  • We are thinking of adopting a Coonhound Treewalker from shelter, 1 yr & 7 mos, but we live in a townhouse, I read they are highly energetic, and are not happy with a neighborhood walk, should have a lot of ground, fenced in yard I also read they should not be walked without a leash to run in an open space bc they will run off to hunt and smell, etc. Please let me know about Blu, how much space you have for him, how old he is, etc., etc.-loved video, he is so cute.

  • @silentxnight Sorry I didn't reply quicker. Blu is 5 now and currently has a fenced in yard to run in and enjoys it, but while away at college he was fine in a little duplex and a visit once or twice a week to the dog park. His energy is up when you first get home, but he is a hound and enjoys sleeping and laying around a lot. I got him a remote control shock collar to train him to stay close, but it is best to keep him on a leash because he will run off.

  • @silentxnight

I had a treeing walker coonhound many years ago. It was a wonderful dog but a "runner" because he didn't get enough exercise. No fence was a match for him. I remember him trying to "save" my 3 year old daughter from her little rubber swimming pool because her screamings of joy made him think she was unsafe. He tried to pull her out by her hair. Here's remembering Hagen.

  • OMG my walkers get nuts after baths! they rub on everything to dry off

  • me and my eight walkers are in the new cabelas outdoor magazine becuz i am the virginia grand champion for feild trials and dog shows and night hunts

  • Nice Dog. Train her to use a towel on the floor to dry off, unless this is your brother's bed and this is an April Fools' Day joke.

  • You have a nice bed.

... And you're letting him roll his wet fur all over it! Oh nooooooo D:

  • Great video! My boy can be so silly like that too!

  • hahah I love how they look when their heads are on their sides and they're staring at you. Like they're about to do something crazy.

  • Walker is the dude in Kentucky that helped develop the breed.

  • Oh my goodness, this is just like my walker, Ellie. She is going throug her teenage years and booy she is a WILD CHILD right now..wouldn't trade her for the world!!!

  • that dog has probly never seen a coon.

  • @ccbiczo Sound logic.

  • @ccbiczo No, he has! He has been to Detroit.

  • Im on my third and only 1 of them would bark as a watch dog, otherwise they are fairly quiet dogs...not like the beagles

  • Wonderful video and great hound. Same as mine. My Boomhauer does crazy stuff on the bed too. Bunkybeaver -- search ytube. What a dog.

  • my walker jenna does the same stuff they are so funny to watch, they make great pets, never seen a mean one yet, they just like to lick you alot .

  • Why use a towel when you can use a nice bedspread to dry off!

  • Spitting image of my dog walker...

  • adorable

  • EXCELLENT !

  • aw so cute! i miss having a dog. and i'm jealous that my parents had the most beautiful coonhounds in the world and i wasn't born early enough to see them.

  • My uncle has like 12 hounds, I believe he said some of them are walkers.

  • My treeing walker is so much like yours, haha. The random, awkward poses and the staring at you, or just by you. They are so adorable, and have such a crazy streak, they are hilarious!

  • @whitestripesftw Mine too... they have a great personality.

  • my walker is the best!

    better than all yours!

number one chicken killer and consumer of double cheeseburgers!

    very nice =]

  • my walker hound dosent howl :( im a little disappointed but he does make all kinds of funny noised like this one does XD

  • i have a 9 month old walker thats wild as heck love her too death

  • ive got a walker hound too. he aint that active anymore though. hes goin on 5 and getn to be middle aged. i love him to death though. great dogs and they always seem to be one to want to just hang with ya

  • why are they called walkers??? Are they gaited???

  • I think they were bred with Chuck Norris' chest hair. But seriously folks, It's because the elderly sometimes cover their feet with tennis balls. Yeah, your guess is as good as mine.

After going to wikipedia I found they are named after Thomas Walker, the man who imported english foxhounds to Virginia in 1742. And I have no idea what gaited is, sorry.

  • lol Gaited is a word used to describe any breed of animal that has a naural way of walking. like an american saddlebred horse has a specific gait that it is born with.

  • @mmd83 can't this breed climb trees? i think that may be why. they walk up trees.

  • @cammarkgross Thomas Walker. Look it up.

  • @cammarkgross

Because a guy with the last name Walker came up with the breed.

  • @cammarkgross no the first person to breed with them was john walker and he used them as fox hounds

  • @cammarkgross I have Tennessee Walking Horses and Treeing Walker Coonhounds both. In coon hounds, the Walker part doesn't have anything to do with gait. They walk trot and run like any other dog.

  • @coonhoundcompanion Thanks. At First I thought they were called walkers because, there are gaited dog breeds, like the German Shepard, Lab, and Australian Shepard. Oh, Are your TWH's Flat shod??? I hope you don't use pads and chains...

  • if u keep coon hounds inside do they bark all the time at any little noise?

  • Not mine, but I'm sure you could find that's true with any breed of dog. The only difference is that hounds howl.

  • I have a Walker pup about 7months old now. I don't hunt her so you could say shes an inside dog (so she needs lots of play/exercise time since its a high energy breed). She only barks when shes excited, like most other dogs, its pretty cute.

  • @kOiFrosty I have a walker/beagle hound mix and she almost never barks. she may bark at our german shepherd once when they play, but other than that, she is a lazy and quiet dog. but such a sweetheart. :)

  • @kOiFrosty My Hound HATES the UPS and Fedex trucks. First time She did this I thought someone was trying to break in as She was howling and trying to get thru the screened window. Does anyone else have a problem with their Walker's destroying bedspreads, she's gone thru 2 in as many weeks. She's going on 6, so she's no puppy. She definitely knows it's wrong, she'll hide in the music room.

  • @kOiFrosty I have two, one rarely makes a peep, the other is baying loudly all day long...

  • @kOiFrosty My walker barks when there isn't even anything to bark about. -.-

  • I got a Treeing Walker Coonhound pup(Dixie) for my birthday from my dad. Shes 4 months old now She does this after a bath too, lol. You have a beautiful hound there by the way.

  • do yall still have the dog

  • Sure do.

  • THAT FUNNY.I LIKE THAT

  • My dog is always wired after his bath too, LOL!

  • Silly pup! I'll never know why dogs get so silly after a bath

  • omg,..that walker is beautifull!!! I love walkers,..take a look at my angel!!

  • i HAVE TWO, CHUCK AND WALLEY , THE OLDER ONE HAS THE MOST PERSONALITY, AND CAN HE BELLOW.

  • This is great, My Walker Maggie has that exact same clownish sense about her. She's just not all that coordinated (what with her long legs), so when she tries to play, it often leads to hilarious consequences.

  • aww thats one nutty dog i love it

  • I have a treeing walker coonhound and named it angel

  • me too! I named mine angel cause my lady and I are kinda poor,.we were lookin for doggs and found them all to be too expensive,.so we prayed for a dogg,.low and behold, the next week, we were driving thru a corn field,..and out pops angel in the middle of no-where, with no tags, starved, and had a bullet hole,..so it was definitly devine intervention,..so we named her our little Angel!!!

  • reminds me of my old beagle.

  • My walker hound acts the same way. Check her out. Her name is willow, she'll sing you a song!

  • yours must be younger than mine. i have one her name is dixie.walker houds are absolutely funny and a great indoor dog

  • He looks like my Jake!!! Walkers all seem to have that clown like mannerisim to them they are absolutely prescious!!!!

  • that is just like mine, i seriously think our dogs are twins.

  • Just got my second walker, they are great and my lab loves them too. Such clowns and loyal. scott in wisconsin

  • wow lol. i have a treeing wlaker coonhound and evertime after a bath she runs aroud the house and goes crazy!

  • i have walker hound she is 5 yr. old. her name is willow, (like a weeping willow) she never shuts up! whats your dogs name?

  • My moms guess for why my puppy always runs in circles on his bed after bath is to make up for standing in sa bathtub for like 5 minutes."maybe their legs fall asleep" quote my mama

  • so cute

  • why do they do that after bathing? Grovey would always get crazy like that and run all over the place!

    5-stars!

  • he is the cutest:)

  • My walker goes CRAZY when I give him a bath.

  • there's some dog butt on your pillows. just sayin

  • That may be so, but this is after his bath, so its clean dog butt:)

  • :o I didn't even think of that!

  • Dog butt is okay. We have a walker and there might be some residual butt on the pillows some time. A small price to pay for my most best friend.

  • Go find Miles!

  • I have a treeing walker too...she's in one of our vids...she's CRAZY! if you want to see her she's in summer the dog takes a bath

  • I have a treeing walker too...she's in one of our vids...she's CRAZY! if you want to see her she's in summer the dog takes a bath

  • Fox Hound, nice

  • Could be a twin of my William! Very cute !

  • Aww cute. Our treeing walker acts just like that!

  • he's like nope, I'll dry off on the bed.. :o)

  • What a handsome boy! My Dale would love him. They look just alike! Glad to know that Walkers are house pets too not just hunting machines!

  • I have two female treeing walker coonhounds and my smaller one looks just like your dog....I love to watch them. Thanks!

  • My husband and I always wash the bedding on the day we give Missy (our grande french fox hound) her bath, she insist on rolling on the bed like your baby. Silly puppies.
