Il suono della sua chitarra è inconfondibile! Ho un'età avanzata a la sua musica mi entusiasma. Vorrei tento assistere ad un suo concerto in prima fila per osservare le sue mani accarezzare le corde che emanano un suono dolcissimo!
wonderful mark . I love you so much. Each time I wach this video I end up with tears in my eyes. It evokes a stange effect in me. maybe that fear of old age . I'm 39 now and sometimes I have that fear of growing older and useless like tha ship.
Thanks for this video footage...it's poignantly touching how men once gave feminine names to proud ships in another day and age. It's not without a note of melancholy we watch her demise, as a twinge of almost human suffering waves up from the remains. Thank you Mark Knopfler for never disappointing me with your storytelling songs of times/events with such meaning, we will never forget them....
Es preciosa, empieza despacito y poco a poco te envuelve con la guitarra y las flautas,de mis preferidas del disco junto a Remembrance Day y The car was the one.
MK is an understated talent. Given the amount of fine work he churns out, can't believe he isn't more commercial, but it's no doubt a good thing that he isn't. Absolutely musical genius, and the best guitarist I've heard, Clapton, Gilmour, BB King etc etc - none have the unique depth that Knopfler seems to manage in everything he does.
MK understated? :-) No no, truly not! He has an very unique sound which is heard with the very first notes when he starts playing. His sweeping which he generates with a volume pedal is incredible and hard to copy. Unique :-)
MK is a massively understated talent. Given the amount of fine work he churns out, can't believe he isn't more commercial, but it's n doubt a good thing that he isn't. Absolutely sublime musical genius.
thinking mans music from a guitar genius. Get a look at "Piper to the End" from Lucca in Italy. Convert it to an MP3. If it doesn't move you for sheer brilliance and musical acumen then you must be brain dead
When you think what MK has produced over the last God knows how many years how can we not appreciate his input to music. He is briliant. Lots of English content that I know Brits like and loads of others as well! Just awesome in content and quality.
Please get Knopfler and Rea together to do a special gig before its too late....they have never collaborated together but can you imagine the two playing some of their selected work.. Bring it on !!!!!!!!
@nacho1560 Being a Shipbuilder i can only agree - when a newbuild ship left the shipyard , I always felt, that it took a part of my soul to the sea. I have seen pictures of a few of ships, that i have paticepated in the building of, and i hate to see, how poorly they have been maintained.
Maybe You can understand, how it hurts an old shipbuilders heart, to hear this song, from the hand of one of the worlds greatest artists.
An incomparable dirge as only a Scotsman could compose and perform. Expressing loss with intense emotion yet with great dignity. He is lamenting much more than the scrapping of a ship and the fall of The Clyde. If the song has the intended effect, you will feel your losses or some cruel injustice and weep
This video composition pairs with the audio to compiement the theme while rewarding us with shots of Sir Knopfler.
Mark has always been an exceptional songwriter but as he is becoming older he seems to reaching greater heights. Along with his new studio & band of multi talented muscians he is creating a poetic atmospheric sound which allows the music to breathe & resonate to the fullest, awe inspiring & simply blows one's mind away.

I wanted to say simply fabulous but Mark is just so much more than that. I recall him slim, with curly hair with headbands in late teens. His music reflects an individual with great depth of thought and he always strikes me as "the perfect gentleman" type of man. Great sound and video 5* + Thank you for the upload.
Up until the 1950s, they used to beach ships just outside Bo'ness in Scotland.
They would take the ship to the far side of the River Forth and set off full speed ahead to the opposite shore, near Bo'ness, to run the ship aground. When aground, a squad of men would then set about the task of breaking the ship down.
Thanks for the insight.. I think that's why this tune is so moving. Nowdays they are taken to a graveyard in places like India on the other side of the world.
The video is of Brother's in Arms played by Mark in a showcase in Berlin 10th September 2007. We thought the feel of So Far from the Clyde was very close to that of BIA so we tried to match the video to the music.
