  • even without mushrooms this is good

  • @Billrabatin You were fortunate to be there, and even more fortunate to have the interest and focus to remember what Steve was playing. Maybe because I am a drummer, I only remember that they were very good the night I saw them at Fillmore West, San Francisco. In fact, that and the '94 reunion concert were two of the best R&R concerts I've EVER seen, and I've been to a bunch. BTW, Winwood was still only, like, 18 in 1967, when you saw them. To be that good when you're that young is silly.

  • This song was done perfectly. I used to own the 45 RPM until recently. This version is even better than that.

  • Dave mason was HOT!!

  • Thanks for posting, I had always heard the Three Dog Night Live version, didn't even realize it was a Traffic song.

  • ty udor...fantastic classic vintage never ending....still going when all others fail..

  • @merlinthemystic

sorry i am a east german & many is forbidden here .. hope you can see what in germany forbidden ...

  • @merlinthemystic Jimmy Miller was as much a player as the group was because he transformed the studio into an instrument masterfully and brought it all up front where ya can't miss it. Mr Fantasy is where I took my first LSD trips. Couldn't ask for a better guide than that album.

  • What in the world is a shakkai?

  • 1 guy has HELL in his mind

  • This is such a groovy jam...

  • Stones thing here from "2000 Light Years from Home," but that probably wasn't written yet. Brian Jones wasn't on it, anyway.

  • God invented pot because he knew one day there would be a band like this.

  • sorry to all the anti- hip hop listeners but I bodied this sample. hopefully real soon it would be heard on your most hated rapper's LP/Mixtape

  • @Yungspliff Now, it's cool that hip-hop artists take such an interest in old-school songs, but I'm dying to know why they sample everything and don't just exert the effort to form a band and make a new song altogether. Is it because of the effort involved, or is there another reason to it?

  • @halo9449 in a nut shell? we like the sound. there some things that can't be duplicated with a band. not that we can't because its not the effort because it takes MORE effort to sample than it does to organize a group of musicians to interpolate. me personally i don't have such resources to construct a band but if i had to choose i would still use this record. but other producers like Kanye and Justice League have the means and budget to hire such people for usage. sorry, I rather pay "Traffic"

  • @Yungspliff Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. Now I understand it all a bit more. I still think it kicks ass that samplers bring older sounds to audiences from newer generations. Helps keep the music alive.

  • Classic!

  • it is heaven in peace in all times bluejay ...love the world ....

  • opinion....capaldi wood, winwood, and mason the TRUE trafffic

  • Such a cool song. It really kicks butt when turn up the subwoofer in the car...

  • I saw them perform this at stonybrook u. in '67 and Mason wasn't in the group yet, only wood and capaldi.Winwood did the solo on a pale green gibson firebird.(not a reverse firebird).

  • Heaven is in my mind... so I guess hell is in my butt.

  • @zkxv only if you have cranio-rectal inversion... : ) both reside in the same domain...

  • Perfect~

  • This song really carries me away to a place called ummm heaven, maybe if there is one.. hehe

  • one of the greatest bands EVER---and one of the best songs EVER!! :0)

  • great drummer Jim Capaldi RIP

  • JESUSSOLOVESUSALLAMEN.

  • SUPREMELY SUPREME SUPREMENESS

  • The one dislike on this song must've been dropped on his mind as a kid.

  • Does anyone know whether it's Winwood or Mason playing the solo here? 'Cos it sounds like Winwood, but a couple of reviews I've read claim it's Mason.

  • @RobPic914

    Dave Mason

  • Hell, yeah!!!! : )

  • At 1:30 a drum/bass groove gets going that is very much imitated in 'Golf Girl' by Caravan from the amazing 1971 album In the Land of Grey and Pink. Two of my very fav albums, check it out!

  • Wow RIGHT ON! I haven't heard this since I was approx 14! I TOTALLY forgot about this song, thank you!

  • I like this track - havn't heard it for years; is it on Last Exit? That's the only Traffic LP I have but I can't play it anymore.

  • @BadDad1950 this track is not on last exit. i've never heard a live version but would love to. i acually have a studio version of three dog night doing this! it's very three dog night-like.

  • @pinkus44 actually i just looked up traffic heaven is in your mind live and there is a version from11/18/1970 on youtube. it is pretty cool and i'm going to go back to it now, but you should check it out

  • great pics...thANKS...OUT OF ALL MY FAVORITE

  • water the flowers that grow out your ears

  • Winwood is the most underrated musician of rock's golden age.

  • @theatlantisrise maybe by you. I think he's the greatest of em all except for Tom Waits. and a few others.

  • Who the heck is that at 1:07?! Thought you'd pull a fast one on us didn't ya? LOL. "Well hey, these guys LOOK like Traffic!"

  • Steve Winwood is soooooo fine!

    Beautiful musician ...true warroir spirit!!!

    ~ilona sky

  • Thanks udor 1962, I haven't heard this Song in years!

I'm still Amazed by the musical ability of artists in the late 1960's to early 70''s.

Did you guys know Steve Winwood wrote the song "I'm a Man" for the Spencer Davis group when he was 14?

There was no AutoTone back then. hahaha

  • Haven't Really listened to the song in Years!

I'm eternally enamoured by the musical ability of the Artists in the late 60's early 70's.

  • from 3:10 on some of the finest sounding guitar rifs ever recorded. sweet

  • Pic at 1:03 looks contemporary

  • This tune takes me back to the happy hours of mine. Happy I was there to enjoy their live music and after gathering here in Budapest. They where terrific lads:-)))

  • This was one bad trip album on acid.

  • Wow - that stereo comes over well in this youtube recording.. Pretty amazing studio work. Quite a Robert Fripp sounding tune...

  • Thanks for posting this song!! I haven't heard it since I was 14 in 1974!

  • this song is so damn unique and brilliant.

  • Isn't this the cover to their final LP in 1974 . 7 years out

  • Why does this tune make me feel like I have been robbed over the last couple of decades?

  • Love this original version by traffic. three dog night did a fine job as well on this song!!!!

  • Love how winwood sings the broadway riff "we got music" at the last few seconds

  • oh how I loved this album ...great song

  • I wish someone would post Dealer... the one version I can find on youtube is from a very scratched vinyl.

  • i wanna be in a traffic jam..!!

  • Another fine British band that went on to make these slighly overlooked jazz tinged albums of brilliance, they sure did have the funk and soul!

  • Harmony? If there is one, thank god for my perfectly functioning ears! Thanks.

  • winwood guitar. great song so many fine albums, each a masterpeace in itself. a lifetime of magnificent works

  • very pure in spirit, not to mention great music and rhythms. Winwood's voice incredibly powerful. My great good fortune to see them perform back in the day.

  • You've just got to feel good listening to a Traffic song!

  • thanks for posting ... beautiful lyrics

  • What A Great Song!!! 5*s Thankyou....Anita...

  • didn't someone else record this?

  • @westrokker Three Dog Night made a hit single out of it. Good version but this is the one. Harmony you say. Damn!

  • that's right, thanks, forgot about that. I agree , always loved this song. good day!

  • THAT is music man!!!!!!!!!

  • .. was that Hendrix on the guitar? ..

  • @milkgodnl: Nah, just Dave Mason, another great from the era....who was friends with Hendrix by the way.

  • GREAT & SUPERFUNKY.THANKS.

  • My favorite Traffic song. I was lucky enough to see the reunion tour in '94, but unfortunately they didn't play this one then. Thanks for posting this classic!

  • i use to listen to this with my dad when we drive places and my cat sender just died and we would listen to this and i would always think of my dad and my cat when i heard this

  • dig that trippy chorus toward the end starting around 3:50.

  • just heard they got in the rock and roll hall of fame and decided i would listen to them for the first time O_O

  • Great video - Thanks!

  • A significant part of the beauty of this recording is its stereo mix. Too bad this posting is in mono.

  • Great comment.......it makes all the difference especially during the 3/4 timing and the outro

  • add a & fmt=18 at the end of the url hit enter to replay in stereo :-)

  • t/y very much for this tip

  • Not in my browser. Try using Safari, hitting that HQ button, or adding &fmt=18 to the url and reloading.

Actually, I wish Bill Laswell would do to this record what he did to portions of Miles DavIs' 'On the Corner'-eliminate the goofy panning.

  • The many contributions of Sir Steve Winwood.I got to see Blind Faith.Steve Winwood reminded me of when I saw Jimi Hendrix live...like they were from some other planet.I never got to see Cream so it was great when they played some Cream songs to.Winwood,Clapton and Baker...Great.

  • Am I right that the picture at 3.00 features: Jimi hendrix experience, Eric Burdon, the Move and of course Traffic. In the 60s there seemed to be a lot of cross rocking together ie Jim Morrison with Jimi at one point (unreleased songs).

  • @thatsthewayitgoes09: Yep. Isn't that an AWESOME photo. All the musicians in the different bands hanging out somewhere and having a laugh? I think that's John Mayall in the leather fringed jacket to the right.

  • you know, many prog fans dont know what "pretentious" means and quite frankly dont care.

Cool song btw. No pretense and all that XD 5/5

  • this song tis my traffic favorite song!!

  • progressive rock 1967 style. no pretense though, just remarkable songwriting and skillful playing and singing.

  • Well said. I agree 100%. Traffic is one of Britains greatest exports. Peace.

  • love them

  • TNX for ALL postings ;)

  • When tripping there is no other band better than this.

  • When I saw them in 1968 Winwwod sure looked tripped out and dreamy. Great concert. Dave Mason was gone. Just a three piece

Traffic was one of the best back then

  • Well, there's the Dead, dearie...

  • Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

  • Great song. Thanks for posting this.

  • My favorite Traffic song! R.I.P. Jim, Chris & Rebop. And thanks for posting this.

  • I Love this song, and such Great pictures! :)

  • Tune and a half...thanks so very very much for posting it !!!

  • Great band! ,its all there , like yesterday ...listen to that guitar 1967.....

  • when i was just a youngster, i only knew the three dog night version, and loved it then... but this is so much better... hard to beat winwood's voice

  • I remember the Three Dog Night version from Captured Live at the Forum. It was good, but it wasn't as good as Traffic's

  • man i love this song. prolly my fav song of all time.
