Let me tell you, your sound is professional, I will compere it to a Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans. Your music is unique, Im listening to your videos and still wondering why arent you famous?
My grandpa named my Aunt after this song. He was an awesome man, and I miss him. He'd always have the piano player play this song at his favorite restaurant. Well, this song is a beautiful one and it seems I can't ever listen to it without shedding a tear or two thinking of my awesome grandpa and how I wish he was here.
This song has haunted me from my youth long ago. I finally had to search so I could hear it again. This piano version is a wonderfully creative and inspiring version of that song. Thank you.
@petrumusic Hi Petru, this will be available in a few days, this is because I'm waiting for some US. licenses. However in Switzerland is now available on iTunes, Thanks for your support :-)
I love this song! This song reminds me of my dear grandfather, who was an excellent pianist! he used to play this song to me just because my name is Laura... it's a beautiful song!!!
@Bently100 I agree....it is a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song, with a beautiful movie with a beautiful woman as a source for it all...all in all
Ugh, I can't believe people actually 6 clicked "dislike". Wonderful stuff, one of my favourite tunes, with a gorgeous underlying harmonic structure. Beautiful tone and atmosphere PianistalItaliano. ;-)
ciao di New Jersey. Ho suonato questa conzone stastera. Mi piace molto la tua rendizione. I certainly hope I didn't make too many italian mistakes...ciao e a presto..Bob
My english teacher started to sing this song to me in front of my classmates. I was blushing!! So I decide to look up the song up and found the version with Carly Simon singing it but I prefer this version.
Here's a challenge... I once talked to David Raksin on the phone and confirmed that there was never a recording or a public performance of his title music to "The Big Combo" (1955). He put me in touch wiht an arranger in L.A. who was supposed to be preparing an arrangement of it, but as far as I know that never happened. Any chance the world will hear a nice jazz piano rendition of The Big Combo?
Beautiful! I'm a jazz pianist, and once at a jazz piano camp, we had a guest conductor who decided to ask the name of the piano soloist. When I told him that my name is Laura, he immediately began singing. An interesting experience that I thought I'd share :)
This is wonderful... BUT... do you think you could come up with a version of Raksin's theme to "The Big Combo" (1955)? It is a wonderfully jazzy piece that is absolutely unrecorded and unplayed. A crime!
Estoy escuchando "Laura".
Le film s'ouvre sur cette phrase "I shall never forget the week-end Laura died " Film d'otto Preminguer avec Gene Tierney, cette musique me renvoie à ce film inoubliable. Je vous remercie. Pierre
This is a fantastic performance. You play with great precision and skill, with your own personal twist, giving a unique and full sound. I can hear similarities too, things that will assuredly sound pleasant to the ear. All in all, a wonderful video. :P
This is not the Oscar Peterson version. I'm sure of it because I listen to the song countless times.
Anyway, the way you play it is good. I love it even though the way it makes me feel is not strong enough to melt my heart. Ayhow, it is good. I'll give you a four out of five.
by the way this is definitely my version... only a small bridge descendant at 1:43 - 1:50 and 2:49 - 2:54 which was also used by Oscar Peterson. Thanks for listen
j'adore cette mélodie, magnifiquement interprétée,bravo, cette chanson a-t-elle été créée pour le film des années 50 du même nom ou a-t-elle été juste été utilisée dans la bande son du film ?
Another good one Alphonso - I especially liked what you did at 1:43 - 1:50 and the similar thing at the end where you took the melody and harmony down in whole tones - I hadn't heard that idea before.
Beautiful rendering, Alfonso. Like a master diamond cutter, your choices bring forth facets to showcase the stone without disturbing its properties. I don't
think it can be easy to be innovative while still maintaining the integrity of the composer's theme.
Perhaps because you yourself compose music, you approach interpretation with great respect and care for the standard. Thank you for keeping us so enthralled in your quiet way. Cheers, ~Terry in SoFL
I've listened to others on YouTube play their version of this song, and this is by far the best! Way more emotion.
