The video is about the victory of the toyota over all sorts of odds, Its a celebration of the beast. I'm sorry you cried... that was the opposite of the intent.
@tommartyn just kidding, of course, I only cry at sappy movies. I just love Toyotas (I have 11 of them) and one is a 1980 Longbed pickup. Yours sure put up a fight. I suppose you've seen the later model pickup thrashed on Top Gear . . .'1994 TLC daily driver, 1974, 1977 and 1982 FJ-40s, 1985 (1), 1986 (3) and 1987 (2) 4Runners and the pickup.
@wpmacyt :) yeah, i've seen that. I saw it after we'd gone through all of this with this thing, and just thought, Yeah man, about time some one showed what they're capable of. Very awesome collection man! Right now i've only got 3, the township made me get rid of about 27 cars, but i've got 1976 Celica GT 20r 1983 PU Long Bed w 87 22r 1992 Geo Prizm 4A-FE i've had 81 2wd pu 5spd 89 corolla 82 corolla sr5 79 LB PU sr5 87 corolla dx? 83 tercel sr5 86 tercel 4x4 81 PU SR5 seemed like more. :(
Yep, it was breaking apart :) i was trying to see if it would break doing 4x4 burnouts, but it was running pretty bad because a bunch of mud sprayed into the gas tank, after i forgot to put the cap back on the one time.
mostly having fun more then problems. the ignition stuff was over 10 years old, so it didn't run on all the cylinders when everything got wet. didn't matter to us though :)
those older toyotas are tough as f*kk!!! after my 03 dodge ram broke down and got repo'ed, my dad sold me his old 84 toyota truck 4wd!! i've had it now for about 5 years and i drive it everyday, and it never ever seems to break down. in the past 5 years it's only needed a starter, and an alternator!! i drive and 4 wheel the shit out of that rig, and it's got 378,000 miles mostly high way miles, i havn't broken mine in half yet though. hahaha tough old toy otas.
damn your lucky my 87 aint got shit gas guage and mph is it and the crome package which is just bumbers trim and handle but most of that is rusted off now
It might not be too hard to find a gauge cluster with a tach in it at a junk yard. MIght even have all the wires for it installed, just no tach. I think that happens sometimes. to save money they wire them all the same pretty much
Yeah! this beast was an SR5, top of the line :) Came with the tach, FM Stereo, with a speaker in each door, instead of just on in the middle of the dash, Oil pressure, and Voltage gauges under the ashtray, Carpet, Bucket seats, Awesome toyota pinstriping on the outside, and possibly the styled rims too. They're not on it in the video. They're like a weird version of steel wagon wheels. Hub caps too. :) The works bassically. :) They didn't opt for the power steering tho
No, it was top of the line before it had 230,000+ miles on it, and sat rusting away for 10 years with the previous owner, eventually causing frame rot to the point where it broke in half within 2 years after we got it.
@tommartyn Regardless of what condition the truck was in when you got it, It could have been restored into a very valuable Toyota. Even in the videos of your abuse, there is very little visible rust on the truck, nothing that couldn't be repaired. Mine has 300,000 miles, and you don't see me proudly beating the shit out of it. Sitting out doesn't break frames...new steel can be welded in place. YOU broke the frame. Skilled trail riding is one thing...blatant abuse and neglect pisses me off.
This is so painfull to watch. I currently have a bone stock 79 4x4 I'm about to put a flatbed on for wood cutting. I also need to figure out how to fix the exhaust leak at the header (common problem?) any ideas? hilicoil (sp) I'd say barring rust, these trucks will run forever.
Sorry its painful to watch, but don't worry man, it had a full life of hard work :) The guy i got it from started and ran a landscape buisness for years with it. It never let him down.
I'm not sure if its a common problem, Thiking back on it, i think this toyota might have had a leak up at the manifold. But i think all my other 20R and 22R's don't leak. Absolutely, they would run forever if it weren't for rust :) Theres a manifold bolt stripped out in the head? Nah, no weed.
@theredneckpothead thanks man! But I can tell mine has pulled away from the head. The headers warp after a while. I might get an aftermarket or replace it with one off a 22r head I have in the basement. Keep smoking pot reneck! :)
we just started our 86 all stock rusty 4runner "red thing" 230,000 miles after it rested for about two years after the old battery died. shes shaky bc one of the cyl has been fuct since i bought it. today we cleaned up some metal on the starter. after new battery it started right up. now there a fuel leak right by the engine. its got some moss growing in the window trays in the back and big old dry tires. i got mine also for 500 bucks in Ohio and i got a 88 v6 pathfinder thats loud as fuck
Yeah! first year :) They got it right... :)They only thing they improved later was the rockerarms. they are cast iron in the early 22'r's and the 20R's, but the later 22R's had aluminum ones :) I broke one of the arms in the 2wd beige 22R. To heavy for high rpm's.
at the end when its in half it reminds me of terminator, haha, omg i saw that frame lexing and knew that this was gonna happen. o m g. funny man, hey serious idea, you should weld some wagon wheels on the back end so it rolls better.
yeah :( the first sign was when the left leaf spring broke off the frame in the front, and it just go worse and worse quick. Yeah! we've actually be very occasionally working on welding it back together :) So someday, it maybe yet again, Four Wheel Drive :)
:) yeah they are! That was the distributor and everything else getting wet. the truck had sat for about 10 years at this guys house before he sold it to me. so all the wires ad all were very old, and dryrotted and all. So it didn't protect from water very well. But for all that i still think it did really well! :)
see, try to leave me an asshole comment, and just end up making yourself look bad.
you should spend your time doing something other then trying to be mean to people. its a waste of time and it just puts more bad stuff out the in the world.
I think its easier for us, because we were there for the year or so of breaking in half, drive shaft fell out, dragging the dead back around, getting caught on stuff, making it drive crooked. Really, it was a liberation, or freedom for the truck! :) becoming a free 2 wheeled machine, that was nimbel as hell :) Definatlly made the thing happier :) Us too, we celebrated with it :) but we'll celebrate even more when we get it welded back together :)
in non us and maybe canada country's it was called that. But for us they dropped the hilux name. Don't know why. They should have kept it. its pretty cool. :) these were only called "Toyota Pickup Truck" :) thats kinda cool too. back in the 60's the hilux name was used here i think... maybe not though, because they were called stouts. :) But yeah, in other country's this is a hilux :)
we probably didn't have to keep them so high, but its fun to do! :) it does need to happen for some mud situations some times. have to spin the tires fast enough. and it won't have enough power to spin the tires very long in 3'rd. maybe a few seconds or so. These 22R engines put out almost 100HP, but thats it. :)
dude thats absolutely sick. My dad and I might be getting a 81 just like this except its fully intact and it only has 120k miles for like 1400 but i'm sure we could go cheaper. this things a fuckin tank.
God i hope you guys get it! these things are absolutely amazing... can't even explain. seriously... probably the best things ever. this was 500 bucks, so 1400 dollars for one in good shape... yeah! that is awesome! First year for the 22R! Dual row timing chains, and something else that only the 20R's and the early 22R's have. Is it beige like this beast? Thats cool man... there are alot of 81's out there supprisinglee. i wish they still made something this awesome now a days.
if you want to se a real test of how surprisingly tuff a japanese built 4x4 is... check out top gears "killing a toyota" part 1-3... now thats a true test, and fuck man, these trucks are amazing and you cant kill them, i hate import crap but these trucks just dont die...thus why i just bought one and im a hardcore chevy guy who owns both a 1979 z28 camaro and a 1983 k5 blazer
haha! i saw that! after we did all of this i saw that, and was like, wow, now other people know too. :)
yeah, they are amazing. no doubt. this thing sat for almost 10 years at some guys house before we got it. and he had just dragged it out and started it. and we never did a tune up. no plugs wires, anything. Just beat the living shit out of it. even pulled an 84 diesel k5 out of the mud with it :)
Not that the K5 wasn't fun, but they can't do what toyotas can :)
haha, yeah, it kinda becomes a junk yard some times... :) this is my grandmothers land, where i live, and we just keep our eyes out for anything cheap or free! find alot of stuff! toyota was 500, the ramcharger was probably around 500 or 400, the trailduster was over 2000 bucks i think... but there are alot of free ones!
I'm with you man! The Hilux's really were a great vehicle from the automotive world.
I've really wanted a Cummins powered 74-81 ramcharger/trailduster. it would have to be manual though. would not be cool to waste that engine on an automatic, in that awesome vehicle.
Seal up the distributor for sure! but the locker, nahh. its a toyota man! they rip posi like crazy, no questions asked. 2nd gear and high rpm's gets you some posi action. its their style. but probably should have done something about the spark situation there... we really were just having fun though man, just enjoying the thing the way it was. it sat for almost 10 years i think before we got it, so its doing pretty damn good. we don't mind getting stuck. not that it happened much!
Oh yeah i always have fun in my runner. ive got an 87 that i did a solid axle swap in, and its got a front locker and the damn thing is unstoppable. i wish i had the diesel in it though
Nice! yeah, they never ever should have switched over to independent front suspension. the old axles are so strong, and they even have CV joints! so you can turn as sharp as you want in the mud in 4WD floored, and the wheels dont slam left and right like on ujoint axles. just like my 49/54 willys. CV is the way to go.
The diesel would be awesome! i think they are viciously rare though.
Love the video. It gave me flashbacks of some of mine. The last two I had broke in half quite a few times. I'd weld them up, thrash them, break them and weld again. I usually would use a air chisel on the fenders and put 38 inch tires on em. I have a couple vids of my old blue 83 on my channel. I know just how you feel. We get them Toys cheap around here and I enjoy beating and fixing them. Don't let the haters get on your nerves. Thanks for the cool vids!
Thanks man! yeah, another thing is so many people are against these trucks! its crazy. they really just don't know them at all. it sad, because really, absolutely nothing compares to them... they are just amazing. 20r and 22R. just great. i'll check out your 83 vids. have you seen any of the videos of my 83? i put a 79 2WD front end in it. headlights, and grill, very cool looking. like a jacked up 2wd. cool. hope i get this thing back together some day.
Lol. This reminds me so much of a bike me and my friends have. All we do is try and break it. We call it the retard because all it does is stall, its a 2-stroke that somehow runs on straight gas, we lost the idle screw. It has a flat front tire and a bent front rim. Its an '79 175CC enduro. But this thing huals ass on the road. With a flat front, I got it up to 72 with 5th gear left. I was really scared to go any faster tho. Nice tho dude, hope you can get it back up and running
thats a scarry sounding setup. i wonder what would happen if it stalled when you were doing 70? something crazy probably. thats insane that it hasn't broken yet, running on straight gas. thats cool. hey, if you get some footage of that thing up, let me know, i'd like to see the imortal beast! carefull with those speed bursts man, it could be bad!
Yea man. Next time I go riding, i'll bring my camera and shoot a bit of video. I gotta finish my bike first tho, blew the top-end. No big deal tho. And yea, whenever I do something stupid (always?), I wear a helmet, 2 set of pants, a couple shirts, a hoodie, chest protector, and my helmet. I'll link you it whenever I get around to shootin it and putting it up.
yeah, i'm with you. the engine has a spun bearing or something similar to that. so i'm going to have to replace the rod bearings or something. the oil pan is off, so it won't be too hard. the high mileage engine wants to do some more romping! possibly at slightly lower rpm's, and it would probably appriciate atleast SOME oil pressure. i'm going to work on that.
yeah, thats the idea. The main reason is to have fun. Its just fun doing these kinds of things with cars/trucks. They impress us with their ability's. We do try to find out what their maximum potential is, and how far that can be pushed. I think my friends and I are the only people that use the word "ROMP". its sort of our own term for this kind of thing.
i actually didn't get my license till mid 2005. i was 21 by then. so for some of this footage, i don't have one. who needs a drivers license when you can drive cool toyotas through the woods and stuff?
so your saying its both things then...honestly we trashed that truck on purpose, it didn't ever have any breaks, and i'm sure i know how to drive better then you. especially with any kind of off roading, because i've been doing it all the fucking time since i was 16 or so. and since i was a kid with tractors and such, its how i live. this is all my back yard. you wouldn't understand this footage, because its not made to show off, its just us having fun, and joking around. i've had 9 toyotas
and you wonder why our trails are being taken away..... your property or not. drive better offroad then i do? it took you 3 trys to get out of that watery hole! and if you can drive better then i can? learn to not ride the clutch so much...
i don't wonder about anything like that. THIS IS MY PROPERTY, not trails, this has nothing to do with where other people romp, understand that? CLUTCH??? we drop the clutch... not ride it. it took 3 times to get out of the hole because it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders from all the water! you can hear it!! did you even pay attention? and we're not just trying to go through stuff, we're having fun. so we really arn't trying that hard to make it through everything. you don't understand..
oh and tree huggin hippe land closing suckup's dont care if its your property or not.... they do EVERYTHING they can to have it ceased or closed. If you used your head a little more.. Mr. "I've had 9 Toyota's" you'd know that.
do you mean i shouldn't put footage on the internet? that will get trails shut down? where i live people can't see, its in the woods, and not visable.
this is just a video of having some fun with an awesome 81 toyota pickup, i put it up because i'm sure alot of other people have done the same kind of stuff with theirs.
i don't understand how i'd know that. those 9 toyotas have all been on this property. i don't know anything about people who close down trails. its not something i've run into.
wow, you still think you're right... unbelievable. all you are is an asshole who wants to put me and my video down with lame insults. fuck you man. seriously. your a dick, and there are alot of you out there. tell me, right now, how what i do is going to get trails shut down. and i don't mean theoretically either, how are your hippie enemeys going to see what i do? the only way is this footage. you fucking suck. we were just having a good time, and will continue too. thats the point of romping
i dont care if you romp on your shit on your own property.... but by posting it on here... is only ammo to others.
it happening everyday, trails are being shut down...it starts with yuppies getting anal about what people do on their own land.
many of the major trails are going thru the shutdown process.... just be careful on what u post on the net. people may take it differently... maybe in the video description.... explain that its on your land.. not everyone reads the comments.
I'll try to keep that in mind for future videos. And i'll add that to the description of this vid too. The last thing i'm trying to do with any of my videos is fuck shit up for other people. i want there to be places for people to romp.
also.... this makes my point even better..... you DIDNT get your lisence since 2005.... you were 21.... wow... thats low son. pretty obvious why you didnt have it till then.. the guy testing you must have been on METH to pass your ass.
wow, great video, I love my yota trucks, I don't understand how people can think you are being disrespectful, some vehicles have a purpose, I don't feel bad at all for 4x4ing hard in my toyota, hell thats why I bought it, same goes for my supra, I didn't buy it to get 40mpg, thats stupid, I bought it to shred tires. (shrugs) Awesome clips dude. nuff said.
I find this video sad actually. Those are about the best vehicles ever sold in the US. It shows a deep lack of appreciation for owning a vehicle period. Of course you can do what ever you want with it. At least I know now my 83 toyota 4wd will last forever since I actually take care of it.
yours will last forever because you take care of it. i own 13 cars. its been 20+. some of them i take care of. some arn't for that purpose. it sat 10 years before i got it, not taken care of the frame was SHOT!
we had alot more fun with this truck, then probably 90 percent of all toyota owners ever. what we appriciate is not owning it, but the actual toyota. more then 90% of toyota owners ever could. because we REALLY know what these things can do. BEYOND average commute. we love it.
Dude, how do you come across all of these old yotas? I live in PA too, and never see anything as old as the ones in your videos. I finally bought an 87. I love the thing, wouldn't trade it for the world. But I was looking for something from the early 80's.
its not too easy, but just try to look around ALOT! the 83 tercel i have, is from a note we left on an 87 style toyota camper truck. saying we liked the thing, and gave my number. then he called, and told me about the tercel. its all random. the 76 celica was on ebay. 300 bucks. had to get it. 20R and all. yeah, 75-83 seems to be the coolest looking toyota pickups. your body styles cool too though. 2WD or 4WD?
Yeah, I like the body style on my 87. Maybe it's a little ugly, but that's what I like about it. It's a black, 4wd, long bed, 22R. The paint job is a little bad but it has very little rust and only like 46,000 original miles on it. The previous owner just drove it around on his farm and around town. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't have a solid front axle. I live in the city though, so I imagine the IFS is better around town.
yeah, we had some fun with this thing.... it could have used some powersteering i guess. but then again, it probably needs all the power the 22R can put out. the frame was rusted from years of doing tree work and sitting out side. i got it after it sat for 10 years or so. after 2 or 3 years of our use, the frame finally gave up. but i'm welding it back together slowly. a few years, and it should be back together. then beat it again!
Yo,,,just watched the video in more detail, i would (seriously) like to buy that ORIGINAL radio from that truck,,, only if it has the ORIGINAL KNOBS for tuning and volume, will negotiate, have paypal and 15 yrs at this address.thank u, jdavlaw
yeah! i'll have to look into the knobs. i know its an sr5, so its stereo, and works well enough. the buttons are slow in the cold though... it might not fit right in the dashboard of the 83 though... my 79 radio didn't fit right in the holes of my 83. its a shame to seperate it from the truck.. but i haven't used it in months, and could have been a year before that.
seriously, found original radio, outta 84 2wd, fixed/repaired/soldered, the cold solder joints inside radio, got it working,am and fm, but need the knobs, balance///tuner,,,original knobs, yea, it's stupid, but i'm tryin to bring this 83 up to specs.

Skilled trail riding is one thing...blatant abuse and neglect pisses me off.

oh, and your "nothing's gonna get me down" replies to asshole comments is refreshing. You must smoke weed? :) Good job.
festyxfi 1 year ago
This is so painfull to watch. I currently have a bone stock 79 4x4 I'm about to put a flatbed on for wood cutting. I also need to figure out how to fix the exhaust leak at the header (common problem?) any ideas? hilicoil (sp) I'd say barring rust, these trucks will run forever.
festyxfi 1 year ago
@festyxfi
Nah, no weed.
tommartyn 1 year ago
@festyxfi they like to break right behind the collecter at the end of the heder my 92 had that problem
theredneckpothead 1 year ago
@theredneckpothead thanks man! But I can tell mine has pulled away from the head. The headers warp after a while. I might get an aftermarket or replace it with one off a 22r head I have in the basement. Keep smoking pot reneck! :)

@festyxfi nice i still miss my old yota and ill smoke weed for the rest of my life lol

tommartyn 1 year ago
we just started our 86 all stock rusty 4runner "red thing" 230,000 miles after it rested for about two years after the old battery died. shes shaky bc one of the cyl has been fuct since i bought it. today we cleaned up some metal on the starter. after new battery it started right up. now there a fuel leak right by the engine. its got some moss growing in the window trays in the back and big old dry tires. i got mine also for 500 bucks in Ohio and i got a 88 v6 pathfinder thats loud as fuck
ZONEGIANTTROOPER 2 years ago
was that the first year for the 22r? those bitches can take hell. my 5mge is a war horse n my cressida
jtreign9097 2 years ago
Yeah! first year :) They got it right... :)They only thing they improved later was the rockerarms. they are cast iron in the early 22'r's and the 20R's, but the later 22R's had aluminum ones :) I broke one of the arms in the 2wd beige 22R. To heavy for high rpm's.
tommartyn 2 years ago
how much did you pay for this thing??
curtismundy 2 years ago
This beast was 500 bucks, still have it :)
tommartyn 2 years ago
at the end when its in half it reminds me of terminator, haha, omg i saw that frame lexing and knew that this was gonna happen. o m g. funny man, hey serious idea, you should weld some wagon wheels on the back end so it rolls better.
hheywire 2 years ago
yeah :( the first sign was when the left leaf spring broke off the frame in the front, and it just go worse and worse quick. Yeah! we've actually be very occasionally working on welding it back together :) So someday, it maybe yet again, Four Wheel Drive :)
tommartyn 2 years ago
toyotas are beastly! but u kept stallin it was the distributer gettin wet or can u just not drive? lol
mainman151 2 years ago
:) yeah they are! That was the distributor and everything else getting wet. the truck had sat for about 10 years at this guys house before he sold it to me. so all the wires ad all were very old, and dryrotted and all. So it didn't protect from water very well. But for all that i still think it did really well! :)
tommartyn 2 years ago
is that a 22r?
420xmikey 2 years ago
Yes sir! First year for the vicious beast of an engine called a 22R :)
tommartyn 2 years ago
yea thats the only bad thing about toyotas there right in the front of the motor. but they still do damn good in the mud

the braking part was hard to watch
DannysCam 2 years ago

:) But yeah, in other country's this is a hilux :)

tommartyn 2 years ago
why did you have to keep the rpms so high?
jpcox23 2 years ago
we probably didn't have to keep them so high, but its fun to do! :) it does need to happen for some mud situations some times. have to spin the tires fast enough. and it won't have enough power to spin the tires very long in 3'rd. maybe a few seconds or so. These 22R engines put out almost 100HP, but thats it. :)
tommartyn 2 years ago
dude thats absolutely sick. My dad and I might be getting a 81 just like this except its fully intact and it only has 120k miles for like 1400 but i'm sure we could go cheaper. this things a fuckin tank.
ChromeBalla54 2 years ago
God i hope you guys get it! these things are absolutely amazing... can't even explain. seriously... probably the best things ever. this was 500 bucks, so 1400 dollars for one in good shape... yeah! that is awesome! First year for the 22R! Dual row timing chains, and something else that only the 20R's and the early 22R's have. Is it beige like this beast? Thats cool man... there are alot of 81's out there supprisinglee. i wish they still made something this awesome now a days.

no haha its green, but hey, it works haha.

@tommartyn man makes me wish i had a stock pile of em in the back yard, yall probly got enouf parts from em, that yall could build one
amberessin 1 year ago
if you want to se a real test of how surprisingly tuff a japanese built 4x4 is... check out top gears "killing a toyota" part 1-3... now thats a true test, and fuck man, these trucks are amazing and you cant kill them, i hate import crap but these trucks just dont die...thus why i just bought one and im a hardcore chevy guy who owns both a 1979 z28 camaro and a 1983 k5 blazer
79Camaro321 2 years ago
haha! i saw that! after we did all of this i saw that, and was like, wow, now other people know too. :)
yeah, they are amazing. no doubt. this thing sat for almost 10 years at some guys house before we got it. and he had just dragged it out and started it. and we never did a tune up. no plugs wires, anything. Just beat the living shit out of it. even pulled an 84 diesel k5 out of the mud with it :)
Not that the K5 wasn't fun, but they can't do what toyotas can :)

I like Cummins powered Ram pickups but I'm from a Toyota family and I love these Hilux pickups. Tough as nails I tell ya!
spartus09 3 years ago
I'm with you man! The Hilux's really were a great vehicle from the automotive world.
I've really wanted a Cummins powered 74-81 ramcharger/trailduster. it would have to be manual though. would not be cool to waste that engine on an automatic, in that awesome vehicle.
tommartyn 3 years ago
@spartus09 cummins, is the best engin dodge ever used , to bad they dont still make em
amberessin 1 year ago
Seal up the damn distributor and get a locker!
MasterYota4Runner 3 years ago
Seal up the distributor for sure! but the locker, nahh. its a toyota man! they rip posi like crazy, no questions asked. 2nd gear and high rpm's gets you some posi action. its their style. but probably should have done something about the spark situation there... we really were just having fun though man, just enjoying the thing the way it was. it sat for almost 10 years i think before we got it, so its doing pretty damn good. we don't mind getting stuck. not that it happened much!
tommartyn 3 years ago
Oh yeah i always have fun in my runner. ive got an 87 that i did a solid axle swap in, and its got a front locker and the damn thing is unstoppable. i wish i had the diesel in it though
MasterYota4Runner 3 years ago
Nice! yeah, they never ever should have switched over to independent front suspension. the old axles are so strong, and they even have CV joints! so you can turn as sharp as you want in the mud in 4WD floored, and the wheels dont slam left and right like on ujoint axles. just like my 49/54 willys. CV is the way to go.
The diesel would be awesome! i think they are viciously rare though.
tommartyn 3 years ago
this thing is badass it makes me want one
savagexhaley14 3 years ago
I'd definitely recommend one! 1979-1983. 82-83 have square headlights, but same truck, and body
they are the best...
tommartyn 3 years ago
theyre hard to find up here in maine because most of them are rotted out and the ones that arent are too expensive to beat on haha
savagexhaley14 3 years ago
Love the video. It gave me flashbacks of some of mine. The last two I had broke in half quite a few times. I'd weld them up, thrash them, break them and weld again. I usually would use a air chisel on the fenders and put 38 inch tires on em. I have a couple vids of my old blue 83 on my channel. I know just how you feel. We get them Toys cheap around here and I enjoy beating and fixing them. Don't let the haters get on your nerves. Thanks for the cool vids!
BobsAutoRepair 3 years ago
Thanks man! yeah, another thing is so many people are against these trucks! its crazy. they really just don't know them at all. it sad, because really, absolutely nothing compares to them... they are just amazing. 20r and 22R. just great. i'll check out your 83 vids. have you seen any of the videos of my 83? i put a 79 2WD front end in it. headlights, and grill, very cool looking. like a jacked up 2wd. cool. hope i get this thing back together some day.
tommartyn 3 years ago
Nice tho dude, hope you can get it back up and running
theemonopolyguy 3 years ago
thats a scarry sounding setup. i wonder what would happen if it stalled when you were doing 70? something crazy probably. thats insane that it hasn't broken yet, running on straight gas. thats cool. hey, if you get some footage of that thing up, let me know, i'd like to see the imortal beast! carefull with those speed bursts man, it could be bad!
tommartyn 3 years ago
I'll link you it whenever I get around to shootin it and putting it up.
theemonopolyguy 3 years ago
ah shitilbuffout
cool vid still worth welding the frame back together.
rhanwolf1991 3 years ago
yeah, i'm with you. the engine has a spun bearing or something similar to that. so i'm going to have to replace the rod bearings or something. the oil pan is off, so it won't be too hard. the high mileage engine wants to do some more romping! possibly at slightly lower rpm's, and it would probably appriciate atleast SOME oil pressure. i'm going to work on that.
tommartyn 3 years ago
sir tomm may i ask u a question?? wat is the use of romping??? testing a car/truck how tough it is???am i right???
holocaustnemesis 3 years ago
Glad to hear from you!
yeah, thats the idea. The main reason is to have fun. Its just fun doing these kinds of things with cars/trucks. They impress us with their ability's. We do try to find out what their maximum potential is, and how far that can be pushed. I think my friends and I are the only people that use the word "ROMP". its sort of our own term for this kind of thing.
but yeah, you're right!

toyrunner85 3 years ago
i actually didn't get my license till mid 2005. i was 21 by then. so for some of this footage, i don't have one. who needs a drivers license when you can drive cool toyotas through the woods and stuff?
tommartyn 3 years ago
you shouldnt be near the wheel of any vehicle, you TRASHED that truck. and two, you dont know how to drive.
toyrunner85 3 years ago
so your saying its both things then...honestly we trashed that truck on purpose, it didn't ever have any breaks, and i'm sure i know how to drive better then you. especially with any kind of off roading, because i've been doing it all the fucking time since i was 16 or so. and since i was a kid with tractors and such, its how i live. this is all my back yard. you wouldn't understand this footage, because its not made to show off, its just us having fun, and joking around. i've had 9 toyotas
tommartyn 3 years ago
and you wonder why our trails are being taken away..... your property or not. drive better offroad then i do? it took you 3 trys to get out of that watery hole! and if you can drive better then i can? learn to not ride the clutch so much...
toyrunner85 3 years ago
i don't wonder about anything like that. THIS IS MY PROPERTY, not trails, this has nothing to do with where other people romp, understand that? CLUTCH??? we drop the clutch... not ride it. it took 3 times to get out of the hole because it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders from all the water! you can hear it!! did you even pay attention? and we're not just trying to go through stuff, we're having fun. so we really arn't trying that hard to make it through everything. you don't understand..
tommartyn 3 years ago
oh i understand, you're a freaking idiot.
oh and tree huggin hippe land closing suckup's dont care if its your property or not.... they do EVERYTHING they can to have it ceased or closed. If you used your head a little more.. Mr. "I've had 9 Toyota's" you'd know that.
toyrunner85 3 years ago
do you mean i shouldn't put footage on the internet? that will get trails shut down? where i live people can't see, its in the woods, and not visable.
this is just a video of having some fun with an awesome 81 toyota pickup, i put it up because i'm sure alot of other people have done the same kind of stuff with theirs.
i don't understand how i'd know that. those 9 toyotas have all been on this property. i don't know anything about people who close down trails. its not something i've run into.
tommartyn 3 years ago
research it buddy.... it may change how you romp on things
toyrunner85 3 years ago
wow, you still think you're right... unbelievable. all you are is an asshole who wants to put me and my video down with lame insults. fuck you man. seriously. your a dick, and there are alot of you out there. tell me, right now, how what i do is going to get trails shut down. and i don't mean theoretically either, how are your hippie enemeys going to see what i do? the only way is this footage. you fucking suck. we were just having a good time, and will continue too. thats the point of romping
tommartyn 3 years ago
i dont care if you romp on your shit on your own property.... but by posting it on here... is only ammo to others.
it happening everyday, trails are being shut down...it starts with yuppies getting anal about what people do on their own land.
many of the major trails are going thru the shutdown process.... just be careful on what u post on the net. people may take it differently... maybe in the video description.... explain that its on your land.. not everyone reads the comments.
toyrunner85 3 years ago
I'll try to keep that in mind for future videos. And i'll add that to the description of this vid too. The last thing i'm trying to do with any of my videos is fuck shit up for other people. i want there to be places for people to romp.
tommartyn 3 years ago
i agree. Im glad we came to a good standing.... HAVE FUN!
toyrunner85 3 years ago

I find this video sad actually. Those are about the best vehicles ever sold in the US. It shows a deep lack of appreciation for owning a vehicle period. Of course you can do what ever you want with it. At least I know now my 83 toyota 4wd will last forever since I actually take care of it.
festyxfi 4 years ago
yours will last forever because you take care of it. i own 13 cars. its been 20+. some of them i take care of. some arn't for that purpose. it sat 10 years before i got it, not taken care of the frame was SHOT!
we had alot more fun with this truck, then probably 90 percent of all toyota owners ever. what we appriciate is not owning it, but the actual toyota. more then 90% of toyota owners ever could. because we REALLY know what these things can do. BEYOND average commute. we love it.

tommartyn 4 years ago
Dude, how do you come across all of these old yotas? I live in PA too, and never see anything as old as the ones in your videos. I finally bought an 87. I love the thing, wouldn't trade it for the world. But I was looking for something from the early 80's.
jondohnson77 4 years ago
its not too easy, but just try to look around ALOT! the 83 tercel i have, is from a note we left on an 87 style toyota camper truck. saying we liked the thing, and gave my number. then he called, and told me about the tercel. its all random. the 76 celica was on ebay. 300 bucks. had to get it. 20R and all. yeah, 75-83 seems to be the coolest looking toyota pickups. your body styles cool too though. 2WD or 4WD?
tommartyn 4 years ago
Yeah, I like the body style on my 87. Maybe it's a little ugly, but that's what I like about it. It's a black, 4wd, long bed, 22R. The paint job is a little bad but it has very little rust and only like 46,000 original miles on it. The previous owner just drove it around on his farm and around town. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't have a solid front axle. I live in the city though, so I imagine the IFS is better around town.
jondohnson77 4 years ago
Craigslist and ebay is how I get mine.

holy fuck beat the piss outa it, how;d u break the frame?
toadpecker 4 years ago
yeah, we had some fun with this thing.... it could have used some powersteering i guess. but then again, it probably needs all the power the 22R can put out. the frame was rusted from years of doing tree work and sitting out side. i got it after it sat for 10 years or so. after 2 or 3 years of our use, the frame finally gave up. but i'm welding it back together slowly. a few years, and it should be back together. then beat it again!
tommartyn 4 years ago
man your revving the SHIT outa that thing...holy fuck
toadpecker 4 years ago
Yo,,,just watched the video in more detail, i would (seriously) like to buy that ORIGINAL radio from that truck,,, only if it has the ORIGINAL KNOBS for tuning and volume, will negotiate, have paypal and 15 yrs at this address.thank u, jdavlaw
JDavLaw 4 years ago
yeah! i'll have to look into the knobs. i know its an sr5, so its stereo, and works well enough. the buttons are slow in the cold though... it might not fit right in the dashboard of the 83 though... my 79 radio didn't fit right in the holes of my 83. its a shame to seperate it from the truck.. but i haven't used it in months, and could have been a year before that.
tommartyn 4 years ago
seriously, found original radio, outta 84 2wd, fixed/repaired/soldered, the cold solder joints inside radio, got it working,am and fm, but need the knobs, balance///tuner,,,original knobs, yea, it's stupid, but i'm tryin to bring this 83 up to specs.
