The increase in defense spending under Reagan was in order to rebuild the military ignored since Vietnam. He knew that we could afford the buildup, the USSR could not. That spending won the Cold War.

Secondly, aside from the short period of time during Clinton...the US House and Senate have been controlled by the Democrats. US budgets, spending, and allocations are all set by the Legislature. The majority of money we owe the Chinese is a secured debt because China cannot afford to have the US go bankrupt....we are the ones importing.

Yes Reagan increased the deficit. He promised to lower taxes, and increase the spending in the military. He did both, however he had a democrat controled congress that was on a spending spree not seen until Obama. If you like facts then look up what increase in spending caused the ballooming of the deficit. It was domenstic wastful spending largely by the congress that has to approve all budgets.
