  • It wouldn't matter if you were from Mars. Learn the language. Foglaim Gaeilge!

  • I'm half puerto rican, 1/4 irish, and 1/4 cherokee...im already fluent in spanish but i think it would be pretty rad to go to Ireland and learn the language of my grandfather, who moved here from Cork...kudos for deciding to keep ur heritage, no matter if you're mixed or not.

  • Patrick-

    Buena suerte,

    K.

  • I am studying Gaeilge in college, I love the language so much, its really poetic and beautiful. You def should learn it, there are plenty of ways to learn over the Internet etc, but definately try itll be worth it!! :P

    maith thú, a Phádraig!

  • dont be silly...ye cant LOOK irish lolzz

  • oh yes you can :) if u live in ireland long enough like me all my life u can tell who's irish and not irish :) seroiusly

  • no u cant lol duh duhhh im irish..born n raised..100% likeeee...ye cant tell

  • hey patrick. its funny. my dad is irish and my mother is puerto rican. i moved to ireland over the summer and its good craic. gotta come by bro. keep up with learning irish, i could say arent we all? slan go foill

  • Hey Patrick, I just wanted to send you my personal encouragement (you've been getting quite a lot! haha) with learning Irish. I'm in the same boat as you, and I know it's not the easiest language to learn, so keep at it and good luck! xx

  • Hola!! Me he fijado en que hablas español y por eso espero que tengas suerte con aprender irlandés!! La lengua irlandés es muy bonita!! Buena suerte

  • I'm Irish a true blue Dubliner and and let me tell ya you'd have no problem passing for one of us.

Oh wait you are one of us, any way best of luck learning gaeilge....

I did'nt get very far dearthair ->(brother as gaeilge)

  • Dude u dont have to look like a leprechaun or have orange hair to be or look irish. Im half irish myself from Massachusetts (hooray for the depahted!) Just go for it. That whole looks thing is irrelevant.

  • im half irish, with a mix of mongolian, morrocan, chinese and caribbean. so i look all fucked up now.

  • Fair play bud! Its a fantastic language and it's nice to hear of people abroad learning it. Go n'éirigh an t-ádh leat leis! (Best of luck with it!)

  • Thanks so much for the positive comment! It's really encouraging :0)

  • You really should keep the Irish up, it needs as many speakers as it can get as it is in serious danger of dying out, although it is increasing outside of the traditional Irish speaking areas called the gaeltacht, but that is inspite of government efforts really, not because of them. Japanese must be very difficult but fun too, it should be very handy in years to come, I think it's great you show such an interest in languages, the world needs more language enthusiasts!

  • Sure you cant always tell by looking at someone if they're irish or not, we dont all have red hair and freckles lol.

  • woooo! Brooklyn! Reprazent! :P but on a more serious note, you may not necessarily look like a red-headed Irishman, yet have you ever thought you could be a "black irish"? It's an unclear term but traditionally meant as those who are of irish-descent but don't don what is considered typical of irish folk. You definitely look irish but with a spanish influence (I would have never thought Puerto Rican; your face looks more slender than the average Irish-American's male's face.) Oh well, peace!

  • You seem really in-touch with your "telling people apart" skills :0). I think it's a neat skill to have.

  • Good luck with learning it! I will say, its hard, and it bears no resemblance to any other languages out there - but thatll make it all the more impressive when you do it. ádh mór ort! (Good luck)

  • yes it does. it is a celtic language and shares similar roots to many western european languages.

  • Dá mbeadh tú ag teacht go hÉireann,

    (If you're coming to Ireland)

    tar go dtí an Gaeltacht

(Come to the Gaeltacht - an Irish-speaking area)

B'fheidir Connemara nó an Daingean, nó cheantar eile mar sin

(Connemara or an Daingean, or another area like that)...

    Stay away from Dublin!

  • I'm Irish. This is the worst country ever! why leave japan for this? Rain, Rain, Rain. The Irish language is dead anyway. We're forced to learn it in schools but it has no practical value. I'm going to tokyo myself next year(I Hope) It looks class! Anyhoo, Slan go foill mo chara.

  • That is typical ignorance, "the language is dead". It's pups like you who convince the rest of the populace that it actually is.

  • Pog mo Hon

  • *thóin plz :p

  • i am Irish and once you get the hang of it it is easy there is some useful videos out there and you should learn irish it's nice to know also you should go to ireland and hear people say it Slan leat! (good bye)

  • You do kind of look Irish, you look a bit like my brother. :P

  • You're lovely! I'm Irish too, but living in Australia. I want to learn Irish but I think it would sound silly coming from my Australian accent.

But who knows? I may take it up, too. :)

  • ESTAS SUPER GUAPO PAPI!!!!

  • 'boy for d love of god dnt start lernin irish ur blessed dat u dnt av 2 learn it stay wel clear its imposible '

  • u kinda can tell if someone is irish like i aint tryin to be bad out but i can tell when i see someone from poland russia or latvia there more tall and hard faced lookin maybe even slightly tanned

  • dont worry about looks; Sean O hAilpin (the captain of the hurling team for County Cork) is half Fiji and he's basically the hero of the irish speaking world. (type his name into YouTube search to see what i mean)

  • Learn WELSH

  • I am shocked about your superfical comment about looks! I am of mixed Maori / Irish background and am learning Irish. I met a Vietnamese woman who is married to an Irishman and speaks near fluent Irish. If you don't use it you'll be to blame when it is gone.

  • Leaneann do Aisling! Follow your dream!

  • Well you're obviously a linguist with all those languages and you'll pick it up no problem! Bain triail as, ní thógfaidh sé achar ar bith ort!

  • boy for d love of god dnt start lernin irish ur blessed dat u dnt av 2 learn it stay wel clear its imposible

  • Go for it man. Move to Ireland!

  • Hey Patrick! Don't worry about how Irish you look. The good thing is that by wanting to learn we are helping to keep it alive.

Take me, for example: I have no Irish ancestors, no Irish looks, and nobody to learn from... how about that?? hehehe...

  • Hi Patrick! I just wanna tell you, that you do not have to look Irish to learn Irish. I do believe your dad will be so proud of you, if you learn Irish. :-) Wish you good luck with it!

  • Ceart go leor! Is é mo bharúil nach raibh an nGaeilge ró-dheachair ag fhoghlaim. Tá bróid agam ag labhairt as Gaeilge ach go mífhortúnachníl mo Ghaeilge ró mhaith.

Very good! In my opinion, Irish isn't too difficult to learn. I'm proud to speak Irish but unfortunately my Irish isn't very good.

  • Try german again, it actually not that hard...

  • cool, i'm in japan too ^^ where exactly in japan are you?

  • cheers for the video response, don't forget to subscribe if you like my vids, ;) haha,

anyway, you're in Japan? that's great, that's a country i dream to visit one day though money issues mean that could well be a few years yet. But i'll get there one day i know i will.

Cheers again.... oh and you look more Irish than i do ;)
