  • The song and the video make me so sad.

  • One of the great voices in rock. A very romantic song. Nice Mustang too.

  • He was my favOURite Styx member

  • Oh yeah this is my favOURite song.NOT!

  • i vthink the intro to desert moon was deleted when his chrachter says to another gut kiss me, it was a joke seeing it again you know it is, like guys b.s in the locker room but given the homophobia that was going on then, you can see why the intro was removed unjustly so then. the songs about past glories and friendship, how anyone can misinterpet it is beyond me

just enjoy the song it's very sweet richly felt too.

  • My favourite song back in 1984 and still is my favourite 25 years later. Timeless.

  • Not heard this in years , wicked song.. tks for posting x

  • does anyone know if the "kid brother" is his real son?? they sure do look alot , same nose, not no many of those out there.

desert moon is a romantic song as for most of his ballads

  • No, I'm positive it's not. This video was produced in 1984. The "kid brother" in this video looks to be, what, late teens - early twenties at the least. This would mean the person in the video would be in thier 40's by now. I believe his son Matthew maybe only in his late 20's or early 30's!!

  • sin ir mas lejos ...la mejor cancion del los 80,lejos la mejor.oh!!! que recuerdo casi tantos como en el video.

  • whois them guys dennis's talkin' to? they don't look like any from styx.

Love ya Dennis - Suzanne is so blessed!!!

  • NOSTALGIA ..... oh i forgot i was born late 80's LOL.... damn great song

  • he should have said 'kiss my a**' at the beginning of the song, but back in the 80's we had too much censorship, and you sure couldn't get away with that back then

  • talent? how old are you?

  • Unfortunately, Styx and Dennis have suffered the fate of other groups who have gone their own way. After the split, neither really had a lot of commercial success. Dennis lacked the name recognition, Styx lacked the talent. But this song is absolutely one of my favorites. And yes, the 80s were the prime time for music!

  • Not that the guys in Styx aren't talented, Tommy is great. It's just that they're missing an important part of the equation without Dennis.

  • The 80's were a very "inclusive" time for music. You had the blue collar rock from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, then you had acts like Prince, Tears for Fears, The Romantics,The Police or whatever. I loved the 80's. you didn't have to be under 18 to have a hit record.

  • Amen to that my friend, tell me don´t you feel some sort of butterflies in your belly when you hear these songs...?

  • if i recall correctly, Huey lewis was like 45 when he hit it big for the first time.

  • let me guess, your 16?

  • @misfits4life1

Wasn't "Walk Among Us" an 80's release?

  • This song is so good! What a song! Just when music was good: the 80´s

  • yeah, the 80's! Best era of music.

  • yes its his wife

  • isthe woman in the photos his wife? anybody knows?

  • I love Dennis! His music is incredible. He leaves me in awe continually! Thank you for your music Dennis, it has saved me many times!

  • GREAT song and video.

  • Poor song? Your high! His voice is unstoppable, best voice since Benjamin Orr.

  • What the hell do you know! Dennis is the best singer ever! The voice of an angel. His music has gotten me through some of the most emotionally hard times of my life! He is STYX!

  • Great song...greats memories...

  • What a sound. What a singer.

  • Wow... this was filmed in my town. Santa Paula. The good old train station! :D

  • let's face it, styx would be nothing without Dennid Deyoung....

  • What a great song! Brings back so many memories. Dennis DeYoung is an incredible song writer.

  • This actually one of my favorite songs...

  • This is a song about lovers with potential but end up not as they wanted.

  • oh my my my. this song brings back good memories growing up...

i loved the summer drive to 580 heading nowhere just listening to classic rock

    i love you all

  • Isn't that the truth... We love you back

  • I miss the 80s MTV. where did the time go

  • does anyone know what rims are on the Ram Charger.

I have one and would like to switch from the boring ones on there now.. To those.

    Thanks

  • we used to play this song in my band back home and i want to play this again but i need a keyboard player.

  • conchas de tu puta madre piojosa que te pario pendejo

  • I've loved this song since it came out, & this is the 1st time I've seen the vid since probably early 1985. I was quite surprised at how much of the vid came back to me upon viewing, which I had mostly forgotten. I've always firmly believed that this song was one of Dennis's best efforts.

  • ¿¿¿¿chilepoderoso ???? ¡¡¡¡no juegues !!!!¡¡¡¡¡sientate bien no te vayas a caer !!!!!jajajajajaja

  • fuck off to

  • A big chunk of 80's cheese. But I still love it.

  • As sappy as this video is, I love it! I loved it when it first came out and still do. It's a 6 minute short film.

  • Rosario, thats really uncalled for but if you really wanna throw up, why dont you go watch your own video with that other girl and the cup.

  • I love this guy it's like Operah for everyone of them.

  • I havent heard this song since 1984, took me a nerve or two to finaly click the play button. Rembering me to the 80z ` that rainy day i had a love stold from me, Then walking home in the rain, Come the night...the moon&stars was the only friend i had... perhapes I will push the replay button and appreciate the losses and gains from My 80z [[[PeaceDudes]]]

  • Styx made the best music. Sorry they aren't together with Dennis anymore. Other bands did it, why can't Styx??

  • my mom used to play this song in her car when i was like 5 and i'd sing along! haha i love this song.

  • I wish I could go back to the 80's but still know everything I know today.

  • amorris079 - couldn't have said it better friend.

  • Would you really want to know everything you know now?........or would you rather be innocent again?

  • Hah who wouldn't? Maybe remember which stocks to buy or not to be a jerk to 'that special girl' or spend more time with your family...time sure flies, doesn't it?

  • im 14 i think any new mousic is garbage. 60s 70s 80s best

  • and the 90s

  • I am also 14 and I 98% agree with you!!!

  • To my youth,

    I miss you.

  • I hear you! I want to go back to my youth in the '80s.

  • Boy, that mortality bug has a big bite. Remember this period- young, hanging, not a care in the world- drinking on the beach, looking at the stars, really feeling life and the invincebility we had. Had the world by the balls, we did.

  • ahhh... but it only changes if you let it change

  • He is one of my favorite singers of all time! He ranks right up there with ELVIS, and Steve Perry!

  • A W E S O M E...Thats all I have to say!!!

  • I hate the people who say stuff like "Dennis sucks" any such, Guys, im 14, but, i love oldies, my 5 favorites are, Styx, Dennis Deyoung, Coltrane(I love jazz), America, and Credence Clearwater Revival.

  • For only being 14, you are a wise kid. The late 70's and early 80's were the greatest time period for great music. Make no mistake about it. I lived through that time period going to high school and college and no time period since has so much good music been produced. That is a fact!

  • Favorite love song in my teens!!!

  • one of the best voices ever!!!!!

  • one of my favorite videos ever- what a great love song and the videos's great- yay Dennis!

  • They keys to that Mustang are worthless without a signed title!

  • Brings back some great memories for me. Dennis is a true 80's icon!

  • I agree with everything but the pink floyd comment. Pink floyd without waters has done just as well . if not better without him.

  • oops! with him

  • Unmistakeable voice, Styx was never the same. Like Pink Floyd without Roger Waters or Journey w/o Steve Perry etc. Not bad but nowhere near the same.

  • Roger Waters was lead singer on Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut. David Gilmour did majority of vocals in Pink Floyd, even Rick Wright and Syd Barrett did. Styx without Dennis DeYoung is like Genesis without Phil Collins and/or Peter Gabriel, Queen without Freddie Mercury, Led Zeppelin without John Bonham, Bad Company without Paul Rodgers and/or Mick Ralphs.

  • Floyd is my all time favorite, so don't misunderstand. I saw them in T.O. without Waters and it was the best concert of all time IMO. I was merely commenting. I thank you for expanding the list. I basically lost interest ,in each of the acts you mentioned, after the significant loss of said member. Just wasn't the same. I think had Rick Allen actually gave up(no one could have blamed him) I may have stopped listening to Leppard. Classic Rock all the way. Comfortably Numb in Ontario

  • Desert Moon was my prom theme and reminds me of a girl from my past that I left slip away because my dad had moved us. Why on earth would this song need modified? It is still as classic today as it was then.

  • This song, More Than A Feeling and Come Sail Away by Styx really capture my youth. 1984 it was...good times!

  • I hope you weren't intending the "by Styx" part to modify all 3 songs. Because this was a solo project by DeYoung, and More Than a Feeling is by Boston.

  • Let me state the obvious:

    Desert Moon ~ Dennis DeYoung

More Than A Feeling ~ BOSTON

    Come Sail Away ~ Styx

  • Yes, clearly I was aware of that. But the way you worded it was ambiguous. That being said, nice song choices.

  • I hear that! Them were the days huh... :o)

  • dennis owns!

  • Now this song really reminds me of my high school days. Oh to be young again and having summers off!

  • we are gonna see him sing in concert tonight :-)!

  • Great song!....Great 80's Memories!!

  • LBjim - Not to be nit picky but I grew up in Santa Paula and it is north west of L.A. Just inland (east) from the beaches of Ventura by about 15 miles on Hwy 126 in the Santa Clara Valley. I'm sure your uncle did have a great time filming in that beautiful little Jewel, What's not to like about it? I just wanted to make sure the facts were correct and share a little bit about my Hometown of "Santa"! I Hope everyone who sees this video gets a few great memories of their very own Santa Paula.

  • Can't believe this song is 25 years old! It feels like yesterday.

  • I know isn't it weird? I was 13 when it came out.....It's funny how songs can bring you back.

  • Awesome video! This is a story of real life, love, family, friends & and lost love, you can feel it all, love this song. I have been to the Santa Paula train station, and have ridden on the "Fillmore & Western" many times, Love that place & train too!

  • I have a VERY vivid memory of this song and the video for this song. My brother was in college in Plateville, WI. We watched his football game and stopped at my aunt's place on the way home. She had MTV which was HUGE in 1984.

I was sitting alone watching MTV when this song came on. I was awestruck by the video and SO wanted to be in that group of friends. I still remember the moment I 1st saw this video like it was yesterday. So unreal!! Such a beautiful song and one I will NEVER 4get!

  • Did Dennis DeYoung play the Minnesota State Fair after he played The North Dakota State Fair or before? Can't remember.

  • Dreams are dreams as long as we can still dream

  • Dreams remain--just as long as there are dreamers!

  • Dennis has an incredible voice, he got a little too much theatrical,Tommy Shaw was and is still the coolest

  • bring back memories...

  • Tommy was the talent in this band...

    Dennis went way out there...

  • We saw Dennis DeYoung at the Minnesota state fair 2 years ago and was FANTASTIC he played for 2 1/2 hours and this was a free show and i can say it was the best concert i have been too,

  • I am thrilled to come across this video. I absolutely love Dennis and his wonderful voice and hope he keeps having a successful life. Everyone should go see his shows Dennis is a wonderful entertainer and his shows are sensational. His voice keeps getting better . Thank-You Dennis

  • That hair : BARF!!

  • BEST. VIDEO. EVER. I'm convinced the movie Beautiful Girls is loosely based on this video.

  • the single GREATEST video of ALL time!

  • This song reminds me of when I had to move from Chicago to Oshkosh WI. I cried for weeks.

  • Hey, I'LL Keep the car!!

  • I heard this song in Indianapolis when Dennis DeYoung visited Indianapolis (2008).

  • brings back so many odf the good times. The 80s thats all i can say.God i miss them, they live on.

  • Great Song!.... 80's "Memories" ; )

  • 3:19 looks like Dennis Deyoung's actual wedding photo.

  • The songs of"yesterday" you could always understand the words. It was fun because I could always sing along

  • Just listening to this song reminds me that we all have our Desert Moon.

  • Hey! My brother and sister went to this concert when I was too young. I'll never forget when they brought me a shirt and woke me up at 2 am to give it to me. I was 11 yrs old. Still one of our favs. I hope someday my brother gives me his 67convertible mustang my parents sold to him. Great video of the good old days!!!

  • that's cool man good luck with the mustang if it was mine you wouldn't stand a chance though

  • Please don't EVER delete this video! I remember watching this as a kid and for years I couldn't find it anywhere.. Now I finally get to watch this again, and watch it at least once a week! I love it!!!

  • i feel the same way man. everytime i comeback home this is one of the first things i do. i'm sure my wife thinks it's pathetic but this just one of many silly hangups of mine don't know what it is probably never will

  • Brings back a lot of memories!

  • This song and video brings me back to when I was 8 in late 1984 and back to my childhood back in my native Whitman, MA. I wore the 45 out so I got the album a few days later. This was from when MTV was MUSIC TELEVISION! The words to this ring true and when you go back to places you grew up at an older age, alot changes. After I returned to Mass in 2005 (after I returned there for summer 2004 when I moved to South Crapolina in 2003), everything changed so I moved to Florida in 2006.

  • I was 9 years old when this song came out, and me and my sister loved this song! It was around the time I started listening to Casey Kasem's AT40. I remember hearing it on the radio all the time. You're right--MTV was Music Television back then, and sadly, not even VH1 Classic of today can bring back those special memories of late 1984. I was living in Queens, NY at the time and was about to move to the suburbs of Glen Rock, NJ. It's sad to think I can't get 1984 back again... :-(

  • Wow. When I watched this, I'd forgotten how much I really, really don't miss high school.

The present is so much better than the past.

  • Beautiful song.

  • Damn good song!

When I hear this song, it takes me right back to high school.

    God, I miss those days.

  • musicray agree---this is a great song and vh1 and mtv are now both poor. I see martha quinn floating around now and than----however, sadly JJ Jackson passed away awhile ago. Mtv was fun to watch in those early days----not any longer.

  • I love this song from the 80's.

  • wait, did deyoung make this in the late 80's or eairly 90's?

  • I believe this song hit the top 40 in the fall of '84!!

  • Just reading all the comments left here..

this song sure brings back memorys..

Hey MilesMulhdoon, I don't know you but you're a good man whoever you are..

    .....

  • Being 40 now, it definitely makes you think about your past, and who you were back in the mid-1980's. Yeah, I still miss you, Tammy, but my boy who have never existed. I know that's somewhat of a cop-out, but everyone needs to justify things they do in life

  • You can keep your memories but it's harder to go back and reminisce with old friends because alot of them leave/die/move on...Great song and cool video in my opinion after all these years-Mikey

  • couldn't Agree more.

  • Man, you said it.

  • Great Song And Great Video...old time MTV days..MTV and VH1 both suck today...nothing but garbage videos...where are you Martha Quinn, J.J. Jackson and the rest from the MTV pioneer days???..thanks for the post !!

    Raymond ... Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Don't be scared to tell us how you really feel, I guess i am not going to lose any sleep about The idea that this isnt filmed in Chicago, all i know is i seen him put on a 2 hour show at the Minnesota state fair and it was a fun 2 hours.

  • this is an awsome song, those who don't think so must be Merl haggert fans.

  • There are some mountains in the background this cant be filmed in Illinois. Being from the midwest Dennis DeYoung and Styx were one of the great groups of our era. They were especially huge in the Illinois, Wisconsin, and midwest areas. The Chicago area was loaded with great bands in the 70s---styx, buckinghams, new colony six---shadows of knight.---truly a great era for music---Dennis you were and still are great.

  • Who are the guys in the video???

  • I miss you Rita K.

    AA

  • When i think of this of song, it reminds me of when i visited my old neighborhood...the past never leaves it remains forever

  • sexyangelstarr , well texted.

  • i think its so sad how know so little about Dennis's solo work, i'm defintly going to check out more!

  • Thanks for posting this video, definitely brings back lots of memories and makes me think of my own group of friends growing up.

  • this song brings back so many GREAT memories. I just love the old videos like this one.

  • this song bring me back wow!!!!

  • god, they just don't make tracks like this anymore. intelligently written, sung with passion and one that brings back a flood of memories of simpler times...

ahhh, thank you, Dennis for a true classic.

  • This is a pretty good song. :D

Funny, the only reason I even looked it up was because I found it it was filmed in my hometown. :P

  • What town is this the train station looks familiar?

  • It could be Mokena, Illinois (SW sub of Chicago). He was living there at the time (Hence the song, "Southbound Ryan" off of his "Back to the Word" release). Though, I've heard he has since moved to Burr Ridge.

  • No, actually its a little town in California called Santa Paula. :)

  • You are right it was filmed in Santa Paula,Calif about 70 miles east of LA in Ventura County. My uncle worked on the shoot and said it was fun...

  • it's hindsight, not hinsights...darling.

    -Muhldoon

  • The song is as great now as it was then... What a great song, Dennis.

  • I'm with you Sethan122,

you don't how and what I would give to go back and kick my own ass...what a fool I was, just a fool and here I thought I was a Somebody. son of a bitch! I never believed it would happen to me and it did...slipped away so easily and fast.

hell, I would have left me, too.

Lisa, wherever you are...and you guys...son of a bitch, it was somethin', wasn't it.

    -Muhldoon

  • you are somebody man just not who you thought you were maybe better maybe worse but the fact you can look back and learn from it tells me you cant be all bad

  • hinsights always 20/20 darlin'

  • Was once of my favorites when it came out. Still a great song.

  • another song to show us how youth is wasted on the young.i really wish that i could go back and kick my own ass sometimes. cheesy video but the song does hit the mark
