Just put the water damaged phone in a bag of rice. The rice will absorb all the moisture and revive the iPhone. I've done it COUNTLESS times to the same exact phone and it worked every time.

its not alcohol or it's need to by at least 70~100% is posible 100% or you can just use aceton instad and tooth brush.

When I take off the back of my phone it has this little tab that's sticking out from under the battery, it says "Authorized Service Provider Only" - I think it's holding the battery in place and I don't want push it too much 'cause I don't wanna muck up the phone. I think I'll just give this method a miss - I was told at a phone repair shop that I could have the motherboard replaced for about 300$, will this solve my problem completely if I have that done?

I've heard that putting your phone in rice, soaks up the water and your phone will work again. I haven't done it myself, but I know others that have and they said it actually worked.

Also you never want to reassemble your phone even in the same day after performing water damage repair, let it dry out 2-3 days, 30-45 minutes is far too early to do so as some liquid may be left over and cause more problems later

I put my iPhone 4 inside a bag of rice as soon as it came out of the water. Left it for 4 days and it seems to be working perfectly even battery is normal. Try that if ur iPhone goes in to water. Also works with iPods ;)

@rohitaustinmini it will depend on the degree of corrosion eg. 'the little wires' that connect the components to the main board have corroded through, nearly or not. If nearly or not you may be in luck. If you can see the corrosion is thick and furry then you are wasting your time. If corrosion looks patchy, flat/thin and a pale color not dark blue or dark green, than too you may be in luck.

Corrosion is like cancer, you have to remove it or it will keep growing and eventually kill your device.

@IzaacPhire it's possible depending on how bad the corrosion is and if it's actually eaten away the solder connections or flex cable ends. Take it apart to see how bad the corrosion really is.

One thing you may want to add to this video ... Scrub the flex connectors as well if you had the corrosion like what i saw on that board it will cause problems if you don't.

An excellent guide, easy to follow. Upon removing the plates protecting the chips I discovered corrosion bridging a capacitor & adjacent component at the bottom of the motherboard. I cleaned this corrosion away & cleaned the rest of the motherboard. The phone now turns on whilst connected to a charger but instantly dies when the cable is disconnected. The battery itself is fine as I tried it in a different phone. It's as if power cannot get from the battery to the mobo. Any thoughts on this?

@MangoMaggerz You should get some iRevive to clean the board before it corrodes! One way we have fixed that flash problem before (seen it 3 times) was to go to the camera app, turn the flash to ON and then take a couple pics. It seemed like doing this reset the circuit and then fixed the problem.

I tested to remove the logic board and just brush on it WITHOUT the irevive and then put it all back and then it worked! The iphone had been in the washing machine and then i just put it in the iphone box for some weeks, because i thought that i couldnt fix it, until i saw this guide and test to just brush on the logic board and i never thought it would work but it did!

THIS IS WHAT YOU DO IF YOU ARE UNDER WARRANTY. You take it to those third party shops, they'll replace your water indicators for about $25. Go to apple and say your phone is acting funny. They will see there is no water damage by looking at the indicators. Brand new iphone fo u !
