  • @savanahrachele You can do something similar for sure. Did you see Cat Deely on So You Think You Can Dance last night? And have you seen Ilovegerardo's Elizabeth Taylor hairstyle? They both have very long hair.

  • Love the hairstyle, instructions also! Beautifully done.

  • I was wondering if you could do a video on the hair Rosalie Hale wears in her Flashback in the movie Eclipes, it is also a vintage hairstyle. If would help me out a lot because im planning on doing that hair for hollaween and i would love it by then, but when ever you can is good. thanks so much! Your hair looks great in this one btw.

  • you know whats also cute to do with bangs? instead of small sponge rollers i pin curled my bangs to give me the kiss bang on both sides of my head i loved it :) thx for this video! it helped tremendously :)

  • I love seeing the baby heads pop into frame <3

  • I'd *love* to see you do more tutorials from the book!

  • I love the Reto Hairstyles , So glad to see someone else Like them too.

  • I'm only just seeing this! Brilliant

  • Omgsh you really look like the women from the the 30's! :D Gorgeous...How can I make a 30's hair style with my long hair? My hair is down to almost my waist..

  • @Zacatecana91 women in the 30's didnt have long hair but you could try doing this faux bob

  • Thank you so much for doing these tutorials!! xoxo They are the most helpful videos I have ever seen and believe me dahling, it's nice to learn a trick or two. <3

  • You saved my life!!! I'm in a hair & makeup competiton tonight and I knew this was the look I wanted, but couldn't get it right with all my practice....to think it was this simple the whole time. Guess I over thunk it...lol. Tried it your way and it took me no time. Thank You soo much for your help.

  • This turned out great! I've been using rollers for about a year now, and I think some of your technique will help improve my looks. By the way, this might seem odd to say, but I think you have a really pretty profile.

  • @mirluinwen thanks! I'm glad you were able to learn something from this video...the black and white makes it difficult to see the details, I know. :(

  • THAT IS AWESOME! I love the way that turned out! I don't normally really do up my hair but I SO want to try this!!!!

  • I love this hairstyle! thanks lisa!

  • Thanks so much for your videos! I've been experimenting with pin curls for a while now, but I've always had trouble with knowing where to place them and how to brush them out!

  • absolutely love it !!!

  • I just set my hair and I'm going to try out this baby tomorrow morning! And this video has convinced me that Lauren's book is a "must!"

  • OMG! This is probably one of my favourites.

I wish my technique was better. I need to practise more. I've done this kind of things a few times just from trial and error, and it works, but not this well.

  • Thank very much for this video : the technique is exactly what my hair needed and the result was stunning !

But it look much better on you ;-)

  • yay i am soo glad i found your videos love them thanks and love u too ur pics at the end look soo cute

  • You look like SUCH a starlet in the smiling pictures at the end! Wow, this looks so simple, I MUST get my hair cut finally and try this!!

  • Simply wonderful!!!

  • Now I'm really sorry that I cut my hair.. lol. Ah well, it'll grow out again.

I know I've said it before but that liner looks so fierce on you!

  • I adore your tutorials!

The pictures at the end are stunning!

  • Great tutorial. I actually like the room you did this in, its easier to see what you are doing.

I'm defiantly going ti buy this book.

A+ for using sponge rollers to create this AUTHENTISIMO look!

  • I was literally just wishing there was a tutorial exactly like this just this morning! I bought this lovely blue felt 1930's hat recently and pictured it with this exact style. FABULOUS!!! Thank you.

  • super cute i love it! <3 :D

  • You look absolutly darling!! This style is really flatering on you. I shall put in my rollers tonight!

  • i enjoy ALL ur videos :) u were the one who actually inspired me to start experimenting with my hair! thank u thank u thank u!

  • i love ur hair n makeup tutorials.

    :)

i think u were born in the wrong time :)

u look u were made for the 40s n the whole pinup deal :)

    great job!

although i wish i could most of the stuffu do but my hair is wayyy to long :( but i still love it ¦)

  • this is a darling style on you!

  • Very cool I will try this soon! However the black and white made it harder to see.

  • Yes, I realize that. As I mentioned in the disclaimer I attatched, this video was really more about following the book's instructions and the results so the b&w was an artistic approach to that. I don't plan to post any of my own tutorials in b&w , especially when details are involved. Thanks!

  • Great hair video! You look great! I love the black and white too! :)

  • hey i know a different way to make hair curly =) if you are interested

  • Is this from a different Lauren Rennels pinup hair book. I have what I thought was the only book of hers on the subject, but mine has a completely different cover photo. Was there a sequel, and nobody told me?

  • This is from the 2nd edition and yes, it does contain some more things that weren't in the original book. I did a review on the book and will post it as a video response.

  • You look adorable in this!!! I and you make it look so simple! I'm going to have to get out my foam rollers and try :)

  • In the absence of Layrite, what else could substitute? My husband uses a goo on his flat top, but the container doesn't say "pomade". Think it might work kind that same? Ordering the Layrite, btw.

  • I havent had good success w/ other'shine enhancing/ defrizzing' products. It either makes my hair look oily or impossible to manage...when I run out of Layrite I don't both putting anything in it. haha.

  • Off the subject, but your hallway looks rather creepy this video. I can't stop looking at it. I feel like someone is going to pop out and scream Boo or something! haha Anyways I love you videos. Great tutorial. I am going to try this soon.

  • i think you need to make your passion into a career/business, ms.lisa :)

  • i meant ashley.. *ahem*

  • I want to so badly...not sure how. I would need to go to school to get liscensed and right now, it's just not possible. :(

  • Maybe start writing your own tutorial book? Tutes from the 30's to the 50's! I would buy that! Maybe it could come with a dvd, too..? Just an idea :)

  • I would love to do something like that...haha. If I could just figure out a way to not have to put any money in it whatsoever. LOL

  • I did a review on it recently...I posted the links in the sidebar...there are actually several place you can buy it. The review is called "Vintage Hairstyling book Review' or something like that. :)

  • Alright you've convinced me - I'm buying the book.

  • Super tutorial, I have been fighting with this style, but I combed it out in one time.

Next time I will comb it out section by section

  • *slapping your hand* Gotta follow the instructions, dearie! LOL

  • Sorry, I won't do it again and follow all the instructions properly

  • hee hee...*in my best charm school teacher voice* 'See that you do!'

  • Doh! Right after I 'slapped your hand', Lauren sent me a sweet email and notified me that I didnt follow directions *exactly* either...how embarassing! I'm so going to post an annotation.

  • Well I'm glad I'm not the only person not following strictly the directions LOL

  • I love the 30s hair, makeup and fashion.

  • What brand pomade do you use? :) This hairstyle is VERY cute!!

  • Layrite all the way! See my review in my product reviews playlist...:)

  • I love love love this book I got it for my birthday from my brother. Doesn't he have good taste? Then again, I may have persuaded him a little. =)

  • Indeed he do. :)

  • perfect! i am trying to be betty boop for halloween... i think this will do. thank you for reading my mind! :)

  • i actually use this hairstyle as an "updo" for me. cause i get sick of wearing my hair down and a pony tail never includes the layers that frame my face/ chin length. so i also just pin my long layers up and wear my hair like a bob :) tis such a cute style

  • Gorgeous! You're right it's very Myrna Loy, love her!

  • Goodness, Ashley! That was great! I felt like I was watching a 1930's starlet do her hair.....LOVE it!

  • i think this is also one of my fav.s.

  • i'm going to get my hair done soon!!!

the one time i attempted to do pin curls i slept in them and it was the best sleep ever! i don't know why, i just slept amazingly!

    thanks for your videos!

  • Yeah I love this hairstyle! Could you do a tutorial on fingerwaves sometime too?

  • AHH! That looks SO CUTE!

    :)

  • oh my word! i love it! i get so excited when you post a new video lol

  • I received my book through the post last week (very very exciting) and this was in my top 5 to try...yay!...now when I'm doing it horribly wrong I can refer to you and get myself back on the straight and narrow!

  • this is just lovely!

  • Very nice! I think I am going to have my hubby get me the book as part of my x-mas presents. I lost my job and he lost all of his overtime, so money is tight right now...but for x-mas...I could see that. hee hee

And I am SO happy you are back to the 30's 40's and 50's looks. I just cannot get into anything past around 1960 or so. IMO that is when it all went downhill. Movies, cars, clothes, hair, music...all of it.

  • hear hear!! *slapping table*

  • It looks so good on you, I love it.

I really hope you'll do a finger wave too, the technique is sort of a mistery for me... I read about it and tried to do it myself but it just doesn't work..

  • My mommy just bought me some wave clamps. So perhaps soon. :)

  • This is adorable!

  • I love it, is so cute, so girly. I'm reading the book these days and I really like it, though some of the instructions seem like too much hard work for me... but it is sooooooo interesting to find out how all this pretty styles are and were done!

  • oh i loooove your tutorials! i have a 50's party soon and i'm really looking forward to it^^ I'm also saving for a curling iron, i'm a total curling-iron-noob so i wondered if you had any recommandations (that are not toooo expensive!)? thanks in advance!

  • Very, VERY cute! Even though I'm more of a 40's girl myself, this is a 30's look I wouldn't mind trying out.

    Great tutorial! :) xo

  • Love it! I'm getting more and more excited about my book coming in the mail soon! Thank you for all the work you put into these videos. You do an excellent job.

  • I actually did this style yesterday and it came out super frizzy, le sigh... I didn't comb the curls one at a time, I think that is what did it.

But the book is so freakin' awesome, I love it :)

  • lol...'le sigh...le purr...le meow'

    Try again, darling!

  • lovely! and suits you!you look pretty with that bob!

  • As much as the black and white is cute, it makes it harder to see the details in your hair. Cute style though. :)

  • Yes I know...thus the disclaimer. I was trying to be 'artsy' but there is a reason I don't do b & w tutorials much. Thanks!

  • Love it! I'm currently looking into buying Lauren's book (it looks fantastic!) and it's all because I've heard about it from you. :) This is just the sweetest look too. Brava!

  • Wow, I'm really impressed! Very authentic! I think this hair is the prettiest that you have ever shown us and it matches your face perfectly.

Is the song you used by Ella Fitzgerald? It kind of gives me christmas feelings :)

  • Yes, 'They Can't Take that Away From Me' by Ella...

  • when i saw this, i SO thought myrna loy!! i love her. great look.

  • Thanks!

  • Favorited!

  • Thanks so much! I was afraid people would be turned off my the black and white coloring. I'm getting used to my new set up...at least it's as good as my bathroom was. :)

  • Loved the look, but I found it hard to see what you're actually doing. The lighting was ok, but the contrast of black and white isn't high enough.

    Still a great video though.

  • Yes I understand, which is why I talked through it in instead of title cards only. During the area that I did the title cards, the actual process is not as important. Ah well, I'm working on it.
