It takes a master musician/wordsmith who can take ghetto blues and turn it into a spiritual revelation...MUCH respect to Terry Callier...Charles Stepney, you are genius, point-blank...
I like how you have used this song with the movie Legend with Tom Cruise and Mia Sara. I worked on this movie that was made at Pinewood Studios. One of my favorite tracks of Terry's. I have been to see him many times in the UK. Most notably at the Jazz Cafe.
Agree with "kool poppa." Met Terry many years ago in Detroit. Great guy. Glad that some of you younger folks are becoming hip to him. May I also suggest the brilliant and beautiful "Dancing Girl," as written by the genius Jimmy Webb and sung by the late, great Richard Harris?
I heard this track many many years ago. Never seen or heard of the film, yet the author of the clip has done an absolute masterpiece by uniting the two. If only he could arrange with Terry Callier's Label and the flim producers to release this as Track I am very sure it would sell in the Millions.
pure and beautiful and so deserving so much more than he hasent recieved....i hope with all my heart he feels the love i hold and i freely admit to softening my soul and careing more about people and feelings....this man i owe all this..
i bought this album in 1973 while in high school and I have Terry's signature on it from a concert in London 4 years ago. It is one of my all time fave songs but this film footage is not doing a thing for me
I would become a fan of Terri Callier around the same time. I recall just how his music moved me as a pre-teen. Today, I have more gray than Mr. Callier; his music movers me more -- even now.
I can't believe this song is actually 36 years old. It was recorded in 1973. I first heard this song in 2000 after listening to it I said to my brother "I have just listened to the best underated song of all time." Pure genius and I still get goosflesh everytime I hear it.

I was so searching for this last night...
I'd forgotten you had shared this delightful song and film clip with us all...
I am literally enchanted on every viewing and listening... : )))

Beautiful track... agree it sounds like Nina Simone.
Shame we have to see Tom's Cruise (pre-) obsessive Scientologist face in the video.

Amazing! This is so beautiful! Calliers
voice and this video! Is the vid from a movie?

This man is cosmic. Pure love from his heart.
I have to thank Gilles Peterson who used to play Callier tunes back on the Kiss FM days.
As Callier is an original american Folk singer, this video is an excellent choice. Well done

Terry is magnificent. So are Charles Stephney's always incomporable arrangements.
Terry + Charles = Magic. Ditto when you add Minnie Riperton to the mix :)
R.I.P. Charles Stephney. You are missed. Mx

I am stunned.
First heard this song 6 or 7 yrs ago and I got an immediate minds eye picture- gypsy girl dancing around a camp fire in a shaded woodland clearing.
The song to me is all about drugs and prostitution and a girl forced to sell her soul.
Could have been set in a seedy NY brothel.
Yet it is both sordid and beautiful at the same time.
A masterpiece.
A nymph like girl cavorting in the woods and then dancing with the devil..
Unreal.
'Cos I had already seen it...........

Wonderful tune.
Based I believe on Charlie Parker's heroin addiction.
