The plane is pretty nice but its outdated for a presidential aircraft. It's basically a upgraded 747-200. Most modern airlines have 747-400 and the 747-800 is almost released and so is the 787-800 and 900. The 747-800 or 787-800/900 is probably going to be the aircraft they will order

I love our 747 aircraft in general...That is a beautiful bird indeed.... I like the 747-400 with the winglets at the end of the end of the wings... The same for the other Presidental aircraft; the 757-200 with winglets....Yes, I always have to remember the governmental aircraft numbers.....I also miss the Concorde that the Queen of the UK used to fly on her trips.....God!!! Aircraft and flying!!!! Very nice....

@justtakeiteasy On a Gallup projection poll, if the 2012 Presidential elections were held today, Ron Paul would win 41% of the popular vote with Obama at 42%. Ron Paul can win, and since he is the only candidate I have seen in a long time who has stood up to the constitution and actually stood up against the federal reserve and has supported a house bill reforming the Federal Reserve Act allowing the government to audit the Federal Reserve. I have yet to see a political bullshiter try that.

@dimple3g Safety. If the engine quits and they go straight up, there is nothing to keep them from falling like a rock. They stay close to the ground until they build up enough ground speed so that in the event of an engine failure, they can auto-rotate and land safely. They must also take off from an active runway as well, although the president can probably get around this, but that is why you see helicopters taxiing to the runway at airports.

I would thinl that AF1 would be a 747-400, not an older 747-200

@bluepanther1011 This plane was under construction when the 747-400 line was introduced, and when the interior and "anti-nuke" protection installed, the -200 line was already out of production. Further, I can guarantee you that both of the AF1 -200 airframes have FEWER flight hours than the NEWEST -400...so that's why AF1 isn't a -400. The next generation AF1 will be a mid-generation model B747-8i. And, I suppose the two current -200 airframes will go on as AF2 airframes for another 10-15 years.

@bluepanther1011 Another thing...SAM 28000 and SAM 29000, although -200s, are actually "hybrids," and do not have the engines of the older series, but have the same GE engs as the newer -400s, and, during the Bush years, received the same glass cockpits the -400s have. They are very unique aircraft in many respects.

@kellyberry Yeah...the read carpet and military greetings and the like are only for offical state visits. I believe here he was on his way for a vacation, so not so much of the pomp and ceremony. Nevertheless, since President Obama took office, I have wanted more than anything else to meet him and be able to take a ride of AF1 and just ask him questions. What a great man.
