@RadioCarino That would be swell. There are 2 uploads of it here on YT but they are somewhat muddy, sound-wise. The composition is credited to "M. Bookman", but who knows? Maybe Williams wrote it and sold it off for quick cash. If he did it wasn't too bad a business move as, despite its quality, it flopped--didn't chart for shit.
As far as I'm concerned, Larry is as important as any of the greats of early rock. The proof is in the pudding. Shit, his hits were longer than his rap sheet. You better be good to accomplish that!
@tomthefunky Agreed. Larry was one absurdly underrated talent. He could write lyrics, music, play the piano, produce, engineer, perform live. . . Larry could do it all. And it is a damned shame that he could never overcome his personal demons. He died in 1980 from a gunshot wound to the head in his home in L.A.. The official police report said it was a suicide- friends and people close to him claimed differently, that it was payback for a debt he owed a drug dealer.
@rayjr62 Couldn't have said it better myself. And the fact Laura Nyro is in the R&R Hall of Fame but Larry isn't is proof of how stupid that whole organization is. As for his death, that's a tough one. Usually the cops are good at determining murder made to look like suicide. And I read somewhere drug dealers and gambling hoods rarely kill the guys who owe them money. It might be legit suicide brought on by possible cocaine psychosis. Who knows but it's a damn shame as you say.
@tomthefunky I think Larry's sordid past is the reason why. . . if you can believe that. . And if that is the reason, then the HOF is even more hypocritical than I ever imagined. There are drug addicts, alcoholics, convicted felons and other assorted low-lifes currently enshrined in the HOF.
BTW- I don't know if anyone ever made a movie about Larry's life. If not, then someone should. It would make one great biopic.
@rayjr62 No, I don't believe his past is the reason he's not in the hall. I actually do believe he'll eventually get in. But he'll probably only have a small segment devoted to him on the VH1 broadcast.
Yeah, you're right about a movie, and I got the perfect title: Bad Boy.
High School Dance which was written by Sonny Bono was a huge hit in Jamaica in the 50s.

This takes me back to my high school days. They just don't make R&R like they did in the fifties and sixties - THE REAL ROCK AND ROLL !!!

He should have made a tremendous amount of money in royalties from the Beatles covering so many of his songs. Was he cheated out?

The Beatles ripped off the riff for their 'Birthday' thingy. Slightly changed, this is far, far hipper.

I agree that Williams was a innovator in rock and roll. It is truly a crime he hasn't been given his due in the RR Hall of Fame.

Great talent, yet a very troubled man. Also a dear friend of Etta James.

Christine killed Arnie's boss to this song! She pushed her seat forward until his chest was crushed into her steering wheel!!
DRock6906 3 months ago
@DRock6906 I remember that scene. Arnie's boss was played by the late, great character actor Robert Prosky.
