I completely disagree with you, I have seen Opeth live after watershed and he can growl just fine, there is less effects inthe voice now is what you mean. but again, cool opinion man. its just different points of view, I love Opeth because of their musicality, I love the "Damnation" album also, there is not a single growl in it. take it for what it is, prog death metal. do you like Dream Theater? I love them, their music is amazing.

Ok you like the engineered voices, not the natural ones. same thing happens with a lot of other bads, the engineered growls usually get replaced by the natural growl of the singer, this happens in a lot of levels in metal from slipknot to Emperor, from Meshuggah to Opeth, there is always engineering in the voice, only there is less of it in later albums usually.

Some people think that because popular music is so bad that the second any band starts to get any recognition they say that they have sold out. the same thing happened to Mastodon with Crack The Skye which is in my opinion a serious contender for '09 album of the year (in my opinion). There is something, not right with the light setup, makes both Mikael and Fredrik look wierd, and also the sound of the guitars (despite the awesome playing) sounds wierd.
