  • Oh Wow! I made a recipe for a dessert called "Koeksisters" recently. My school was doing a south african themed menu and the recipe for these cookies and the koeksisters are almost exact. Even the sugar syrup with cinnamon! That's crazy how two different countries have the same treat!

  • hi Maangchi,

  • @akira1983x hope your maejakgwa turns out great and get some compliments from your parents!

  • would it be possible, maangchi, to bake the cookies (instead of frying) before pouring the syrup, to cut down on the fat?

  • Made these as gifts, received rave reviews! No one has ever tasted anything like it. Thank you Maangchi!

  • @EnglishCupcake omg, I'm so happy to hear that! Cheers! : )

  • I think I'll stick to cookie cutters... xD

  • im hungryyyy

  • why dont u just use a pizza cutter or one of those little ravioli cutters?

  • lol this made me laugh:

"smells like a little ginger smell"

  • Maangchi!! i need your help...i made my cookies today but it got puffy and when i added the syrup the cookies got soggy...how do u makes ur cookies look nice and yellow and crispy like that??? does using corn oil effect it's crispiness?? and i even put really thin slices to see if it was the problem but even the thin slices puffed up....

  • maybe its because you used self raising flour.

  • Any tips on what to do with left over syrup? :P

  • omg. omg. omg. i have these on my ipod. and i get SOOOO hungry!! when you eat at the end, you make it seem 20000x as much yummy as it already is!!! and most your food is really healthy and low fat from what iv'e seen

  • They look so good! I'm going to have to try this one day =D

  • It is alot of work...but well worth it! It's a hit at parties (its sorta like that slogan, "you can't eat just one" kinda dessert hehe).

Filipinos have a similar recipe also (in my family its known as "cascaron"). Everything is almost the same except for the "ribbon"shaping. Instead of the precise rectangle shape, my mom just goes with a diamond shape w/ one slit then fold...then just a plain sugar syrup. Will try adding cinnamon/pinenut and adding ginger juice to the dough next time.

  • Yummm ^__^

  • its seems a really good and cute recipe (lots of work though)

    thank you very much!

  • oh my god so genuine and proffesional.

  • omg, what a lot of work slitting those tiny lil strips.... maangchi u are really an amazing cook!

  • the cookie looks amazing to eat! plus, it's cold here, i think ginger is good to eat.. it can warm me up right? =)

  • HAHAHAHA<3 i can't help ittttttttttt your foods make me drool :D what can i sayyyy, i'm a devoted fan hehehehe :D

  • we have the same cookies in north africa it's called Griwech or Chabakia" but without ginger we put butter and 1 egg and if we want we add sesame seed , all the other steps are the same, in Algeria we have an other design more difficult the shape may have till 10 parts if you want watch this video :

    1- watch?v=xSB4DZpnumw

    2- watch?v=rh1e_akucx8&feature=related

  • You are so cute! (I hope thats not rude, but you have the cutest hands!) And your recipe looks like you put a lot of effort into it. I love ginger! I will certainly try this sometime!

  • OMG THIS IS SOOO GOOD! i made one today.

  • Maangchi, do we have to use a food proccesser?

  • @KarinElegance no, you don't have to. Knead it by hand if you don't have a food processor. Check my recipe on my website.

  • Thanks for the answer! :D Oh and I like your hair cut.

  • Looks great! Just a question: could you use a rice flour instead of normal flour? I can't have anything with gluten!

  • What kind of oil did you use? I love the bows its really cool.

  • @GenjitsuSama Wesson 100 percent vegetable oil

  • Maangchi, how long can you keep these biscuits for?

Don't know why but I get excited and happy when I watch your videos. ^_^

  • we missed you maangchi :)

  • excellent video :).

  • looks very delecious and talk about tedious cutting and folding all the ribbons but it pays off at the end thx fur the upload!!

  • i think i saw this being made in a korean historical drama called Yi San. The only difference was that it was green colored

  • yay love it ! : D

you should learn us more koreans words :D

  • Dear Maangchi, I don't think that this is authentically Korean because I see a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese people make this as well with almost exactly the same recipe. I went to China and I found a stall that prepared this. Also on my visit to Vietnam I saw the exact same thing too. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that just like the egg roll many Asian cultures have their way of making things such as this cookie. =)

  • i just made this and it's so yummy! but can you please tell me how long will it stay crunchy? thank you very much! Merry Christmas Maangchi! God bless!

  • ㅋㅋㅋ 아이고 is my favorite word x]

  • So yummy looking!

  • AIGO! I WANT SOME! ;)

  • how to make the pomegrenate tea?

  • These cookies remind me the traditional Chinese snack we eat for celebrating the luna new year. But in chinese version, it is salty, and we don't put any giner juice in the dough.

I will definitely try this recipes becoz it looks really crispy & delicious!! :D

  • yummy stuff

  • this recipe is very much like the traditional italian cookies my grandmother makes for the holidays! instead of ginger, the italian version uses anise flavoring, or almond extract. try that sometime, if youd like. they arent too sweet, and thats what i like about them. thanks for this video! you look so cute with your arm warmers on, btw. :>

  • those cookies that your grandma makes, what are they called?!?! i have been looking for a recipe for those for FOREVER and this is as close as i've found.

  • oh my goodness, these look amazing!!!

  • what is that at the end when you're drinking that liquid from the cup? it looks good.

  • @artyimages It's homemade pomegranate tea.

  • Aigo !! looks Delicious ! You are so talented ! Thanks for the Recipe and I Love Your Ginger grater tool !

  • Can we use any juice with the dough if we want a different flavor? Like lemon or lime juice? Ginger isn't very common here so that's why I asked.

  • i don't see why you couldn't. lime juice cookies!!!! mmmmmmm :E

  • aigo....i want to try tis cookie in tis coming weekend....

btw...thanks maangchi for providing us a lots of great korean food recipes....

  • Korean's are amazing and wonderful people :)

    Nice video's ;)

  • Ok I'm seriously craving to try those now haha.

  • I LOVE IT can you please make more videos more often? :)

  • just a little tip:

you can us a pizza cutter to make ur cuts easier and faster...I always use it when I'm making homemade noodles and it works like a charm ^^

  • They are so delicate and pretty! I love the cutting and folding technique, wonderful!

  • Looks like a lot of work, but the ribbons do look nice.

I'd love to see people like you and VahChef have some shows on Food Network.

Unfortunately too much of that channel is about another meat loaf recipe, cakes you can't even eat, or if you've ever seen Sandra Lee, a woman who doesn't really make anything at all except an alcoholic drink for every meal of the day lol.

I appreciate your videos and your recipes. Thank you for sharing :)

  • So true!

Rarely do they show any new asian food(: !

Usually it's only American, or traditional Southern food!

xD Lol at Sandra Lee, which is true! (: ! but I love her a lot xD!

    Goo MAANGCHI! \

By the way Maangchi, I love your shirt! (: !

  • HAH! That made me laugh pretty hard, must be the truthiness of the statement... -- Maangchi, you did your thing, girl! - As soon as I get my hands on some ginger, I'd love to try this!

  • left over edgy parts go back to your house!! lol

  • im not a big fan of ginger ; but it seems like it taste good

  • WOW Maangchi, you must have a ton of patience to meausre, cut and twist all of those cookies!! They look so delicious! If the box of cookies isn't spoken for..i know someone who might like it *cough* *cough* haha i love your videos! they mkae my day, keep them coming!

  • Pizza cutter would be faster. love your videos. Peace out!

  • I was thinking the same. A long ruler and a Pizza Cutter would make this stage go so quickly and probably more accurate.
