I believe this was a Phonotopia recording -- their engineering was excellent. Giraldoni, like many of the greatest singers, is singing ON THE BREATH. Hence, the carrying power, freedom and "snarl."
Why is it .....old time singers like this....have a special kind of sound.....a "nasty wild animal sound".....today baritones have a more "fabricated or artificial" sound....this "nasty" quality gives a manhood quality to the voice....
"...the first Scarpia in Puccini's Tosca..." Hearing him is a thrilling for several reasons - wonderful voice; terrific technique; as well as historical signifigance! a great treat!
This is singing. No one touches this technique and the voice is HUGE! Rumble in the low register and ringing top!!!! I would love to hear this voice in the house!!!!! B R A V O!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why do people usually hide great talent? because they shine too brightly in comparison with established stars. "I will make more money if I don't sing than if I sing". (I'm not talking about Giraldoni specifically.)
Eccellente sia musicalmente sia vocalmente.
Grazie mille per farcelo ascoltare.

@bajobaritonoAH do you mean 'squillo'? That carrying vibration? It's cuz old time singers trained to sing without microphones...

Fantastic performance and voice! One thing you hear in the old-timers is an integrated use of head and chest resonance.

One of the best baritones I've ever heard! Is there any more recording of this great baritone? Where to find his recordings?
