how much did you buy this gun for??? I found a 1940 147 mauser for sale $200 with 350 8mm rounds....looks like good condition. The guy says its a sniper rifle, there are 4 holes on the receiver to hold a scope. this a good buy???? thanks!
I have an M38 8x57mm and a 1895 7x57mm and get all the ammunition I want at Gander Mountain........I have a Model 1889 7.65x53mm Im just getting back together and have found ammo only on gunbroker.
Nearly everywhere, because this weapon is so popular. Today in Germany modified actions are in use as hunting rifles. An the caliber is still 8x57 IS because of its good punch against boar.
I have a k98 as well.. I was scared at first to shoot my 70 year old rifle as well.. but from this video i can tell you enjoyed it as well..im sure by now you have figured out how she shoots.. now from one mauser owner to another do you notice at anything under 100 yards she shoots about 6inches high? Im pretty sure its not me and my friend who shoots thinks its due to the front sight. but who knows.. i had to addjust thewindage on it to get it to shoot straight but shes shootin high still..
You'll find that you will need to adjust the sights at the bench before doing any plinking. Typically when I load up a new milsurp rifle it either shoots 3"-9" high, left, right, or down or some combination, but *never* on.
have the same rifle made 1940

I believe the 147 code was for the Sauer factory.

@StealthyTyler0425 That's a very good price Tyler, especially with the ammo. Go for it, before someone else does!

My k98 shoots 6 inches to low on 100 meters...But when I adjusted the sights to 200 meters I hit in the middle as well.

Old military rifles are all sighted high. To fix that problem, you'll have to either buy a new front sight or aim lower :P.
