thanks..I had a tape tear on me , that which I just shoot footage..I use to tape up film in film school the old school way.. and when I saw your video it reminded me how to do this and it all came back.. fixed it and feels good to save that footage..thanks..
The reassembly I found misleading. It works much better if you put the reels in the smaller of the two cassette casing parts. Then get all the parts into that side and align the pivots on the tape protector flange on the larger part with the curved grooves on the smaller part.
please respond, very important. i have a unhealthy tape and i really need the film off of it. the casset is fine just its a little tangled. i used that white button on the side and put it back in. its crinkled but not tangled will it run through without damaging the tape. thanks
Why did you not use the tape you cut from the left instead of the clear tape you actually scotch taped?? Did you scotch tape both sides of the video tape?
Thank you so much for this post. I started an Indie movie about 5 yrs ago and am just finishing it now. one of my tapes got damaged somehow and it holds some critical footage. Had I hair I would have pulled it out without this. Your method worked like a charm. I would just make a note to make sure you retract the hood before taking the tape apart because if that one tiny spring comes loose you have to start all over again. At least I did after an hour.
You seriously just saved my life with this tutorial. Had you not put it up I would have been so screwed! Thankfully this is the last piece of DV footage I will ever use.
very frustrating and tedious. your video is great but after 2 hours of working on my broken DV tape I could not fit the two halves of my new healthy tape together, to be screwed shut. I don't know how you did it. URGH I'll have to pay a pro.
@ericar1993 I know what you are going through. Hang in there. Once thing that helped me is using small pieces of tape to temporarily hold some of the smaller pieces in place during assembly.
When you do this, you'll want to make sure that you leave enough extra tape sticking out so that you can remove it later.

@1freemannow sorry, you are correct, the re-assembly could have beenmore thorough

@javapda does it have to be scotch tape?
ABCtutorials2 2 weeks ago
@ABCtutorials2 no, should work for most tapes of this type.

@jakebamsk8er Not sure what you are asking. Sounds like your tape is in fairly good condition.

you make that look so easy. i just went thru some tapes trying to put a spliced tape in a new tape

@ownman420 one thing I learned is that you should not dring a lot of coffee before reassembly :-)

Now I can repair my sex tape!!! Thank you lots!!!

You skipped the part where you put the top back on. In fact, if you work from the other side, it is a trivial matter to reassemble the tape shell.
