jw when they called russia the U.S.S.R & Soviet union did they still use the word Russia? or did that emerge after the cold war jw?

@deanmullen10 The Soviet Union was a union between many countries of which Russia was the largest. Stalin himself wasn't Russian. After the collpase of the Soviet Union, Russia and the other smaller countries became independent states. If people say 'Russia' when referring to the Soviet period they are usually making a lazy mistake in a similar way to if someone says 'England' when they are referring to the United Kingdom.
