  • Any one watching this from the OC? If so did you catch Bugs singing about the swallows making their annual return to San Juan Capistrano?

  • "I'm gonna catch me a rabbit, and I'm gonna cook him right on this pot! This pot right here! Yeah, yeah! Yeah, yeah! That's just what I'm gonna do!"

  • Bugs Bunny is not a racist; he is merely a cartoon character created by others & therefore is not real, but still I love his tenacity & humor. Remember his comment when the bull was messing with him? "He don't know me very well, do he?"

We can learn something from watching this. I've noticed that as an adult I cringe when I see how Native Americans are portrayed here. Today, we are more aware of the unfairness of stereotypes so these cartoons can be used to gauge how we've changed.

  • Also his people didnt live in tp's they lived in long houses, that what's wrong with white people is that they think all native's lived in tipi's, wear feather head dresses, and make that stupid :o woop woop noise like we are some Arab it's degrading and disgusting

  • I like bugs bunny and this toon, but as a native american and now knowing the real story of Hiawatha I dislike how they portrayed him as a fool. This toon isn't racist but degrading to him and his legend

    Good toon tho

  • Bugs Bunny was an asshole racist lol...

  • Hiawatha's feather is as big as he is.

  • My favorite part of the whole cartoon @ 3:53-4:48; that's what's missing with the Bugs in the Looney Tunes show on CN.

  • If I'm not mistaken this was the first time Friz Freleng directed a Bugs Bunny cartoon and the first time they use the "hot tub gag". It was nominated for an Academy Award in 1942.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I really didn't think this episode was racist when I was a kid. At least the Native American didn't speak stereotypical broken English like the Indian in "Feather In His Hare".

I also must admit, I loved the water escalator when I was a kid. That was cool. I wish that could happen in real life. :)

  • @Pikachuiscool I agree wholeheartedly. Hiawatha's voice here is actually based on Lon Cheney's performance of Lennie from the 1939 movie, "Of Mice and Men". But the fact that he's dumber than dirt may be why people would take offence to this cartoon. However, I do remember CN airing this on June Bugs once. (God, I miss that marathon. Wish they could do it again soon) Thankfully, I have that print too. ;)

Overall, it's an entertaining 'toon. Glad CN did the smart thing and aired these again.now.

  • @JSmithBlog I know what you mean. But I guess when CN was looking over all the "racist' episodes, they still kinda thought this one was necessary too. I guess just because it shows a Native American, they decided not to take chances. The other banned episodes I can understand. But I think this one was probaly the least racist out of all of them. :P

  • @Pikachuiscool That's true, there are worse. Much worse. Case and point, "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips".

Oh, and you're right. The water escalator was pretty funny. :D

  • @JSmithBlog Exactly. Nips the Nips was much more racist than this episode.

  • @JSmithBlog -- Visually, Hiawatha's facial design was actually a characture by Warners' artist Robert Givens of Disney animator Ward Kimball (who also was charactured three months later by his own studio in "The Nifty Ninties" as one of the vaudeville performers, so it's easy to match up and compare the two images).

  • @Pikachuiscool

Too, Hiawatha did get the last word on Bugs, in the form of a big sloppy kiss! Even Elmer never pulled that off.

  • they dont show this anymore

  • Hit the brakes.... @ 3.05 Bugs asks Hiawatha what he's having for dinner and Hiawatha is supposed to say: Rabbit Stew. Why was this censored????

  • This was also nominated for an Academy Award (which is why a portion of this was also seen in "What's Cookin', Doc?").

  • please answer is censored?

  • the way bugs sounds at the beginning reminds me of Potamus from Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • Notice how Friz and his animation team worked on Bugs' design in later years. Since this was his first cartoon featuring Warner's new star, the animation on Bugs is bound to be different, kinda like a Ben Hardaway/Cal Dalton cartoon.

  • Isnt it funny that the kids from this era/generation are the ones starting the wars today....NWO fucking propiganda

  • @jackburtonfan But not me I love old cartoons!

  • I'm Native American and I find this offensive...

But because I'm laughing so hard, I could give a rat's ass really xP

  • @WWOLFwts HAHAHA....ISN'T IT GREAT TO CONFORM TO THE WHITE MAN! HAHAHAHA

  • Anyone know the name of this song playing in the beginning and the end of this?

  • Part of this was used in 'What's cookin', Doc?' God bless! Hugs to ya, for postin' it!

  • How many tried getting in their baths like bugs bunny did? Lol I think i was like 5 yrs old and thought it was the funniest thing!

  • Great! Brings back good memories. Dutch age 53!!

  • 6:03- SUCKER!

    LOL!

  • watch at 3:55 the indians fist flashes white

  • lol this is a spoof of a little Hiawatha cartoon Disney did

  • I haven't seen this one since I was five, when it was on TNT's Wild World of Shorts!

  • Hey, Hiawatha did do better than his paleskin cousin Elmer, got the last word against Bugs Bunny! Native Americans have many legit complaints against Hollywood, but who could do better than that?!

  • "Oh, think you're pretty good, huh? Well, try this one!"

  • "I'm gonna catch me a rabbit, and I'm gonna cook him right on this pot. This pot, right here. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's just what I'm gonna do."

  • 3:34

    FAIL

  • Wasn't there another bugs bunny cartoon where the guy talked like that? He sounds really famliar.

  • @motherFUKKERmason I recall the bugs prototype had that southern drawl in Elmer's Candid Camera

  • lol claude u crazy !

  • 3:09 the indian guy sould say rabbit stew i cant tell the scene cut

  • Oh man i really miss this cartoon. Fare de well Hiawatha. Fare de well might warrior.

  • 4:29 ...hilarious!

  • bunch of wimps with thier politically correct crap

  • I love that Indian!

  • NOW THIS IS PURE ENTERTAINMENT!!

  • Bugs is the greatest, I'm sure this one has been pulled for not being "politically correct"

  • @rotsman19 Yeah, I've already boycotted Cartoon Network in my house because they vowed never to play a Speedy Gonzalez ever again. Remember they claimed it was considered racial profiling.
