  • I have looked hard and you are the best 'Blaker' I have ever heard. He is my favorite. Draggin your thumb and stalling off beat..too tight man.

  • this is amazing. but i like john jacksons version the best. you should check it out. he gets overlooked a lot

  • Dude, that was awesome!!! You've got it

  • GREAT PICKING

  • this really SWINGS man. for the life of me i can't figure out how you do that half step run in the D chord.

  • FANTASTIC playing, buddy! Really captures the fun feeling, too.

  • I can play this pretty competently with my right hand, I just have to work on my fretting and with my left.

  • how long have you been playing this blake-ish style stuff?

  • Very nice indeed! Is that an old Schmidt Stella?

  • @zthetha i wish! it's just a tacoma, though i did obtain it from maestro stella himself, neil harpe!

  • just brilliant. Enjoyed it thorougly.

    many thanks,

    Laurent

  • You're a talented man!

  • nice

  • Very Good version.Love it.

  • Is ragtime guitar played in Conventional Tuning?

  • It can be played in several tunings - but often in conv. tuning, yes.

Also in dropped D for instance, to get some exciting deep base work in the key of D.

  • Nice one! I've been trying to Blind Blake stuff for years, this is really helpful being able to actually see how it's done. Thanks very much.

  • Yeah man!! Love it!!

  • Good stuff...i love all the quick changes....

It seems a doddle for you..awesome:-)

  • Super enjoyable!! Nice playing!

  • Good transcription but you miss the thumb roll--would like to see someone do the thumb roll, which is the most distinctive part of his bass work. I would learn how to do the thumb roll if I were you and it would be unstoppable

  • woohoo!

  • great playing hoss...

  • This is ace! Love the stomping yet cheeky feel.

  • My thoughts exactly - always thought it has that cheeky attitude to it ;-)

  • One of the best covers I have seen on Utube .. congrats

  • Very Nice!

  • Very inspiring man im gonna learn to play this.

  • man ur pure!

can't touch that n im sure blake would have given u the time, cuz ur grt.

bless you/me for retaining ur style.

  • You got it man ..you got it. I enjoyed that immensly. Thanks for posting.

  • really great!!!

  • Totally awesome! I play a much different version (I think the one I do is Blind McTell's or something). Cheers!

  • Wow you are a fantastic picker, I expect you know that. I am just starting out and was wondering how long you have been playing and if you have any tips on what I should be practicing to get a good start. I imagine you have been playing for about 20 years but you dont look old enough. Fantastic.

    Chris Walker

  • hi, thanks chris. i just followed around some great older pickers and immersed myself in the stuff (and am still doing both of those things!). my only tips are what have helped me - trying to learn by ear as much as possible and playing with other people as much as possible. that way you really soak it up. i started with mississippi john hurt and john fahey and worked my way towards blind blake and gary davis and skip james and luke jordan and...the list is endless!

    good luck, cheers,

    -c

  • superb man

  • Now all you need is a derby and a cane. and hit the subway trains.

  • Now that's some raggy Piedmont if I've ever heard it! Nice bud.

  • Very nice playing!

  • Wow! Great bouncy picking! Just the way I like it.

    Perfectomundo!

  • Nice work m8y. Love the authenticy' of the sound. Good picking too.

  • i love it!!! good job, it's fast & sounf great!

  • great playing indeed! could never get on with an L00 myself but you have a great relationship with yours.

  • great playing and AWESOME sound, this really stands out above all the vintage L00s, clarksdales grevens and whatever you can see on youtube. (unfortunately this tacoma model is not available anymore)

  • super good. nice rhythm too

  • Nice Job...The Book

  • great stuff!!!!!!!xx

  • It almost sounds like ragtime for the guitar. I like it. It has a groove to it.

  • very nice. blake is hard to pick out. any idea were i can pick up tabs?

  • Excellant :-))

  • that sounds great..nice job..

  • Are you using a thumb pick there?

  • nope...sometimes i use one, but i kind of like playing blake without a pick...

  • Very nice! so is that a Gibby Nick Lucas model or something different?

  • it's actually a tacoma pr12, based on the exact specs of a nick lucas and costs under a $1000

  • superb playing matey puts me to shame!!

  • *drools

  • Brings a tear to my eye ... the skill of young people today ... absolutely brilliant!

  • nice guitar

  • Not bad for a skinny white boy! ;+}

You got THE BLUES in your soul for sure...

"That boy done made a deal with the devil!"

Keep on pickin! May I please request Statesboro Blues??

  • That was good! You had another version on youtube where the a/v sync was off and it looked not real. I posted a bad comment but then deleted it after watching this. Good job!

  • Congratulation, and thanks for the good moment.

  • sweet ;-)

  • Nice syncopation. Hats off!

  • A real pleasure to hear you...On your all videos!

  • merci capitaine moto!

  • hey, I love your playing!!! This blind blake medley is especially great. I'm trying to teach it to myself. If you ever have the time to post a slowed down version of it for us beginners to learn from that would be awesome. Keep it up!

  • thanks, glad you enjoyed it, will try to find the time to post a slowed down version at some point.

  • You're very good :)

  • You play VERY well. I love this song. However, I spent about an hour looking for a song called "Blind Blake Rag" and the only one I found was Ralph McTell's version which is very different from this. Is this song actually called Blake's Breakdown or am I missing something?

  • i guess it's actually a composite of a couple blind blake numbers from "blind arthur's breakdown" to "southern rag" with a bit of "west coast rag" thrown in for good measure...

    glad you liked it.

  • What Can I add ? Great Stuff

  • yeow....great

  • I enjoyed it....cute guitar! I'd like one.

    --- B.Blake fan

  • V Nice, thanks for posting this one. : )

  • Nice job! Thanks for re-posting this sync'd version.

  • Wow, that's some fancy picking and thumbwork, bravo!

  • Great playing very intricate

  • Luv it...Thank you...BLind Blake was the man !

  • Fabulous playing, Cory.

  • thanks mentor

  • am much obliged you have responded to my request. a true gentleman and scholar. for you im sure this type of rag is probabaly how you say, very fluent, second natured(if not your bodily expressions sure had me fooled). never the less im captivated. just hope that you to are obliged that im about to study the shit out of ths video. much thanks- rexious

  • This is beautiful stuff - sounds like Blind Arthur's Breakdown...very nice touch and sound...I have a particular version of the West Coast Blues and some other stuff I'd love for you to check out...

  • So fluent, you don't disappoint :p

  • By the way, in all your guitar videos your guitars sound very "round" and warm and un-metallic. Is it caused by the microphone/camera or is it the natural sound of your guitars?

  • well, the guitar does have a warm, round sound (it's the same specs as a gibson nick lucas, with the same woods used and everything), but i do think some of it also has to do with the cheap mic in the camera!!

  • Awesome picking! And the sound is just right!

  • beautiful playing coco, thanks for posting :)

why did you remove those great videos? :(

  • hi peglegsam, we're going to start a dedicated "groanbox" youtube page that is a bit more streamlined and not jumbled up with my solos. i'll keep you posted. thanks for asking.

  • awesome..very nice
