  • My english teacher started to sing this song to me in front of my classmates. I was blushing!! So I decide to look up the song up and found the version with Carly Simon singing it but I prefer this version.

  • Hey, love your playing! i was wondering if you had the sheet music or chord chart for this song???

  • Thanks buljes101, I have only a version fron the "Jazz Fake Book"

  • very beautiful

  • Wonderful!

Here's a challenge... I once talked to David Raksin on the phone and confirmed that there was never a recording or a public performance of his title music to "The Big Combo" (1955). He put me in touch wiht an arranger in L.A. who was supposed to be preparing an arrangement of it, but as far as I know that never happened. Any chance the world will hear a nice jazz piano rendition of The Big Combo?

  • You sure have a nice touch and just the right tensions. Perfect.

  • Please post more! I can appreciate the artistry...

  • nice touch with the black and white.. very sexy

  • Very, very nice. A wonderful "escape" movie. If you liked it, watch the 1980 version of the movie "Somewhere in Time." Also a beautfiul theme song.

  • lovely...absolutely lovely

  • sei molto bravo.....continua cosi.....

  • Beautiful! I'm a jazz pianist, and once at a jazz piano camp, we had a guest conductor who decided to ask the name of the piano soloist. When I told him that my name is Laura, he immediately began singing. An interesting experience that I thought I'd share :)

  • Nice story Laura,thanks

  • This is wonderful... BUT... do you think you could come up with a version of Raksin's theme to "The Big Combo" (1955)? It is a wonderfully jazzy piece that is absolutely unrecorded and unplayed. A crime!

  • This, or a chart for his (David Raksin) follow-up "Slowly," would be great to have.

  • thx for this " chef d'oeuvre ' ! :)

  • what is tha model piano?

  • =) this one's smooth........

  • very calm and cool...yet wonderfully classy.

  • Sooo good!

  • Thanks Liza

  • ah...........jazz piano, so smooth and relaxing, feels like it's massaging my soul.

  • I concur!

  • @laurathebig I felt the same too! :D

  • Oeehh.. Sexy

  • very calming rendition thanks a million!!! wish you can upload more if you have spare time thank you!

You have a great talent, I think everyone will agree with me on this.

    Thank you.

  • que modelo de piano es?

  • Recuerda tanto a "Casablanca" "Tocala otra vez, Sam... Ingrid Bergmam a tu lado...

Molto Gentile :)

  • Le film s'ouvre sur cette phrase "I shall never forget the week-end Laura died " Film d'otto Preminguer avec Gene Tierney, cette musique me renvoie à ce film inoubliable. Je vous remercie. Pierre

  • Grazie Pierre :)

  • Very beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Alfonso, thanks, I will definitely take a look at them. Take care, be well, and again, thanks for posting this, I added this to my favorites.

  • You are the consummate pianist.

  • Wow, you play this fuggin amazingly! Added this to my favorites. Please keep up the good work!

  • Oh man!, why none makes a beautiful melody such like this with my name? ahaha. So great!, amazing! doubtless you're an outstanding player.

  • This is a fantastic performance. You play with great precision and skill, with your own personal twist, giving a unique and full sound. I can hear similarities too, things that will assuredly sound pleasant to the ear. All in all, a wonderful video. :P

  • thanks retardfabio

  • Your's is better than the other ... ;-) Wolf175

  • Its a winner

  • This is not the Oscar Peterson version. I'm sure of it because I listen to the song countless times.

Anyway, the way you play it is good. I love it even though the way it makes me feel is not strong enough to melt my heart. Ayhow, it is good. I'll give you a four out of five.

  • Hi micheniche....

by the way this is definitely my version... only a small bridge descendant at 1:43 - 1:50 and 2:49 - 2:54 which was also used by Oscar Peterson. Thanks for listen

  • Yes, I did noticed that. Do you have the score for this because I would love to play this song. =D

  • j'adore cette mélodie, magnifiquement interprétée,bravo, cette chanson a-t-elle été créée pour le film des années 50 du même nom ou a-t-elle été juste été utilisée dans la bande son du film ?

  • Meraviglioso, come al solito!

  • Another great classic played in your style. Timeless. Thank you.

  • beautifully played!

  • Another good one Alphonso - I especially liked what you did at 1:43 - 1:50 and the similar thing at the end where you took the melody and harmony down in whole tones - I hadn't heard that idea before.

    Doug

  • Hi Doug, yes I think was a version of Oscar Peterson but I am not sure. Thanks anyway :-)

  • Beautiful rendering, Alfonso. Like a master diamond cutter, your choices bring forth facets to showcase the stone without disturbing its properties. I don't

think it can be easy to be innovative while still maintaining the integrity of the composer's theme.

Perhaps because you yourself compose music, you approach interpretation with great respect and care for the standard. Thank you for keeping us so enthralled in your quiet way. Cheers, ~Terry in SoFL
