INDIGNANTE. ME REPUGNA.
Heh, interesting comment below on "deforming" other artists work.
I think before we judge something like that, we should remember that reinterpretation is and have always been part of art throughout history - be it in music, painting or poetry.
If someone is interested in contemporary but classical authors I suggest you STEFANO SEMPRINI's SONATAS FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO - that are now edited by ArsMusica Edizioni (Rome). You can easily check them on the official website and on internet!
Dont worry, I have already played this Caprice. (in a normal violin, the original version and without a band helping me).
There are some very good violinists like Samvel Yervinyan that really have great skills and does not play only calssical music music.
But there are also people like Vanessa mae or Edvin marton that are far from being really strong violinists and stupid people think that they are the real deal
fitte6 you are an idiot if you think Vanessa "dumbed down" the orginal piece because she couldn't handle it. She is twice the musician you'll ever be and she is one of teh best violinists in teh world, so keep keep your trashy comments to yourself.
This sucks ass as Cartman would say. This is possibly the worst version I ever heard, wonder why she had a band back her up and drown her out during the left hand pizzicato. (is it just me or does she leave out all the actually technically demanding passages in her exploitative and dumbed down "versions" of popular classical tunes?) As Classical music, it is vapid trash. As Pop music, it is pretentious nonsense.
why why why does it sound like cats singing??? kudos for trying to make it 'modern', but personally i wouldn't turn Paganini's music into something fit for pub/clubhouse - it just doesn't work.
@AlexeySankoPosada Yes, actually i am. I actually play the violin, and train under a VIOLINISt who got taught by Josef Gingold, and who lives with a famous concert master who trained under a famous belgian violinist called Arthur Grumiaux, and who is also chosen to be one of the top national teachers. AND yes, i play nothing but classical music, and i actually prefer BAROQUE music if you even know what that is. Go learnt he violina nd you will find this video a offense and bad.
@ericgable oh, who are you trying to impress, a jury? A VIOLOINIST who got taught by Josef Gingold.. oh, and that faamous concert master is?? Let's suppose for a moment all of these achievements are true. For the sake of it, WHO are you? as i see it, you are neither a recognized violinist, NOR a great musical mind. If you were half of what you say you are, and had half of the knowledge passed on by these great teachers, you would know how to appreciate the work of a fellow violinist.
@ericgable Even more if it is something as revolutionary as mixing the famous classical work of any famous composer. I sense you are kind of jealous.. maybe, if you are the musician you say you are, you are a FAILURE, and the success of a violinist on doing such work just pisses you off. Yes I know what BAROQUE music is, I am son of two musicians, but, unlike you, I don't feel the need to brag about my accomplishments or my musical studies.. a pice of advice, learn how to write.
and have a little of musical taste.. being so narrow minded and idiotic with your "grand" musical talent and taste will only bring you trouble. It's great that someone has the guts to mix something as great as it is classical music with rock. that's called innovation. Plus, I see HER playing at a stage many other famouse classical pieces and they are great, do YOU get to play in that kind of stages? or dou you keep playing at your mom's basement or in a pathetic family reunion.
You, you pathetic excuse of a musician, go and hang yourself just for thinking that YOU can judge something like this.. IF you don't like what you see, just close the window and move on with your life.. these kind of comments are trash and won't change the fact that SHE is the one playing wonderfull music and innovating, and you, well, don't.
@AlexeySankoPosada You are so pathetic, lol you make me laugh. What about you make yourself look as bad as vennessa Mae does on this performace. This is total failure, changing a top classical piece into trash. And such kid come backs, which really didnt make sense... Your just a loser who doesnt know music when you hear it.. and In my opinion you can go burn in hell because i really feel sorry for you. Oh and learn the violin, i swear you kids watch these videos but dont even know how to
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@AlexeySankoPosada Play a darn scale for crying out loud. I can judge this pathetic playing of mixed rock and crap and she played it under tempo..how un-violinist like. Paganini would smack you and Venessa mae. Ha dont even bother to reply, your long paragraphs are such a waste to read and i'll probably just end up deleting them. Good luck with your life, loll you need allt he help you can get
@ericgable How is it possible that someone who can not write properly claims to be an expert when it comes to music???? Go and learn how to write and then learn about music. It seems to me you have a lot to learn!!!
You will need all the help you can get, but maybe you''ll be smarter then your professors, you know it all!
WTF? Only 48 thumbs down? It sounded__ horrible. This was extremely crap playing and arrangement. She skips the difficult parts, plays it in a very slow tempo and is on playback to boot. Any violinist who plays in an orchestra can breeze through this spectacle. "fantastic thing about good music" would be to play it up to its worth. If Paganini lived, he would stub her with his bow after listening this - if he could get through the gay tap dancers that is.
I don't "watch" her videos. I watch QUALITY video of some of the pro violinists that I went to school with. I clicked on it and simply feel that she would be better liked in Bangkok.
wow. Such mature comments. If you don't like it quit coming back to reply. It reveals your desperately lonely existanceto waste your time with comebacks to responses ona videoyou don't even like.
You assume that I hate you or any music you may find enjoyable. I enjoy most music. There's very little music I don't appreciate. I've come to realize that music is an expression of our souls and should be seen as such. Rather than mocked and criticized because it's not to your taste.
It looks like I'm not the only one that notice some "sour notes". My music minister told me that the audience does not know if you mess up on the notes.
the audience doesn't realize what they just heard. The fusion of Paganini with rock is incredible daring from someone who is only 1 of a handful in the world capable of this, and she took it to a new level indeed. Wow is all i can say.
@brother234 True, they seem somewhat dumbfounded by the experimental nature of some of the harmonics too. And it is a bloody complex arrangement to boot, some argentinian tango even, at 3:25 then..PLOP Classic/jazz at about 3:45 wow..just wow..
Incredible. Even if she didn't play the original version she still played a great piece of music. As a fellow violinist I know how hard this is. Vanessa BRAVO!
she ruined a gorgeous piece, not to mention she missed more than a couple notes. this goes to show that pieces such as these should be played properly and not to be meddled with. theres a reason as to why these pieces are so timeless and that is because they are beautiful just the way they were originally written. this modern "twist" just didn't work at all.
although she did mess up on some parts I still believe this to be an excellent performance I think she did Paganini well well it doe sound a little bit to modern but it still sound brilliant
no matter what notes she messed up (i'm not really sure if there are many people qual. enough to say which she did and didn't) It was still well done and beautiful, as are many of her pieces. Its not a matter of perfection its a matter of beauty, music is written and played to sound beautiful, shes in concert for god's sake, meaning its pretty dang good. lol
@KailaNight Even Heifetz, Kreisler, Sarasate, and Paganini messed up notes in concert; it's part of the game of playing a non fretted instrument live. Personally, I like this rendition a lot because it takes my favorite composer and makes it new and fresh. Also, I love the Castlevania-esque feel at 2:56. :P
no me gusta en absoluto no me prece que haga nada del otro mundo tecnicamente y ademas creo que hace añicos una tremenda pieza de clasica.. no es serio..
WOW she is so AMAZING i just want to cry. i love it when women can rock the house and ignite my soul on fire. she is a ROCK STAR in my book. ROCK on sister girl. watch out SHAKIRA hear comes VANESSA MAE.
To tazman1066: That's the kind of thinking that will prevent this generation of musicians from having a future, you're rejecting the electric violin because it has a different unique sound. That's pretty closed-minded, and I don't think Paganini would approve.
It's certainly something that can draw someone other than stuck up music snobs ;) Seriously, music is here to be enjoyed by everyone. So it's the realm where saying 'live and let live' couldn't be any more true.
V. Mae have great talent but, I don't think this song is her best, it's like combining modern and classic thing but not going too well, , It's like ordinary song not a really special. .So, I guess V. Mae could be more better than this , ,
I won't be as vocal as hellomate639, but it IS a bit of a shame how careless V-M can be about her phrasing and pitch when she plays live - especially when she feels entitled to jump around during the simple bits... very bad idea.
I mean, if you want to convey great music to the masses, no matter how tonedeaf those masses are - you still have to concentrate on what you play and on HOW you play it - for the sake of your masters... otherwise it really IS "f##king blasphemy" rather than a homage...
This video makes me feel like I'm watching this chick rip Paganini's heart of of his chest, and then putting it on a plate and eating it, while saying that Paganini likes it.
How would you feel if you watched a loved one killed in front of your eyes? That's how I feel when I watch this.
Then dont watch it silly. You have a lot of hate that could probably be used more productively then telling everyone on this site how much you hate V.Mae...so shoo.
Well disliked perhaps, which is all the more reason why I'd ignore the fact that the 'someone' had even done so in the first place.
I looked up the Heifetz you suggested. It certainly sounded better but to me it is still too chaotic and a bit like nails on a chalkboard really. Especially Heifetz version. The only bit i like is the beginning.
And of course its just a cover, i dont think V.Mae writes any of her own stuff (I think?).
i dont really see where all of your antipathy is coming from. i like the song, although it's nothing like the original, it's creative how she remixed it. i appreciate that. so i'll say it again I LIKE THE SONG
This is one of the greatest works by a great composer. To compose works like this, one needs tens of thousands of hours of effort put into musical and compositional skills.
No one does that anymore to compose. The practice is old and subsequently sacred. To add in electronic sounds and call it an improvement is absolutely disgusting.
People poured their souls into understanding music enough to create thigns like this.
Literally thousands of years have gone into making classical music into what it is.
Pythagoras discovered the musical scale almost 2500 years ago. Since then, composers, bards, and other musically oriented people have been perfecting the art of the relationship between tones.
Anyone who likes this has little ability to understand music.
This rendition of the piece is akin to taking a 100 year old whisky and then pouring grape soda into it.
well maybe some people like grape soda and whiskey, if you can get the analogy. it's two separate categories. the beautiful classical era and NOW, where artists tend to twist classical songs. it's not like she eradicated the original, she just made another. love it or hate it; but i still respect her audacity and creativity with all the aspects she put in the song
You see, when you put grape soda in 100 year old whisky, you destroy the essence of the whisky. One who would put grape soda in 100 year old whisky would not be able to appreciate the complex flavors of the whisky and all the history that it represents.
Clearly, no one who watches this appreciates the essence of the song itself.
I'm almost certain V. Mae did this to gain popularity amongst people who have no taste, rather than express herself.
sure, if i liked the taste of soda and 100 yr old whiskey. why not? try something. and she didn't jst add a electronic sound, she added dance elements, and other instruments, a different rhythm. and if you'd really shoot yourself before adding an electric sound into a classical piece, then you have some serious issues. I plan to own a electric violin and play the song like this right after i've learned the original. For Christs sake, ACCEPT THE DAMN SONG! what is so bad about it!
and who said anything about hip hop? i sense no hip hop whatsoever. at least know your genres. The twist she adds is something all her own, it's like jazz or swing. and it doesn't 'shred any meaning as a classical piece'
considering the fact that i'm Black, and that you don't have the balls, consideration, or i don't know, maybe a little open mindedness means you have the mindset of your common KKK member. power to the People.
i know what you said, i'm saying that YOU have that mindset. like it has to be one way, and that way only. everything else is wrong. did you ever give this song a chance? i didn't like it at first, i had to listen to it a few times and figure out all of it's aspects; what i liked and what i didn't like. but i didn't just degrade the song and V Mae because it's not like the original
This is like putting up a disco ball in a Gothic cathedral in the middle of a sermon. Its aweful, its like paving over great music with cheap, modern, and overly simple crap.
It COVERS the piece. You probably only like this because the original piece is good. Try looking up Heifetz playing caprice 24. Maybe after that, you'll get why I hate this so much...

The most funny thing is that she makes faces like "Look how great I am" LOL, you are a fucking joke.
Underheifetz 1 year ago
This is horrible.
For stupid people that have never played violin and know absolutely about music this is probably the most awesome thing they have ever heard.
But the reality is that this absolutely sucks, first of all the beginning. It sound really horrible in an electric violin.
Also why in all the difficult passages she has a band behind her playing very loud exactly the same as she is playing?
About the left pizz stuff I wont even talk
Underheifetz 1 year ago
@Underheifetz Really? You play it then.
Tralman1965 1 year ago
@Tralman1965

She is twice the musician you'll ever be and she is one of teh best violinists in teh world, so keep keep your trashy comments to yourself.
akatski394 1 year ago
This sucks ass as Cartman would say. This is possibly the worst version I ever heard, wonder why she had a band back her up and drown her out during the left hand pizzicato. (is it just me or does she leave out all the actually technically demanding passages in her exploitative and dumbed down "versions" of popular classical tunes?) As Classical music, it is vapid trash. As Pop music, it is pretentious nonsense.

Go learnt he violina nd you will find this video a offense and bad.
ericgable 1 year ago
@ericgable oh, who are you trying to impress, a jury? A VIOLOINIST who got taught by Josef Gingold.. oh, and that faamous concert master is?? Let's suppose for a moment all of these achievements are true. For the sake of it, WHO are you? as i see it, you are neither a recognized violinist, NOR a great musical mind. If you were half of what you say you are, and had half of the knowledge passed on by these great teachers, you would know how to appreciate the work of a fellow violinist.
AlexeySankoPosada 1 year ago

AlexeySankoPosada 1 year ago
You, you pathetic excuse of a musician, go and hang yourself just for thinking that YOU can judge something like this.. If Paganini lived, he would stub her with his bow after listening this - if he could get through the gay tap dancers that is.

she ruined a gorgeous piece, not to mention she missed more than a couple notes. this goes to show that pieces such as these should be played properly and not to be meddled with. theres a reason as to why these pieces are so timeless and that is because they are beautiful just the way they were originally written. this modern "twist" just didn't work at all.

no matter what notes she messed up (i'm not really sure if there are many people qual. enough to say which she did and didn't) It was still well done and beautiful, as are many of her pieces. @KailaNight Even Heifetz, Kreisler, Sarasate, and Paganini messed up notes in concert; it's part of the game of playing a non fretted instrument live. tazman1066 2 years ago
To tazman1066: That's the kind of thinking that will prevent this generation of musicians from having a future, you're rejecting the electric violin because it has a different unique sound. That's pretty closed-minded, and I don't think Paganini would approve.
jourdy288 2 years ago 7
@tazman1066 But music is free, all that produces good sound is music, while the bad sound is noise. The E.violin produces music, not noise.

CeCuekz 2 years ago 2
I won't be as vocal as hellomate639, but it IS a bit of a shame how careless V-M can be about her phrasing and pitch when she plays live - especially when she feels entitled to jump around during the simple bits... very bad idea.
I mean, if you want to convey great music to the masses, no matter how tonedeaf those masses are - you still have to concentrate on what you play and on HOW you play it - for the sake of your masters... otherwise it really IS "f##king blasphemy" rather than a homage...

So yeah, we get it...you hate it. Move on.

EquestrianOtome 2 years ago
It's an insult to classical music.
People poured their souls into understanding music enough to create thigns like this.
hellomate639 2 years ago
Literally thousands of years have gone into making classical music into what it is.
Pythagoras discovered the musical scale almost 2500 years ago. Since then, composers, bards, and other musically oriented people have been perfecting the art of the relationship between tones.
Anyone who likes this has little ability to understand music.
This rendition of the piece is akin to taking a 100 year old whisky and then pouring grape soda into it.
hellomate639 2 years ago
well maybe some people like grape soda and whiskey, if you can get the analogy. it's two separate categories. the beautiful classical era and NOW, where artists tend to twist classical songs. it's not like she eradicated the original, she just made another. love it or hate it; but i still respect her audacity and creativity with all the aspects she put in the song
EquestrianOtome 2 years ago
You see, when you put grape soda in 100 year old whisky, you destroy the essence of the whisky. One who would put grape soda in 100 year old whisky would not be able to appreciate the complex flavors of the whisky and all the history that it represents.
Clearly, no one who watches this appreciates the essence of the song itself.
I'm almost certain V. Mae did this to gain popularity amongst people who have no taste, rather than express herself.
hellomate639 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
So, you'd actually pour grape soda into a 100 year old whisky?
One possibility for me is concert pianist, by the way.
This is cheap. Anyone can put electronic sounds into classical music. Few ever do because it sounds so horrible.
It's not as good as hip-hop, and it totally shreds any meaning as a classical piece.
This isn't creative at all. She simply threw some electronic sounds into a classical piece, something I couldn't do because I'd shoot myself first.
hellomate639 2 years ago
sure, if i liked the taste of soda and 100 yr old whiskey. why not? try something. and she didn't jst add a electronic sound, she added dance elements, and other instruments, a different rhythm. and if you'd really shoot yourself before adding an electric sound into a classical piece, then you have some serious issues. I plan to own a electric violin and play the song like this right after i've learned the original. For Christs sake, ACCEPT THE DAMN SONG! what is so bad about it!
EquestrianOtome 2 years ago
and who said anything about hip hop? i sense no hip hop whatsoever. at least know your genres. The twist she adds is something all her own, it's like jazz or swing. and it doesn't 'shred any meaning as a classical piece'
EquestrianOtome 2 years ago 2
