upload.

  • Yes it is a pleasure to have grown up and had a musician mature with us. So many others stayed in the same time frame.

  • Beatiful song!

  • yes a moving tune and words.

  • great song! 5*****

  • Nice! Glad you like it..

  • best. the end

  • thanks!!

  • Up until the 1950s, they used to beach ships just outside Bo'ness in Scotland.

They would take the ship to the far side of the River Forth and set off full speed ahead to the opposite shore, near Bo'ness, to run the ship aground. When aground, a squad of men would then set about the task of breaking the ship down.

  • Thanks for the insight.. I think that's why this tune is so moving. Nowdays they are taken to a graveyard in places like India on the other side of the world.

  • Great song...MK the best song writer and guitar player.

  • Thanks for you comments.

  • great song!

  • Yes true!

  • beautiful - what a classic song

  • In the same way BIA was in 1985

  • A melhor música do CD. Espero que na turnê ele toque ela.

  • Be great live hope it features in the new tour

  • Awesome track! A true genius! And he keeps getting better and better =)

  • Yes agree with that! Like a fine wine!!

  • a great song, really good words, and music.

  • A story from the heart...

  • thanks; his music never ceases to move me

  • Yes Mark has that ability..

  • What concert is the video from?

  • The video is of Brother's in Arms played by Mark in a showcase in Berlin 10th September 2007. We thought the feel of So Far from the Clyde was very close to that of BIA so we tried to match the video to the music. We put a disclaimer at the start of the info section to say that SFFTC has never been played live.....(YET)?

  • Mark is a real genius!!!!!

Thanks a lot for posting this video!

  • An incredible song !! just melt your heart and soul !! Mark is the one and only,

  • Mark has always had that ability. His timing and touch are 2nd to none.

  • this tune is a gem i really love the mood mark is phenomenal at storytelling and this one is a testament to that way to go mk

  • A moving story and played to perfection.

  • great.

Got my Cd/Dvd on the way

  • Thank you!!

  • Nice!! Yeee Great Tour!!!
