If the price of gas dropped to $1 a gallon, all this go green talk, and alternative energy speak would vaporize. The US has more oil collectively than Saudi Arabia and we could crush the middle east if we got serious about oil. The new technologies and safety technologies in place today make it better than ever. We need to be doing it all. Oil wind solar nuclear biomass natural gas and also investing in new technologies like Fusion reactors. I'd like to see an ITER type project in the US.

Bush's own energy department says that drilling in the outer continental shelf won't do anything to affect prices. Currently oil companies have 68 milling acres to drill in. They should drill there. Does anyone really think that more of the same is the long term solution? In any case, oil isn't nationalized; the oil companies don't have to sell it to us. Europeans pay way more than we do. They'll just sell it overseas to Europe, China, and India.
