To be honest with you i thought you were doing a biased review to promote the product. That's cuz i can't remember you saying anything negative about the product.
@bigdima3 The review is far from glowing, and she doesn't exactly push the Fire in her conclusion. In fact, she points out that it's mostly for people who already are into Amazon content. It was a far less positive review than most have been.
Also, why the assumption that unless she says something negative, she's biased? Maybe there's nothing really negative to say about the Fire, in her (and my) opinion.
Really, I think you are looking at a different Fire than we are, bigdima5.
The volume is no big deal. It take a tap to open Settings and then a slide on the volume bar. The slider bar defaults to volume control, so TAP and SLIDE and you're done. No big deal.
@paxpaul Hey Paul. :) You're right, it's not a huge deal, but I only mentioned it because of the convenience factor. I prefer buttons so I don't have to interfere with the screen as I'm watching. Also, QUICk muting can be convenient - we've seen this on all devices, whether it be tablets, phones, or even our laptops. Thanks for watching and giving input!
@mari1ee You're not the only one to mention the lack of a volume control, and I can see all of your points. Quicker muting would be nice, but I can mute my Fire faster than my laptop or Blackberry controls allow, so for me (and a lot of average users like me), I doubt the volume issue will be..um, an issue. (Should've thought that sentence through.) :)
@bigdima3 "A mission?" Seriously, that's a joke, right? On a regular device, you have to reach for the volume control and push/slide/roll it: That's two small steps. (Put finger on control, move control.)
On the Fire, you have to tap the top of the screen and then slide the slider bar: Again, two small steps. (Tap finger on screen and slide finger.) That's all.
If that's a "mission" to you, I'm surprised you can work with computers at all.
Physical buttons are more natural, everyone prefers them. I'm sure there is a better psychological explanation. I don't even want to image how painful it is when you have to activate the whole device just to change the volume whilst listening to music on standby.
Plus, the Kindle Fire is crazily unstable. I wouldn't be surprised if the tablet exploded whilst reading an e-book or browsing the web. Now imagine you trying to change the volume and the device is not responding.
I felt the reading is fine with the kindle fire. Using the off-white background with the brightness turned almost all the way down really helped with eye strain.
Also I eventually got used to watching TV shows without headphones. I really noticed the one sided sound at first, but I don't really notice it as much anymore.
@Bookoo327 I agree we'll get used to the one-sided sound. In hindsight, if you're is viewing video alongside text, the tablet likely has a portrait orientation, so a speaker at the top and bottom of the device wouldn't make much sense. As for eye strain, I still think that you get more of it compared to reading an eInk device. It'd be great if the brightness could be turned down beyond the Fire's limitation, but I also found that turning on a light in the room helps. :)
amazon app store might suck....but the music and video store is 1000x better than itunes. the daily deals are amazing. $1 rentals for NEW movies. [compared to itunes $4 new movies, and weekly deal to rent an obscure old movie for $1]
its not even as good as a commodeore 64 is it coz even on that system it could show a page of text without jerking every time u scroll u know i tink only poor people r getting this srsly just get an ipad 2 and stop being so cheap
That would be nice for many poor people in Chicago Illinois also. Chicago has many areas where folks are staving to death.

Oh god, looks like the Asian lady got paid by Amazon to do the review.
bigdima3 3 months ago
@bigdima3 Really? That'd be awesome if Amazon wanted to pay me. But sadly, I used my own money to buy the device and made my own opinions.
Yours truly, the Asian lady.

@paxpaul The absence of the volume buttons is a big deal for me and almost every tablet user.
It is one of the things that should be immediate. If you have to go through different steps just to reduce the volume then it becomes a mission.
