@TheMahabally depends on how much you're making but for a standard 25 litre its usually around the 1Kg mark I also like to add a sugar item with some flavour in it aswell so it permeates through the beer.

@guptah81 You can experiment using dry malt extract to replace some of the sugar, or add some hops. If you are getting a nasty aftertaste then there may have been some bacteria infecting the brew
@mayen67 I wouldnt recommend it. Always use a sterilising solution before brewing to kill any bacteria. If you dont then the bacteria could turn your alcohol into vinegar.
Is it alright if you don't have a lid for the fermentation bucket if not would cling film be ok to cover it?

@guptah81 why not try using dark brown sugar? or dry spray malt? even honey, i have just done a brew with brown and honey i cant wait to try it
