My soul is rocked....... THank you so much for posting these. Ive heard MH for the first time and I get that feeling of being blasted on all levels; just what I needed! Comes close to a "god" experience where I feel something from beyond. Deep, deep chords and rhythm, spellbound.
I saw this guy live 3 times. They were magical moments of wonder and awe... disbelief, really. I felt like he had somehow transcended the normal limitations put on humans and guitars. Its a beautiful thought to think I might see Michael again. If there is a heaven, I feel sure he must be there. Where else would he be? I hope to make it to that beautiful hippie camp in the sky too.
Put a guitar in my hand it's a guitar. The same piece of wood, metal and glue in Michael's hand is a cosmic orchestra of timbres and harmonics and pounding, throbbing fundamentals. I think God summoned him to play for the royal court.
michael hedges will always be the man, but our new michael hedges ( no offence) is erik mongrain i think , just listen to raindigger, pandora's box , equilibrium , eons illusion, airtap . hedges was his niche , like he said.
Try to imagine Hedges going about his daily business, without a guitar in his hands. I can't man. Something would seem very wrong if he was without guitar.
When people go from hot to cold pools they often experience a letting go of the tight restrictions their own minds and past conditionings they live in. Cycling gets you freed up to be fully in the present moment with all the clinging and static from the past gone. I call it instant enlightement not zombieism.
The first harmonic note of the song is really powerful... I would like to take the guitar and learn this song, but I play the bass so I can just listen, and of course love the song and who wrote it. Thanks Michael.
im convinced the movie'' August Rush''was totally Based off his Guitar Style & Approach''good movie''gets a little far fetched though on the ending''like most holly wood movies''
I was lucky enough to meet him a few months before he passed.... very genuine and approachable. While my friend took our picture he said "Pretend we're old friends".... guess I looked nervous. Wonderful spirit he had.
this seems to me, quite a sad tune. almost depressing yet terribly addictive. it trully is a musical mastepiece. but then, most of his songs are. definitely missed.
Hey! I'm from Germany and my English is quiet bad so could somebody try to explain to me what he's saying at the beginning? I'm just able to understand some fragments... thx!
Should I give them the Harbin rap? Should I give them a Harbin rap? They might think I'm too wierd. (talking to self ...
uncertain of whether to continue,,,) YEAH! I live in California ... Some of you guessed that ... When I was going there for the first time, which was in the junior year of highschool, people were signing my yearbooks and telling me, generally,
the message that, California was the place where I belonged. "See ya later, you'll have a great time there, we're sure
I did. and finally, after going to school on the East coast, uh, I moved back there, and I started going to
this hot springs ... just north of Calistoga... and the hot pool there, which comes right out of the ground at 120 (F)... ( that's the first minute or so ........ He's talking about Harbin hot springs .... harbin org ... just north of Calistoga Ca)
He tells a little story about his visits to a hot spring. He would dip himself in hot water, then cold, then hot, etc. And eventually he would hallucinate.
One time, he saw two parts of himself -- his 'hippy' side, and his 'yuppie' side -- walk into the woods together and become friends. (Yuppie basically means .. conventional/business-like)
So he wrote this song about that experience. Maybe not true. But amusing, definitely :D
i'm kind of new to the whole michael hedges deal, but i really like it and when i ask this question please disregard my username, it was made years ago, i've obviously grown up more to use names such as acidphreak420 (freak with a "p" like the hippy band phish if you didn't notice lol)...
the story hedges mentions before this beautiful song...
i had heard he never really used drugs from someone whose modeled his life from age 3 after this guy....true story? he didnt (& i didnt say never) use?
Hedges did smoke weed....smelled like a wheelbarrow full of lit joints on the "Watching My Life Go By" tour. You could get high just standing near him.
hello i just wanted to tell you sorry i accidentally gave your comment a thumbs down (my mouse is whack), i was trying to give it a thumbs up because it is a great comment, this man was great and it's a shame that he had to go... bozie666 your comment is incredibly eloquent and haunting, as well as this song is.
if its true this man has pasted to whre ever it is we go well i hope hes on the other side waiting forme because when i die all i wanna hear is this man playing you are the best man may your soul be free my man keep it real you are one of the gods of the guitar
Absolutely amazing. Michael is an exceptional human being, as well as musician. He inspires me musically infintely more than any other musician, even from the place where his soul now rests.
One of the best live performers in the history of music. And the most beloved. I was lucky to see him twice... once at the Rose Gardens In Oregon, and the next was the last time he ever played for us.....He died the next day..... My favorite of all artists...... a sad day for all when he left us.....
thank you so much. i was lucky enough to hear this twice live. i think he does this with Michael Manring on the artist profile video. i like the solo version way better.
this track is amazing, im gunna learn it once i get another a string, which snapped whilst tuning it back up from the india tuning, something like AEBDEA haha
21th century artists have much to learn from Michael's stage speeches. :)

right on, if there was ever a musician who was one with his instrument, Hedges would be it.
Passion has been redefined, Hedges is the author...

I love his work. Every song has these moody, otherworldly sounding melodies that I seem to look for in music and find so little of.
