I remember how they used this song in the movie, and besides the obvious reference in the movie, I think it also serves as a metaphor that Secratariat was a Christ-like or God-like figures among horses; the Babe Ruth of horse racing, if you will.
I saw it the first time and it was 1 of those movies that cautivate you , real life drama with a finish that dont seem to be real but fiction,,,,,and what a beautiful gospel song, Great to watch here the actual action that day in 1973,,,,,,,, what a HAPPY DAY indeed !!!
Secretariat was one if the best race horses of all time. Someday he's the best but that shows they have not met Man O War. He is the greatest of all time!! Many say its a tie but it's not it's very close though. Secretariat was an amazing race horse but when he got his foot invected Which was not not long after his win at the triple crown, he never won another race and shortly died. That means that at the Belmont he gave it all he had and had an outstanding performance but he only raced two m
@trosselit He won the Triple Crown when he was three. He died at nineteen. That's not shortly afterwards. And he won many races after that; not all of them, but he still won many. Get your facts straight before you post.
And no offence, but I don't think even Man 'O War could have beaten Secretariat on the day of the Belmont.
@trosselit Where are getting these facts may I ask? He did win after the Belmont, look up his last race in Canada, look up the Marlboro Stakes where he ran sub 2:25 for the mile and a half, on GRASS, no horse has ever gone under 2:25, he did it twice. He did NOT give it all he had in the Belmont, he was hand ridden the entire race, no telling what he could have run if he were pushed, please do not post about Big Red unless you know the facts sir.
one years ago two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to see if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said "Get the kids and get out of the house, we'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue". The "clown statue" was actually a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on 10 videos tonight the clown will be in your bed at 3:00am with a chainsaw in his hand.
@XxHeelsDownxX I've seen it 4 or 5 times now and I cry like a baby every time. My dog thinks there is something terribly wrong and licks me and throws himself on me. What a great story! Horses rule! And people who truly love horses are special. ;-)
I have never in my entire life watched a movie that thrilled me from the moment this beautiful horse was born. My daughterinlaws grandmother was priviledged to actually see Secretariat win several races in person including the Triple Crown..what a treasured memory she held until she passed away many years ago...God Bless them both....
This movie was excellent. What a great family!!! They stuck together and made it work. Flying back and forth, managing her home, family, and racing schedule was a team effort and I'm so glad the movie showed that!!!

eh he was decent. Looks like a good move, but they make him seem like such a longshot. He was set up to win from the start. Seabiscuit was the greatest longshot. Man O' War was "the mostest hoss that eva was"
@Wolfguurl He was SET up to win from the start? Do you know anything about the history of Secretariat? He lost the race before the Derby and was doubted big time, come to find out he was ill and the owner wanted him to run despite it. No one gets set up to win the triple crown, it must be earned, if it was as easy as you infer, why haven't we had one in 33 years? He was DECENT? My Gosh, do your homework!
@mstrunn Can't believe they said that about this being all set up.. LOL If it had been, the investors would have been lined up around the block. This amazing horse EARNED every bit of the Triple Crown, finishing the Belmont with such an overwhelming lead that to this day no one has ever come close. Anything can happen in these races, nothing is 'set up'.
God - I am in love with this movie - how inspiring! Go Big Red!!! The GREAT Secretariat is all I can say.....thank you, Penny! For believing in this beautiful animal and giving him the freedom to "run his race" and boy, did he.

He died at the age of 19 from laminitis. He was 3 when he ran the Triple crown races. Thats not "shortly after".
