  • how far can u go till recharge

and what do u do if theres noplace to plug it in

or noone will let you charge of there line

i do like what u have done to save gas and the air if only every one would try as harde to do somthing as you have done but people like it easy

  • Owning a electric car, do you still have to pay for air an smog pass on your dmv renewal?

  • @rob92376

Negative - - the registration says "electric" so there is no air pollution test. In BC, you can select the type of engine/motor.

  • An electric should recharge 5 different way: plugging, rooftop pv, accelerating, decelerating and through the shock absorbers.

  • search for Instructables TV Vol. 1

  • spacemonkey you like sniffy petrol huh? i guess its cheaper than weed.

  • uhm we need extension cords and ugh, more extension cords as you can see

  • put solar in the back of the tuck

  • How can you revive Nimh battery's then ?? or lithium ion?

    :O

  • Yes on NIMH. Lithiums have a battery management chip that has to be defeated first, like the "inkjet refilling" business.

  • how do you revieve your batteries?

  • Do you have specifics on how the conversion is done? What type of electric motor, what type of transmission is used, and if a standard (manual) transmission is possible? How powerful does the electric motor need to be for each 100 lbs of vehicle weight? I don't need a speed demon, but want something that can get out of it's own way. Batteries aside, how much is the power plant and drive train setup??

  • You need a retractable extension cord reel and a foldable "Caution: Watch Your Step" sign.

  • What about battery replacement costs?

  • This is the REVIVED BATTERY electric pickup. Cost of acquiring discarded (dead) batteries was nil. So, the "replacement cost" will again be zero. We've driven it now for over 15 months, and only one (the 12 volt auxiliary battery) has been replaced. Two of the 120V pack have developed a slow discharge (leaking electrically) but are still in use.

The BATTERY REVIVAL method is listed and offered to anyone, check out the story in the TV newsclips, too, CBC Newsworld and Global TV.

  • just a small detail

you DONT want to run extension cables across a footpath to recharge an EV , because people will trip and sue you ;)

in the near future charge points will be available in parking lots so it will be only a short cable length and we wont get that problem.

EV's are cheap to insure so far , but keep liability in mind to maintain it that way

  • Thx, but no one has tripped yet. We've had the cord out a thousand times, not a single problem.

  • but by getting electricity from someone elses outlet is like stealing right? :D

  • Here's a real life anecdote: My Montague ebike was out of juice, so I entered a Radio Shack store at a strip plaza, and asked the manager. He said, "no" because I'd have to charge the bike inside his store, muddy and all. However, three people at the store overheard the conversation, and practically twisted the manager's arm to reverse his "no" to a "yes, no problem."

  • No need to steal -- those of us who have actually done this have very positive experiences with people, even gas station attendants. After all, every electric car and electric bike owner is a hero in the eyes of most people. Almost no one has refused a request to charge, especially when you offer a quarter for charging.

  • Here's another anecdote: At one movie house, the manager said "yes" to two of us, both on ebikes, and actually escorted our bikes inside and plugged them in, himself. The only real negative in owning an electric vehicle is the amount of time you spend answering questions -- at one time, in Vancouver, that was an hour a day.

Other EV owners, please chime in.

  • Hehehe,I can vouch for that!

  • Only need an extension cord... and an inverter/DC to DC and 10 hours and about 20 mile range.

  • No infrastructure?? What do you think about every outlet you can find? ;-)

  • I think, you pull up infront of my house and plug into electricity that I'M paying for, your going to get beat within an inch of your life. Thats if there happens to be light, if its after dark, I shoot first, ask questions later.

  • heaven forbid someone steal .50$ out of your pocket. Shoot them!!

  • no kidding, (i know it's a year later but.....)

  • Oh, bun, bun, bun, polybun:

Notice that they ASK to be able to plug in -- not just roll up and do so. MOST human beings will be generous enough to say "Yes" to a 12c electrical bill. To be a good citizen and not overuse their priveleges, they offer to pay; those who feel that they should be compensated are well come to work out a deal.

Now, that's what happens among us human beings. Sub-humans, like you, on the other hand...

  • Why do I smell a potential revolution?

  • why do i smell bullshit?

  • Do the math. 1 gallon of gas = 33.5 KWH. Here in Washington State, 1 KWH = 7.1 cents. Electric motor = 95% efficient. Switching Regulators = 93% efficient.

Internal Combustion Engine = 20% efficient. Largest source of loss: Heating water and heating exhaust.

  • 30/7.1 cents = 4.23 kwh

    ice: 20% * 33.5kwh = 6.7kwh (1 gallon, 6.7kwh usable)

    electric: 95% * 4.23 = 4.02kwh

    6.70/4.02=1.67

for 30 cents you get the equivalent of 1.67 gallons of gas @ 20% burned.

    (is my math right?)

  • You need a controller for the electric motor. Also, you need to do the math the same for both sides.

    In WA, gas is $3.2o per gal. 30 cents gives you 0.30/3.20 * 33.5 * 20% = 1.57 kWh delivered to crankshaft.

    30/7.1 cents=4.23 kWh

    electric: 95% * 93% * 4.23kWh = 3.74 kWh

    delivered to crankshaft.

With equal fuel expenses ($0.30), electric will go 2.4 times further (3.74/1.57)

  • Dunno, maybe you need to wipe your upper lip.

  • Dunno where do you keep your nose? Poly buns?

    LOL

  • Huh?? We have no problem plugging into ordinary electric outlets everywhere we go. People (even gas station staff) said 'yes' when we asked them politely, if we could charge our electric pickup. So, in reality, "range" is not a problem at all.

  • our fuehrer and the rushie neocons insist that the war in the middle east for oil will be shown to be correct ... but the scientists are saying that our oil usage must be drastically reduced immediately ... and then to reduce it even more ... and to use renewables take it place ... i tell you it is a matter of contradictory views ... but i would bet with the scientists because they have the mathematics on their side ... i tell you ... science has replaced intuition with mathematics

  • If there is one and only law i have learned so far in life, it is this: Everything in excess is harmful. If everyone converted to electricity we'd be in trouble too. But I still think there's about 350million cars to convert before excess on the other side of the fence is too much ;)

  • There are only 12 licensed EV cars in BC. Down from over 40 five years ago. See the trend? Not an excess, is it?

  • I wonder what happened to the other 28 EVs
