  • Aww poor alex this break my heart

  • Thank you for your post. This was taken 2yrs ago and I'm happy to report that Alex is 4.5yrs old now and doing GREAT!!! Thank you for your comment.

  • poor baby I hope he is doing well right now :(

  • nagmalitongyawa it's attitudes like yours that bring comfort to people like me. I watched as my late husband went through 4 of these. Each time it was the calmness and kindness of the medical staff that made it bearable!

  • I am very pleased to know that this video has helped on your path toward being an MD! Thank you for sharing this with me. To think that Alex's struggles helped someone become a better Dr makes our path easier. All the best to you in your studies. Happy Holidays

  • I am a medical student and our module as of this moment is a hypocellular bone marrow. Seeing this video gives me motivation to exhaust all my efforts in learning as much as I can so I could really be of use to families who undergo these things. Hats off to you. You posting this video did a lot of good in one way or another.

  • How is he asleepp, when his legs move ?

  • I am a 48 yr old man having this done in a week. A bit scary to be certain.

  • that boy is real brave ... I'd never be able to do that

  • Hummm- Having a needle slid into the vein of your arm or a corkscrew going into the bone of your pelvis (because they actually take a sample)... I'll let the public decide which they feel gives more discomfort.

  • Thank you all for your comments on Alex's procedure. Drilling into the bone and pulling out a slice is NOT fun, but Alex is a champ! Alex is 2yrs post transplant now and doing very well. God bless!!

  • Poor Alex :( how is he now ? I pray his doing well in life bless his heart xxx

  • God bless your little Alex. I am glad he is doing well. May you and your son be forever filled with life, love and happiness!! You are in my prayers. Thanks for posting.

  • This is the way it should be done, little patients like this possibly having to undergo this several times during treatment of their ailments, should always be sleeping for this proceedure, as they do not get as traumatised, picture perfect, and as little as possible "scary" to the little patient... good job

  • Thank you for your encouragement! I put off the biopsy for a couple weeks bc I wanted to get away from the city to relax and spend time with my family.. My labs are still pretty messed up- low wbc, rbc, & platelets and high mcv... As well, due to the steroids, I have severe osteoporosis and we are a *little* nervous about doing the bm biopsy bc it has a small chance of causing a fracture...

How is Alex doing these days? Your family is still in my prayers <3

  • LOL love how they bring up Michael Jackson when they talk about Propofol.

  • Fear does not know age!! God be with you and I hope you get good results from your test! Post again and let us know how it was for you! It's a mountain that must be climbed over and you CAN do it! Hugs and prayers!!

  • I wish I could be completely asleep for my upcoming bone marrow biopsy! I'm terrified of having it but the dr says I need one. I had spinal taps but those were a breeze in comparison to how this looks.... But if a little guy like Alex can do it- so can a big girl who is 29! Thank you for making this video. It helps me to understand what exactly it will be like... <3 hugs and prayers!

  • @CNDbutterflybabe i had a bone marrow biopsy a year and a half or so ago. the only thing i felt was the shot to numb the area. most of the people who do the procedure do it A LOT, and they are very skilled. i was a little sore for a day, but not bad (spent the weekend at the races even). take a friend for support (and pics) and just ask whoever is doing the procedure to talk to you honestly. it helps. i found my fear was much greater than the actual experience. good luck to you.

  • @CNDbutterflybabe im paying for you<3 i hope all goes well(: stay stong

  • Alex is asleep- put in a deep sleep, but not parilized. They put him in a deep sleep and then they put in the local- that is where he jumped because even in his sleep he felt that... but he doesn't remember it. They say even in the OR your body feels the pain that your mind does not remember but you are parilized. The beeping is the heart monitor and the monitor for his o2 stats. He was monitored very closely. Alex is 2yrs post transplant in June and doing great!!

  • Even though he is asleep, why does he still move at times? And what does the loud beeping mean? What does each bone marrow t looking thing mean(color)?

  • i thought u said he was asleep? then y is he twitching?

  • that's intense. looks like the doc is trying to unscrew a cork from ur son. makes me feel like donating blood now

  • hi im 29 years old and a mother of 3 and i might need a biopsy to and i watched the video of ur soon and im gonna donate bone marrow if mine is ok,but im so happy to hear ur son is ok

  • It's good to see that those who are carrying out this procedure drapped the patient properly to maintain their dignity. To many times patients are not treated with the respect they deserve, especially children.

  • medecine is great!

  • Alex is doing GREAT! He's almost two years post transplant and running around like a wild 3.5yr old. This was only a snap shot on a time line. It's been worth it. Please consider giving blood or signing up to be a marrow donor. It saves lives... lives like Alexander's

  • Awww what a poor child =[. Hope he was okaay after this. x

  • i thought that he was asleep but when they were giving him the shot he movied.

  • yes thank goodness he was sleep i had that procedure done and can be the most painful thing

  • Yes! Please join the registry. Alex got his match through it and it saved his life!! Give blood too.. Also saves lifes (he's had 23 transfusions) Wishing you all the best in the New Year!!

    Alex's mom -d

  • Wow I want to join the registry! To be able to maybe save a life....joyous!!!

  • I agree that it comes with risks, but what ever the child is facing poses a greater risk then the procedure. I would never have this done as an elective- but when it's med necessary, then it's necessary. Thank you for your comment! Please give blood and/or join the bone marrow reg. It saves lives!!! :-)

  • Thank you for the video. This procedure comes with risks. Parents have to sign a consent form.

  • He doesn't feel it so much.

  • Hi.. This is Alex's mom. My prayers for your son. The procedure isn't to bad. I mean, it's bad enough, but Alex has had three of them and they put him to sleep and after, they put on a presure band aid that I take off the next day. He really does pretty well. Prayers for your son and your family. Thanks for your comments. - deanna

  • My son is getting one of these in the morning.. he is only 15 months. Thank you for this video, My wife and I have a better understanding and have more of an idea of what to be expecting.

  • Very hard to understand what there saying,

  • Alexander's donor was 19, still a teenager.. We owe his life to her! Please join the marrow registery and/or give blood when/if you can. It is a life line to someone with Alex's condition. Thanks for your comment. God bless ;-) alex's mom

  • Thank God. God bless. Goddamnit lol. It is the donors who should recieve all the credit.

  • This is Alex's Mom. God Bless you for being a blood donor! Don't knock it! It really does SAVE LIVES!! Alex would have never made it to transplant without people like you! In his first two years, he received 28 blood transfusions and 11 platelet transfusions. Maybe he got some of yours. Thank you for posting -d

  • Thank god he is doing fine. :)

I only have the guts to donate blood..

But God bless any bone marrow doners out there.

  • I am on the national donor list, havent been contacted yet,i hope i do.Everyone needs to sign up for this.

  • Hi.. Alexander's mom here. Thank God for people like you who would donate to save a life. We hope to meet Alex's donor some day! Thank you for your comment. Alex is doing really well now. 278 days post transplant! Take the best of care! -d

  • ABSOLUTELY! I am too :)

  • Poor thing hope hes better

  • Hi.. This is Alex's mom.. Thank you for your comment. Alex is 165 days post transplant now and doing very well. He had a bone marrow disease and the transplant from a doner we don't even know saved his life. Please consider being a marrow or blood doner. It saves lives. You can join the national bone marrow registery for free I think through Dec... so please pass it along. Happy Post Thanksgiving!! Deanna

  • Bless his heart, I really hope this works. He is such a sweet, loveable little fellow. I love you Alex. Grandma
