  • I remember having this laptop. I doubt it works anymore though...

  • that computer is so got damn ugly.

  • Hey man i just Got a Dell latitude C600 and evert time i turn it on it loads the first screen and then it turns a sreeen on that says " Microsoft (R) Windows 98 (C) Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1999" and i have to type somthing in for " C:\> " and i dont know what to do for that part.... CAN YOU HELP?

  • @Pilotak47 Just type the word win at the c:\> prompt. But windows 98 sucks, you should find a copy of windows xp and install that instead.

  • @knicj i tryed that but then it would say "Bad command or file name"

  • @Pilotak47 Microsoft Windows 98 is probably corrupt then. I don't know why that wouldn't work, but the last time I used Windows 98 on a real machine was almost 10 years ago now. Even if you could get it work, Win 98 is compatible with almost nothing these days, even the latest web browsers. Best to find yourself a copy of Windows XP and get that on there rather than fight with trying to get that old Windows 98 to work.

  • I have this with win 7 but im selling it for a dell latitude d630.

  • Nice idea! I have the same laptop (Dell Latitude 600)...

If I may ask, where can I find the drivers for Windows XP?

Unfortunately on Dell site there are only the drivers for Win 2K...

Thank you very much for your help. :-)

  • @lmbrtube There are none. But they aren't necessary. The computer works fine with XP's generic drivers.

  • @knicj THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I'll try and keep you posted.

    Bests. :-)

  • I have that same exact computer! I did a review of it as well!! :P Know i use an HP mini....you are lucky though bc yours seems to run a lot faster then mine....mine is so sluggish its not even funny. How did you gets yours to run faster like that?

  • @girlstorm09 I did a fresh installation of Windows XP Professional service pack 3, the memory was upgraded from the default 128 it came with to 384. It can go up to 512. 128 is the minimum requirement for running Windows XP, it was made for Windows 98/2000. Hope that helps, but I wouldn't go chasing down upgrades for this laptop because it's so old unless you're into tinkering. I've not tried, but something that isn't Windows which is lightweight such as Damn Small Linux could work better. :)

  • Sadly, just a few days ago this laptop finally went. Motherboard failures abound; keeps resetting the detected memory and machine is loaded with issues. Wireless card won't even work anymore. Ah well, had a good run.

  • aaahhh i need the ethernet driver for mi computer dell latitude c600 (windows xp)

    help me....

  • @lorldsesshomaru1 If you're using windows XP, there aren't any drivers needed for ethernet... Check your cable and try again. If you can't get it to work your motherboard is probably damaged.

  • Lol 2:16 burp!

  • @jesse84843093

    laat burp! :)

  • @ponyboy556 same hear and I love it to death

  • It probably is the hard drive. Is it making clicking or whining noises? Those are usual signs of death. Hard drives themselves are only rated to last an average of 3 to 5 years so the ones in these laptops are well past their prime.

  • yup! i think its the hard drive. 50 bucks on ebay.if it aint one thing its another.

  • i bought a new fan on ebay. the fan works great. but now it wont read the hard drive.its that infamous black screen that says drive disconnected and 32 syn something.

  • may be you have a bad hdd

  • i was just given one yesterdsy.it works ok but aftrer 20 min. it starts overheating and slows way down. its got xp also. i got the wireless set up but dont know how to use it so im not interested.any i deas on how to stop heating problem.its actually pretty darn fast when i first start it.

  • @lemorpion1 buy a cooling plate/pad. should do the trick.

  • @lemorpion1 i did a fan hack with mine used an old c640 chip set box fan pop it in the vent plug it in to the keyboard/mouse plug only bad thing is you cant use that plug any more if you have the fan blow out it dose really help your prominence

  • I'm using that laptop 2 watch this video! lol

  • Nice lappy, but my power jack died.. I could cry.. nah, not really...

  • @RoelorD Power jack died on one of ours as well. It got a little loose; turned out the board was cracked.

  • I just put a Tiny7 on this laptop. It is chugging along very nicely. It even boots faster then your XP. Got this computer for free, very happy about it!!!

  • Ok Because my USB one does not work no more(OVERHEATS EASILY) so I'm gonna buy the PCMCIA now,and the only prblem that I have on this kind of laptop is that whenever I take out the charger, the laptop turns off so do you think it's a battery problem or is it the hadrware?.Mine is exactly like yours C600.

  • @swed702 I would definitely recommend the wireless card for this laptop. Especially since on this laptop you only get 1 USB port, might as well save that for something else.

The battery problem... chances are, the battery just doesn't hold a charge anymore. It has two slots for a battery; try them both and check the battery status in windows to see if it's charging at all.

  • @knicj Yup,But I think there's only one battery slot which is on the left side only and yea the battery doesn't hold a charge,it doesn't even show a battery charging sign on the windows,do you know the problem is?

  • @swed702 Can't say for sure what the problem is there. Maybe if the battery can't hold any charge at all and it's completely dead, Windows XP has nothing to show for it? On newer versions of Windows it tells you more about battery health, but not XP. I would still try buying a new battery.

  • @knicj OK SO THE linksys pcmcia just arrived and I installed the drivers but it doesn't show any wireless networks that is available at my house,do you know why?

  • @knicj Also, you can get 2 batteries, one on the left and one on the right where the cd drive/ floppy is.

  • Is that a PCMCIA WIRELESS WIFI attached to the left side of this laptop?

  • @swed702 Yes. A linksys one. This laptop did not come with internal wireless capabilities.

  • same laptop dell c 600 same memory i running right now ubuntu 9.10 and xp in it my only problem with ubuntu at first was the resolution but i fix it and it runs perfect now

  • I was gonna get one of these £50 on ebay

  • This was my first laptop. Solid computer from Dell. Despite a number of design flaws, it's 9 years old and still works.
