Love these batons, but god dammit you had better be serious about using it if you bring that baby out. These things do NOT want to go back in after they come out!
excellent. i was hoping there was something like this available (baton/flashlight). now that i know there is, i'll be getting one. thanks for doing this review.
Just got a military surplus ASP baton for $30 (shipping makes it $40). Slight rust on the tip (no blood, though) but after a little WD40, functions as new. Price sure beats the $60-80 elsewhere.
My question is, do you have an opinion or suggestion on ASP 21" 4140 carbon steel (black chrome) , 21" Airweight F21A version or 21" Duratech Airweight F21DA version, Iam undecided, could use your opinion. Thanks
I had something like that, but it didn't have that kind of grip. I had one that came out to be 36" long, and when collapsed, or put away, was only 10" long. I loved that thing to death, till it was confiscated.
great review. im big on defendinf my self and i think the bation is one of the best self defence weapons on the market. im going to be 18 in a few weeks and im going to pick some of these up
I thought these had a shocking function where you hit someone and it not only hits but shocks them paralyzed. Guess that's just the movies or something else I saw.
@JacobStocker10 On duty it pretty much stays on my belt waiting for someone to mess up. Sometimes I poke things with it if I cant reach it. Off duty it stays either in my truck or in with my fiance.
I always have a question about batons like this. I heard from others that you can use this baton to jab one someone hard on their thigh. Does this not collapse the baton when you do that?
P.S. Sorry if this question sounded stupid but I've never own a baton so I don't know
@MrQuackism If it was extended properly it would definitely not collapse against a thigh. You could also use the grip end to hit with or use against pressure points as well. Good question.
@usmcboyer But it doesn't make sense, if you said it won't collapse if you extend properly, how does officers collapse their baton after they use for their business?
@MrQuackism If you have never used one, take my word for it. You need to hit it directly on the tip on a very solid surface with a good amount of force for it to collapse. A leg is not solid enough to collapse it, nor is it likely that you would hit directly on the tip. I assure you it would not collapse in the situation you presented
Yeah, it's funny watching guys try to close them for the first time in training... they don't want to break them so go easy and nothing happens, or it only collapses the first section. Even the second try doesn't work sometimes. You just have to get it into your head to slam the thing down pretty much as hard as you can.
I extended mine in a mall once and had to walk out to the parking lot in order to close it... would've shattered the tile for sure.
@MrQuackism The baton really isn't most effectively used as a "jabbing" weapon anyway. The way most police and military are trained to use it is in a downward slashing motion. We collapse it by pointing it straight at the ground (on concrete or hard surface) and slamming it downward.
Generally jabs are used in the closed position on the solar plexus as a means to move someone back before extending the baton. No, it won't close on soft tissue. In order to break the friction loc, it needs to experience hig frequency shock... as in hitting a very hard surface. (It's more the vibration than the actual pushing force that breaks the loc.)
Awesome video bro. Honestly the best video out there I have seen for the ASP baton. Others are simply "its great, buy it", but you broke it down. ASP should be paying you for this video. lol
i gotta say, THE best review i have seen on an ASP baton.... great vid. but one thing, the 31 inch verson is not available anymore. i am getting both a mondanock and an asp baton tomorrow both 21inch models... but i am really wanting a chrome 16inch ASP for carry. i have to ask are you a LEO? you definately know what you are talking about and it is great to find people that are not just blowing smoke keep the good vids comin and i definately subbed!
@silentknight2112 Glad you liked the video brother. I know the ASP is not made in 31" anymore but there are a few places you can still find it so I figured I would mention it (I should have noted that, I will annotate). I am not not LE, but active duty MIL working with State Department, so I have a lot of training with them.
@usmcboyer that is true.. it can be found but is seldom.. and if you dont mind (not asking to break OPSEC or anything like that but you wouldnt happen to be an MP would you?) dont have to answer.. i totally respect that but i was wondering because i am hoping to become one in the NEAR future and i was wondering if you had any words of advice? and if your not an MP or not willing to divulge that info thats fine too. thanks and have a great day!
@Eslamizar Nice. I have to say, I think that my second favorite attachment after the light would be a spike. It is pretty brutal. It is put out by third party (not ASP brand) and I have seen them on ebay for just a few dollars. I am considering getting one for my duty baton

If i remember correctly, isn't it actually 95 lumens? 240 is quite a lot!
globemc2 8 months ago
@globemc2
Mini Mags (LED) are extremely bright, and they are only 69 lumens. I can't see this thing being 240.

@divine0enigma
You're never supposed to use a downward motion... it's supposed to be lateral so it connects firmly and doesn't deflect.
